I am the pastor of the Tabernacle Seventh day Adventist Church. My transmission was giving me trouble, and Dru and his crew were very helpful in fixing the problem. They were very kind and generous and my car is running great.

Been working with Dru & Larry for years. Never a problem, they have always taken care of my needs.

Females beware: Don’t go to this mechanic if you are a woman.
I needed a new AC compressor for my 99 Volkswagen Beetle and brought it into this shop, I was referred to them by the Les Schwab a block away. I was emotional from my car needing expensive repairs because I had just visited a Volkswagon mechanic a week earlier. I was a little emotion at the extent of the damage and the mechanic at this shop, Dru, questioned whether it was that time of the month for me. I couldn’t believe he made such a personal comment… It gets much worse.
That night, he texted me multiple times asking to take me shooting, ask me out to lunch, and even tried to come over to my house even though I told him repeatedly that I had a boyfriend. I kept refusing him and he kept texting me in a rudely forward manner so I had to stop responding altogether as to not piss off the person who was repairing my car.
The next day, he texted again asking me what I was doing and where I worked, repeatedly asking to be more specific about the location, or else he couldn’t find me at work to «give me a hug.» Creepy.
It continued to happen the day after that, and the day after. The next day he texted me again saying my car would be ready tomorrow, and then proceeded to try to flirt and be creepy as usual. The next day he texted me from a new number, saying the car would be ready. I was sure to bring my boyfriend to pick up the car and there were no issues during our visit so I hoped he took a hint and would just stop texting me now. I just wanted to get my car and never have to deal with him again.
Later that night, he texted me to come have a drink with him at the shop where he works/​lives. Also that night, the second number that texted me to tell me the car was ready started texting me as well, saying «send me pics, my boy told me you were thick.» I asked Dru whether he was texting me on two numbers and he let me know that his friend was texting me from another phone and wanted to know if I had sent him photos or not. He also said «you can be honest, you’re a stripper» and other horrible unsolicited comments.
I never gave Dru the SLIGHTEST indication of ANY interest in any of our interactions yet he sent me more than a hundred unwanted texts total, sometimes sending 20 texts in a row with no response. All this is EXTREMELY unprofessional to say the least, and left me with a really bad, creepy feeling. You said I should write a Unilocal review Dru, so here it is.

Really nice owner Dru got my car in for a quick, same day synthetic oil change… and under the quoted price which was very reasonable. I’ll be back when the car inevitably needs work. Love the dog too! :)

I found Hendrix on a Friday afternoon when every other shop nearby told me I’d have to wait until Monday for a new alternator. Service was fast, the guys I talked to were friendly and helpful, and I got a new customer discount on the work. I’m not a mechanic, so I can’t vouch for the quality of the repairs, but after looking up comparable costs online I believe the price they charged was fair. I’ve had bad experiences with car repair places in NW Portland before, so this was a pleasant surprise. Next time I need service done they’ll be the first place I call.

First of all, let me say that I’ve been to a lot of mechanics in my life. These guys are hands-​down the best I’ve ever been to. Dru and Larry Hendrix are both amazingly helpful. This place is reasonably priced and these guys are very trustworthy. There explain what’s going on with your car very clearly, what needs to be done and they do it in a timely fashion. I wish all mechanics were like this, if I could give them six stars I would!

Friday August 28 I was driving thru Portland, on my way home to Auburn, WA. On I-​405 my car started to overheat and lose power. Hendrix Motor Company was the closest repair place I could find, and I’m glad I did! I dropped my car off at 10am. The mechanic on duty grabbed my info and said he’d begin diagnostics and someone from the office would call with info and an estimate. Within 30 – 40 minutes they called and I needed a serpentine belt and a water pump. I was concerned about the work being done in 1 day (this was Friday after all). They told me they’d try and if I hadn’t heard from them by 3pm to call them. I wandered around the Pearl district and return to their shop around 1:45. They told me my car would be done in about 20 minutes, provided no other problems became apparent. At a little after 2pm I was on my way home.
I can’t thank Hendrix Motor Company enough! A mere 4 hours after an emergency stop in their shop, my car was diagnosed, parts procured, repairs completed, paperwork done and I was on my way home. I’ve relayed the word to my many friends in PDX, you have any issues with your car Hendrix is the place to take it.

I was traveling & lost my parking permit in the power window track. Dru was nice, got me right in, charged a fair price. Window works great & I got my parking permit back! The atmosphere at the shop is not super professional — the dog Max greeted me at the door. But they delivered on the work.

These guys rule! Quickly helped me get to the bottom of a pesky problem with my Bronco and the bill was deeply discounted. Thanks!

