History

Established in 2003.

Equilibria was created in January of 2003 when the owner, Jennifer Bode, decided to expand her private massage therapy practice. By bringing in several other LMTs to join the business, she was able to offer appointments 7 days a week along with expanded business hours.

Then in 2010, Jen moved the practice from NW 23rd to NW 20th, where she could offer private parking, and a beautiful single studio nestled in a warm historic home. Now more peaceful, and still just as convenient.

A year after the move, Jen would bring a close to her personal practice, move to a tropical island, and pass the torch to one of her passionate therapists, Kamila Loupal.

And that brings us up to date! We look forward, continuing to grow, supporting those in and around the Portland area in their health and wellness.

I had been told about Kamila from a friend, who assured me that she was the absolute best. So when I made a trip to Portland, I was lucky enough to find out for myself that she is indeed remarkable.
I’ve never had a massage therapist who seemed to innately understand what my body needed. I play a very physical sport and she honed right into the areas that needed attention, working with my body to release tension, stretch tight muscles and overall leave me feeling totally refreshed and relaxed.
Worth the visit from Denver!

Purchased a Massage for my wife to use during our New Years visit to Portland. When researching and deciding where to go it got very confusing as there are so many options in Portland. I chose Equilibria because it was close to our hotel and reviews were quite favourable. Best choice I could have made, Kamila was very friendly and my wife left her office relaxed and ready for the day… there was also some minor confusion with the GC I had purchased for my wife and Kamila was able to fix it up effortlessly and with no stress on our part. Would recommend Equilibria and Kamila to any friend, family, relative any day.

I went to see Kamila after getting a gift certificate for the massage from my fiancée. I have only had a couple full body massages in the past, but this was the best. Kamila has a very comforting presence and is responsive to signals to push hard or go easy. The work on my IT band and feet was great and I left wondering why I hadn’t done this earlier. Another plus is that Kamila has very strong hands and can apply deep pressure.

I have had a lot of massage, and Kamila at Equilibira really stands out. Her technique felt like stretching and lengthening my muscles and she worked with my breathing to work out the tightness. She moved so much stuck energy I was dizzy after my treatment! Kamila has such big, warm, solid energy, and her space is so soothingly beautiful. I highly recommend her for both relaxation and therapy!

If you’re fortunate enough to receive a massage from Kamila, you will experience perfection. You may not know what type of massage you need or what part of your body needs attention. No worries, Kamila will know. And the effects are noticeable — during your massage and days after. I leave each time with a renewed sense of centerness and calm. I’ve had appointments with Jennifer for the past few weeks related to back issues and she’s almost fixed me! I really couldn’t be happier with her treatments. In addition to giving a wonderful therapeutic massage– this time it isn’t about relaxation– she also clearly knows her stuff! She’s given me great advice related to stretching and which areas of my body are feeling the brunt of the problem. I’ll definitely be back :). Also, Equilibria itself is so beautiful and homey– I love coming in for appointments.

I had my first massage with Jennifer last weekend and I am still raving about it. In all the years that I have been getting massages, this has got to be the best one. The whole environment was very soothing and inviting. I conveyed a few details about an injury that I have been rehabbing and Jennifer used gentle but firm pressure around the injured area of my back. She didn’t rush her work on any areas of my body and was very thourough and thoughtful. I can see why people return to Equilibria often. I will definitely go back — what a treat to find someone so nice and engaged in her work as Jennifer.

I’ve been a client at Equilibria for close to 10 years. And I’ve had a lot of massages in those years. I’ve tried out other therapists from time to time, but I always come back to the excellent care at Equilibria. Kamila and Jen give excellent massages. Period.
For me, Equilibria is the best of massage all in one beautiful package.
Their space is accessible, clean, peaceful and relaxing. Their vibe is friendly, caring and health conscious. Their website is beautiful, informative and it’s easy to schedule on line.
Over the years I’ve arrived at their office needing everything from relief from stress and tension, help rehabbing a sports injury, pampering before my wedding and during pregnancy, and most recently comfort and healing while going through treatment for cancer. In each situation, Kamila and Jen were able to address my needs and send me on my way feeling calm, relaxed and energized. What more could you want?

I don’t know exactly what it is I really like. I think it’s trigger point, but on the receiving end of massages I’m not really sure. I should probably ask.
In any case, I was just looking for someone in the neighborhood for an appointment on short notice. I got a huge cramp when I was doing pull-​ups and needed some help.
What I found was Jen at Equilibria, and it was much luckier than just finding an open appointment. I got exactly the kind of massage I like, AND I feel a whole lot better. And, honestly, I’m a knotty mess.
I found just what I like, in my neighborhood. I think I’d travel for this.

