Bill was absolutely splendid. He had great knowledge of the bikes my husband and I were looking for. Also he gave us a bit of a price cut for buying two bikes. So thankful that my husband researched and we decided to come here!

Bill the proprietor is super friendly helpful and knowledgeable. I told him what type of riding Id be doing and he suggested what turned out to be the perfect bike for me.
Since then hes helped with adjustments and tips free of charge. He welcomes me and my wife by name when we come in. I highly recommend his shop.

I bought my wife and I new bikes here last year. The owner is a real pro, not some kid who works there because they like riding or are looking for a discount. The bikes he selected are great and I have actually become a bike commuter and love my bike. I dropped in today to get a mirror and he set me up for twelve dollars. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and is not trying to kill you with unnecessary crap. I would highly recommend that people who value service and quality check this place out

Small shop with a genuinely nice owner. I’m pretty sure he does all the repairs himself. We took my husbands bike, after being shipped from Georgia, in for a back tire and break issue. It took the owner just a few days and only $ 65! We’ve been here before for my bike, but this will be our family shop from now on.

Awesome place, I would suggest fixing the store hours sign though. I waited for 20 minutes for the place to open before checking on here for there hours. Sign on the building says 10am. Partially my bad but come on. Open when your sign says you’re going to. If not then just don’t post your hours.

Visited the Bike Gallery for their annual sale and was ready to purchase a mid-​range bike. I received lukewarm, novice answers to my questions. However, the people who assisted me when I went back were very helpful. Anyway, someone recommended that I try Hollywood Cycling across the street.
The owner was extremely personable. He provided patient, detailed answers to my questions. Moreover, he offered a hands on demonstration on how to change a tire and make basic adjustments. His prices for bikes (especially high-​end) and accessories seem lower than those at other shops. When I was there, a number of customers who seemed to know him by name stopped-​in; so he seems to have a loyal customer base. After one visit, I quickly concurred that this could be the best bike shop in Portland.

Awsome place to buy a bike. Large selection for such a small place. Owner is more than helpful. He let me make payments on the bike that I wanted and held it til I paid it off. I would suggest to anyone to take a look in this shop.

My bike is my car, pretty much worn the mountain bike treads down to seeing the inner tube.
Easy guy to talk to, talked about what new tires would be best for me. The tires weren’t in stock, but called and put an order in for them. New tires on, good price, moves like butta. Very Happy :)

Nice owner, incredibly good prices for a small shop, good service. Wish I knew about this place before I bought my bike! I have bought various accessories here and always been satisfied.

I feel silly admitting this, but I got really stressed out when I started looking for a bike for my birthday last week. I moved here three months ago from a city that had 1 bike shop, and I’d only ever gotten a bike from Toys ‘R Us. I never needed one for a daily commute, only occasional leisure, so a much deeper search freaked me out, especially at all the bigger stores with massive price tags and tons of people. Since having just moved here, I was on a budget. My husband and I went to 5 other places before we noticed this one across the street from the last big stop that disappointed us. We decided to swing by on a whim and I’m so glad we did. Bill was so kind and helped me no matter how silly the question I had. He held several bikes up for me so I could climb on them and test the height and comfort. He gave me a fantastic deal on a bike within our budget, a Norco Monterey. Bill gave me a discount on a U lock with the bike. I also purchased fenders, and he had them installed and ready the next day (we bought the bike right before he closed, thus why it wasn’t same day).
I don’t care how far I live from this place, I will come here for all my bike needs.

I recently started cycling for more than just my daily commute, and realized I really needed a new bike. So I saved and researched for a couple of months and heard about Bill’s shop just as I was getting ready to buy. I walked into hiss store and was floored by the prices. I got a brand new carbon fuji for $ 400 less than the next best place. He was great with helping me fit the bike correctly and have me a deal on some accessories ($ 12 carbon bottle cage) I couldn’t have ben happier with the service and will vouch for this shop to anyone. Other stores talked down to me like a hipster who had never had gears on a bike before, Bill talked with me about what I needed then picked the perfect one off of his rack. Too bad I don’t have 6 stars to give.

These guys are incredibly helpful here. I enjoy the kind and sincere service I get every time I walk through the door. I have had a few problems with the bike I’ve purchased from here, but they have all been fixed quickly and at a low cost! As a future college student, I’m trying to pick up things I need for school, and a good/​cheap/​reliable bike is what I think I’ve found here.

I spent a very pleasant 20 minutes talking with Bill, the owner, about what I was looking for in a bicycle. He pulled one off the floor and it fit me like a glove. So far, no other bike shop in town has come close to that level of service. The polar opposite of the big bike shop hustle.

Love, love, love my new bike from Hollywood Cycling. I must agree with all of the other Unilocalers… this place is awesome. For full disclosure, my hubs work with the owner’s wife and she’s been encouraging him to go there for awhile. More disclosure: I don’t know jack about bikes and don’t even remember the last time I saddled up on one.
We are the proud owners of two Norco hybrids. Bill set us out on a test run to make sure they were the perfect fit. I was apprehensive about the bike he recommended (like I know what’s up with bikes) but after test driving both bikes… he was right! For the past two days we’ve been biking all over the city and absolutely thrilled with our bikes. Our bikes ain’t fancy, but hey, we’re noobs! When we upgrade, we’ll go back. We just might be ready for the STP next summer. Bah haha.

