Fourteen30 Contemporary is a Portland, Oregon-​based gallery. Now in its third year of programming, Fourteen30 has presented over 25 exhibitions of emerging and new generation artists from around the world.

History

Established in 2008.

On September 26, 2008, Fourteen30 Contemporary opened the doors of its namesake address location at 1430 SE 3rd Avenue. A few years later, Fourteen30 Contemporary nestled into its current space in Portland’s Goose Hollow neighborhood at 1501 SW Market, and in September 2014 the gallery celebrates six years of operation.

Fourteen30 Contemporary is a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), the New York based not-​for-​profit collective of professionals working within contemporary art. he gallery has presented over 40 exhibitions, which have been reviewed in numerous publications including Frieze, Art Papers, Art in America,

Artforum, The Oregonian, Art​net​.com, and Art LTD.

I wish I could recommend this gallery. I wish I could recommend almost any gallery in Portland Oregon. Unfortunately, Portland is not an arts center. It has an arts community but it’s regional and undeveloped. The gallery owner is not educated nor sophisticated in her art knowledge, nor is her program at all cohesive or relevant. Mostly, she taps from friends, collegues, and easy prey.

Fourteen30 is the project of a gallerist who was formerly director at another Portland blue chip gallery.
Her focus in this pristine white and friendly gallery is to find early to early-​mid career artists about to pop and give them their first solo shows.
She has a very sharp eye for very modern, sometimes poppy, and almost always thought-​driven artists. If you find something that draws your attention there, you owe yourself the time to stop by when it isn’t busy for Jeanine’s articulate narrative about the work. Many of the artists are based in LA.
She is also one of the few local galleries showing video art regularly. Sculpture, hard for commercial galleries, is often on the show menu. She is one of the few local galleries pursuing collectors outside Portland.
The usually Friday evening openings are lively and on an independent schedule from First Friday.
Solid and smart.