My RV needed some emergency work to deal with a steady oil leak. It was difficult to locate a shop that would actually work on an RV Chassis. I read around the reviews and decided to land on Hendrix Motor Company.
Dru had me in right away and the shop had plenty of space and a good sized yard to work on my 26′ machine.
Not only did they have my repair done in both reasonable time and a reasonable price, the mechanic also caught some other impending problems for which I am glad!
I would recommend Hendrix for RV chassis work and other vehicle maintenance.

I used Hendrix Motors two months ago when my clutch on my car went out. It was easy to drop my car off and they had it repaired in 3 days. Plus I was able to get a discount at the car rental agency by using their shop as a reference so I was able to go on my vacation to the coast without interruption.

The alternator in my truck died and a friend recommended Hendrix. I got the truck over there in the morning and he was able to fix it quickly and reasonably priced. I work downtown and the shuttle option worked out great.

Had a friend get their car towed here. The man quoted $ 800 for something that should only cost $ 100. Then when they said they wanted to go elsewhere, they held their car until they payed $ 100 for the quote! Awful customer service, if I could give no stars I would!

I just recently had the misfortune of having my car break down while downtown and had to have my vehicle towed without having a clue who did solid and reputable work.
I had a great experience with Dru and the crew, my vehicle was even completed a day before the estimated time of completion. They were honest, only recommended the work that actually needed to be done, and so far everything is in great working order.
Great family-​run business that has been passed down from father to son over the course of 40 years. I will be taking my vehicles here for as long as I live in the Portland area.
And to top it all off, they have the fantastic monster of a dog that you see in the above photo. Max is the highlight of any trip here.

Wow. The reviews here are quite the opposite of our experience with this company.
Due to the great reviews on Unilocal,we called in advance to get an inspection/​quote on a decent car repair. We scheduled the appointment, dropped the car off early and was given an estimated time well within our window of needing to pick the car up for work.
A few hours later, and about a half hour AFTER they said they were going to call us with an estimate/​that the car was ready, WE CALLED THEM. We got shuffled through a few different people and got a call back from the person that was supposedly doing the inspection/​quote. He rushed through information on the call and wasn’t helpful with providing details of what we needed to get fixed. He said the actual price-​quote would have to come from someone else who wasn’t there at the moment. (They then backed out of telling us they could come pick us up to get back to our car, and at this point we barely had enough time to get the bus and get our car for work. We gave ourselves a large window of time to avoid this scenario so this was frustrating.) When picking up the keys we were told they’d call us later that day with a quote.
After a few days of trying to call them/​leaving voicemails, we finally heard back from them. The person on the other end of the phone was rushed and very brash. They spoke over our heads and we could barely understand what they were saying, nor were they willing to explain in a way we understood. We were given a pricey estimate but no real quote and was told to come back in again and pay them $ 95/​hour to do ANOTHER inspection. When asked if there was a price range we could expect for the repair, (esp. if we were going to pay them hundreds of dollars just for a quote), they dodged an answer because it could be hundreds of dollars or even thousands of dollars. (We were even asked if we wanted to keep the car at all or just get rid of it. This is a dumb and slightly offensive question to ask if we’re trying to bring our car to you to get FIXED!)
Luckily a friend overheard the last phone call and we were referred to a wonderful mechanic that we’ve used multiple times already, so I guess one good thing did come out of this annoying experience.

Larry Cusack & Larry Downard have been having our cars repaired by Hendrix Motors — Dru and his crew — since the year 2000. We have always been pleased with the work done, no problems. Drew and his crew are pleasant to work with. When dropping our vehicle off for service a ride is always offered. Having service available in our inner city neighborhood is of «tremendous value.» We’ve taken both domestic and foreign cars to Hendrix for service and repairs.

Im new to Portland and am beginning to think everybody here is incredibly sweet! Got my oil changed and it was quick and no nonsense. Slightly pricier than what I’m used to in California but I think it’s worth it and will be back!

Was in town for work from Seattle and my suspension basically collapsed. I was hoping the pump or air bags hadn’t gone out which could’ve knocked me down $ 2−3k bit that’s the price you pay for driving a Mercedes-​Benz. Dru was able to get me in that morning at 11am, by 1pm they had diagnosed and she was ready to go. They found some connection issues near the pump, repaired it and just charged me a fare labor price. Thanks guys.
Also, beware of Max the gladiator bull mastiff. Looks intimidating but is such a cool dog. Loves to pose for pictures.

My former auto mechanic moved from my area a year and a half ago, and since then, I have had a difficult time finding a good replacement. I took my car to Dru and his team on a friend’s recommendation, and I am happy that I did. I had a tricky starting issue and the guys troubleshot the problem, got it done in a timely manner at below the price they originally quoted.
Great job guys! I highly recommend them.