My wife and I just recently moved to Portland. Since it’s such a big cycling city, I wanted to join the fun and get bike. However, I hadn’t ridden a bike in 11 years, and was a bit apprehensive about stepping in to a bike shop in a city with so many avid cyclists.
In short, Bill (the owner) was wonderful, and got me on the perfect bike to get me back in the saddle (a Norco Yorkville). The price was right, and he helped me out with a few accessories too. Excellent experience, and I definitely plan on going back for the rest of my cycling needs.

After riding around town for 3 months on a 45 lb. vintage schwinn, I had my fill. I’m not a bike expert or fanatic, but I do appreciate having a good product that is well suited for my needs. Too much for a mindless cheap purchase, but not enough to drop a grand or more on a bike.
After visiting a bunch of shops, obsessively researching brands within my means, and reading online reviews, I made the journey up to that tiny little shop on NE Sandy, across the street from the ever overpriced and disappointing Bike Gallery… Hollywood Cycling.
It seems to be just the owner, Bill, a nice older fellow with lots of bike knowledge, and his mechanic. It is cramped, and crowded, but what a GEM! Bill’s prices are amazing because of his low overhead. Great brands like Fuji and SE, WAY under MSRP.
I wanted a certain model and color that he didn’t have in stock, and he order it for me, and had it buil up and ready for me in a week. AND even as a special order, I paid about $ 200 under msrp, and what other shops were consistently asking. I was able to get the dream bike, and not the «I guess I can settle for this» bike.
He also offers a free tune up and maintenance for a year. Accessories and gear also good prices.
I’m shocked by there being so few reviews… well kept secret I guess.

For the past year or so I’ve been a sometimes-​bike-​commuter. «Sometimes» because I’ve been riding my mother’s old bike which is too short and too. not my size. Due to a recent influx of cash (guess why this review follows that of the place where I got my tattoo done?) I decided to rectify the situation and find myself a new (to me) bike.
I tried one place and wandered around for about 15 minutes and didn’t have a single person even acknowledge my presence, so I left, whipped out my phone (thanks, Unilocal app!) and did a quick search for used bikes.
I ended up here after seeing glowing reviews and multiple comments about reasonable prices. I took a look at some of the bikes and found that the vast majority of what they sell is new, not used. I got nervous and started edging towards the door. until Bill pulled a bike down off a rack and said he could sell it to me in a different color — for $ 395. New bike? $ 395? He said he’d have to assemble it and asked if I could come back in an hour.
In that time, he built my bike and then had me test ride it before I committed to purchasing it. My beautiful, silver Fuji is now locked to my back deck and warming my heart! Bill and Lane were so friendly and helpful that I was blown away. These people really do want to get everyone on an affordable bike and spread the message of bike love! It was an absolutely lovely experience and I urge everyone (EVERYONE) to give their bike business to Hollywood Cycling.

I can’t quite figure out if I’ve just joined a cult or stepped into a fairy tale. Bill & Lane co-​own this tiny local bike shop & are so friendly you wonder if in fact cycling vampires do exist cuz these are some offers that no sane person could refuse. Bill works in front & Lane is the go-​to mechanic in the back – wait, maybe they’re superheroes & their mission is to make sure that everyone has a decent bike. They stock multiple different brands & levels of bikes for commuters to beginners to hard core road cyclists. They’re an authorized dealer for Fuji, Norco, & Kestrel & stock some cool used/​consignment bikes including a pretty sexy time trial bike. [rowr!]
More importantly, their philosophy could very well be «MSRP is a suggestion of a suggestion» cuz new bikes & equipment tend to go for 25−50% below MSRP. Did I mention that I rode out of there with a shiny new 2008 Kestrel Talon all carbon fiber road bike with Dura Ace components & Mavic wheels for $ 1695 instead of the stroke-​inducing $ 2700 – 3595 (depending on the different levels of Shimano components) MSRP? I also got a nice pair of used Speedplay Frog pedals for $ 25 (at least $ 105 new) & superlight carbon fiber bottle cages for $ 22 each (minimum price $ 40 – 50). Which reminds me, I need to bike back & pick up a Kryptonite Evolution U-​lock to protect my new baby cuz for a mere $ 27 (usually $ 40+ elsewhere) how could I say no?
So support that urban myth in the Hollywood district, the little local bike shop that could. You’ll find sweet knowledgeable people, amazing deals on quality goods, absolutely no cycling snobbery, & no pressure. And if they don’t have it, they’ll order it for you if their distributors can get it & it’ll be at the same below MSRP pricing as they offer on all their other gear. Once I’ve put some miles on my new ride I’ll do an update for the mechanical component of the shop (they include 1 year of adjustments for free instead of the usual 3 – 6 months & since they’re an authorized Kestrel dealer my frame is covered for lifetime) but for now Hollywood Cycling is «Woohoo! As good as it gets!» So go & check out this gem & you’ll realize there’s a lot of cubic zirconia out there. You know who I’m talking about.
