We have been eating at Hong Kong 97 for years. The last three times we have eaten there, since the new owners took over, the food just hasn’t been as good. Tonight it was horrible. Teriyaki chicken was so thin and dry, over white rice that tasted so awful it was inedible.

New owner at this restaurant. The food is below average and some items taste terrible. The fried shrimp have that weird smell of really old fryer oil. Even the pot stickers are not good any more without the yummy sauce they used to have. The sauce now tastes watered down. We are looking for a new place to get good Chinese food.

I just found out yesterday that this location is under new management and the food has changed in the past few months. I used to love eating here, but instead of generous portions and huge chunks of chicken, my plate was 99% batter. Won’t be back.

This is our go to place when we visit home away from home. U can never go wrong here! Salt and pepper shrimp(peeled) is my absolute favorite!!! Hubby loves the orange chicken. The BBQ pork is so tender. We enjoy the soups they have to offer as well.

Delicious food and amazing service! A staple for American Chinese food. Huge tables for big groups, and fast service without the food suffering. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. Great place!

I used to frequent here for years and suddenly the food was very… Different. There are new waitresses and their service is horrible, they’re rude, and they don’t care. I ordered my favorite dish, the egg foo young, and when I got it it tasted stale and the sauce was WAY too salty. The hot & sour soup had absolutely no flavor. When I flagged down my waitress she was completely indifferent to it and wouldn’t take it off my bill or have the kitchen make a new one. When I saw the one waitress who has been there for years, she told me that this location is under new management! What a shame. I miss the old Hk97. I have to find a new place for Chinese food now.

No Just NO! Utterly horrid food and service. These 4 star reviews must be people under the influence from the bar next door or fake. I just ordered take out and was hopeful because of the reviews. Egg fu young and shrimp fried rice. Got home and the sauce of the egg fu young was spilled all over the bag. It was in a styrofoam container that just has a lid and not sealed. Why would you use that for a dish that has sauce that will spill? I called to let them know… The response «What do you want me to do?» I said nothing and hung up. The egg fu young was gross and sour, I couldn’t even stomach it. The fried rice is ok. Stay away from this place. Nasty food and nasty owners. I wish Unilocal would add –5 star reviews for places like this.

This is your standard Americanized(aka white washed) Chinese food joint… Vegans! They do not cook their rice or noodles in any sort of animal broths, they will omit fish sauce and scrambled egg as well — very accommodating. We ordered the Vegetable Lo Mein, which was absolutely delicious! Unfortunately, we took the risk of ordering the Braised Tofu, which was terrible. The tofu came in these giant flavorless chunks and were the consistency of scrambled egg whites. Very disappointing but we were able to salvage the dish by picking out the tofu and eating the cabbage, bok choy, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and mushrooms over rice. We sat in the bar, which was PACKED with patrons. The service was mediocre, the drinks were stiff, the atmosphere was hole in the wall/dive and the portions were RIDICULOUSLYENORMOUS!!! You most certainly get your monies worth(the Lo Mein was *at least* six servings), great amount of leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. I probably wouldn’t seek this location out on my own, however it was a nice visit with my Mom, Dad, Aunt and Uncle.

Been coming here for years and moved away from the area and came back and they have updated and moved a few things but the food and service is always great. Took my order to go and they boxed it up and had a more food then expected and great comments when we had everyone over. Really a great place with welcoming staff and would recommend this to anyone.

It’s a nice place, we’ve been here a couple of times. Our most recent visit I tried the sesame seed fried shrimp appetizer. It is very tasty — I think in addition to the seasonings, the shrimp are breaded a little thinner in this offering and I like that. I had the mongolian beef, lemon chicken and fried shrimp combo — yeah, more shrimp — which is how I came to know that I prefer the sesame seed version. The mongolian beef is tasty and lives up to it’s claim of being a spicey dish. While the heat was very present it wasn’t overwhelming. The hot and sour soup was better than average. They add some green onion at the end and the crunch and flavor come through for that extra little kick that made it stand out. The loss of the fourth star is due to the mostly lackluster lemon chicken. While the chicken itself was done well, the sauce was just sweet, not very lemony. I’ve had much better lemon chicken and would have appreciated something with more zing than what I got. Service is better than average and the seating was comfortable. It’s a good value for the money, which says a lot as I set that bar pretty high. It just felt like it was 3.49 vs. 3.51 stars. I’ll go again, and try something different the next time. I’d recommend it for good Chinese food.

As a Chinese Indonesian I’m always on the look out for great Chinese food. THIS place is it! Don’t order the meals, if you eat FAMILY style the portions are HUGE. We ordered the BBQ pork lo mein and had left overs for 3 meals, no joke. I’m not a big fan of the«americanized» chinese joints, but this restaurant is a home run, since visiting there for the first time a few weeks ago we have been there 3 times and each time we have ordered 3 dishes with TONS of leftovers.

After reading several Unilocal reviews my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. We weren’t disappointed. If you like huge portions and great prices this is the place for you. The food is good but not great, but they make up for it in serving sizes. Be prepared to have leftovers for lunch the next day! We both ordered dishes rated as hot and sadly there wasn’t any fire. That’s our only complaint.

Came here to meet and celebrate with a long lost friend of my husband’s and that’s probably the only reason I would ever come to this part of town. As expected the food was disgusting. Ordered chicken and broccoli with rice and pork and it was completely unflavorful, greasy and underwhelming. The only plus was that the staff was very friendly and accommodating but otherwise avoid this place.

This is some good Chinese food! They really pack the container full and they are reasonably priced. The meat in Mongolian beef and beef and brocoli are so tender. The Vegetable fried rice is so flavorful.

Great service at a great price. Went out with my daughter for a late night meal and was pleasantly surprised by the portions and the friendly staff.

As a Thai fan I’d pretty much given up on chinese cuisine. At the recommendation of a friend I stopped in at HK97. After about a half dozen visits I’m a fan. The service has always been very friendly and attentive. The food has yet to let me down. I fact my guests an I have found it very good and extremely generous. I don’t enjoy the sweeter foods so I can’t comment on those. But the soups, vegetables, and proteins have always been prepared very well. The pot stickers are among the best I’ve ever had. I really like this place and will never hesitate to bring friends. As I read a few of the prior reviews I’m reminded of a familiar feeling: when I read a review that slams one place while promoting another I find that reviewer to be less than credible and shameless making me suspect that the place they promoted is behind the review. Or… Maybe it’s merely a reviewer who is attention starved and having an Andy Warhol moment. Who knows. I highly recommend HK97!!!

The place looks great with the new remodel and they even have a new menu. Food is still delicious and cheap.

I have experienced better. The only good thing was I split an entrée and still had leftovers(although I couldn’t bring myself to eat them the next day). The sweet and sour chicken was good, but the chow mien was pretty bad and too salty for me. It would’ve been nice with rice, but you can’t beat the price. I’d say take it to go though. The waitress wasn’t very friendly and tried to keep rushing us to order. Not the friendliest service. Everyone in the lounge that’s connected to the restaurant was nice. We just sat and played video poker which was fun. The lady next to us won $ 500 with only putting in $ 20.

Met my girlfriend for a little dinner. NONONONOTLITTLE, our dinners were massive. My # 3(Pork Fried Rice, Fried Shrimp & Pork Chow Mein) was a little too salty. I’m going to enjoy my leftover for lunch tomorrow. :)