We had a couple massage at Equilibria, a friend of my girlfriend had been here for a prenatal massage and she said it was amazing and the lady who did the massage was caring and skillful, so and she recommended this place for us to try it.
Considering mine and my girlfriend’s crazy and hectic schedules and the popularity of this place, I thought it would have to take several days before we got a time scheduled. Surprisingly, wow, we got in very fast.
This was most effective real DEEP tissue massage experienced, since I have moved to Oregon. I had really sore shoulders and neck. Usually you do feel much better while having the massage, right?
But then the effect wears off, already the day after, with the stress and all, but I was amazed this time the benefits lasted for quite few days. The soreness gone. I can tell it was because the work was done professionally and had a great therapeutic lasting effect.
We also like the environment here and the friendly way we were greeted and treated. I will definitely come back

I had just moved to Portland 3 weeks ago & spent the last 3 of those days completely bedridden due to the flu. I started feeling like a human again last night & subsequently started to feel all the aches & pains that had been accumulating. Thanks to Unilocal I found Equilibria which is just a few blocks from where I’m staying. I luckily found an opening for today & made my way there. I was a little confused when I entered because there wasn’t a clear check-​in area so I just tried the door labeled «Equilibria Massage» & a befuddled woman gave me some intake forms. She later told me that I had actually scheduled my appointment for next Friday, but that they were able & happy to accommodate me today. What an idiot (me, not her)! Jen introduced herself to me & after spending some time discussing my problem areas, she got to work. I like very deep pressure & she was awesome. She worked through all of the areas I discussed & now my neck & shoulders are pain-​free. I cannot recommend her enough! They were so nice to accommodate someone who obviously doesn’t know how to use a very simple online booking system. And they had a $ 10 off your first massage coupon on Unilocal so score! I’ll definitely be back!

Had a massage for my Mother’s Day present with Kamila… honestly, it was one of the best things a mother can have. She’s magical, beautiful and truly knew knew what my body needed. I just left right now and I feel like I’m drifting on clouds. I have had many massages but I’ve never had one where I fell asleep so quickly. Ahhh.

The masseuses were kind and they asked questions before the massage.

Equilibria Massage is a convenient, friendly, and powerfully therapeutic massage studio. Kamila takes her work very seriously and is focused on providing her clients with only the best service.
The location near 23rd is extremely classy. Music selections are interesting without being «far-​out», the table and sheets are very cozy, and ambiance is well-​crafted. I highly recommend visiting for a massage. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to make it a regular appointment!

I was visiting Portland and decided to book a massage. After reading the stellar reviews about Kamila, I tried to book with her, but being Mother’s Day weekend, she was already booked solid. I decided to go ahead and book with someone else and was able to book an appointment with Lisa.
I had been experiencing tension in my neck and shoulders and after traveling and carrying luggage, etc, I was very ready for my massage. I have had many massages in my life and the massage I had with Lisa was one of the best I have ever had. She adjusted the pressure at the beginning of the massage to go deeper and she used a variety of massage techniques that allowed both relaxation and a loosening of tight muscles throughout. She used a heat pad and a hot cloth at different points and also did a bit of stretching of my neck and shoulder area. She found all the right spots and did some great massage work at the base of my neck/​head that not every masseuse does. She also played some lovely music that contributed to a wonderful experience. At the end of my massage I felt completely relaxed and very satisfied.
Lisa also helped me before I left with some directions and maps for the tourist activities I had planned for the rest of the day which was very nice!
If you’re looking for a great masseuse, I highly recommend Lisa!

Another business trip to Portland, another day in the life of Mister Sore Back guy. Stumbled across Equlibria (no pun intended) right here on Unilocal,and was fortunate enough to book online with very short notice — the booking system worked efficiently and without any hiccups. Found some easy parking right on the street out front. Valentine was a total pro, asked a lot of good questions, and then gave a remarkably healing massage — I swear I was at least an inch taller walking out of there. She intuitively honed in on my trouble spots (and some which I didn’t even know were a problem) and really worked on a deep level; an informed touch that was just the right degree of firmness. Topped off with some craniosacral work, plus some alignment tips which were valuable even for this sometimes-​yogi. Valentine is terrific at what she does; I would recommend her highly.
I used to come to Portland regularly — looks like that’s only going to be a handful of times this year, but I’ll try to get back to Equilibria when I’m in town.
So anybody have some good massage jokes? If my back were its own country, it would be ruled by Myofascists… nyuk nyuk (I’ll be here all week…)
Okay, so I don’t have anyplace to compare it to in Portland, but my experience at Equilibria ranked right up there with a couple of good studios where I’ve had excellent deep tissue work with tenured LMTs in CA and NY. One gets the sense that the folks at Equilibria are there to improve your life and they genuinely love what they do — all in a relaxed setting without any «spa business posturing». A great experience.

Simply put, Equilibria is amazing.
Their building is decorated in a welcoming, comforting manner — which is great as my girlfriend and I are relatively new to receiving professional massages. We felt at ease from the moment we opened the door.
Not even sure where to start with the massage… all I know is that we left with giant smiles on our faces. The care and treatment we received was unlike any other we have ever had. So much so, that we had to book another appointment before we even walked out.
Can’t wait for our next massage at Equilibria!

Imagine… if you could zero out, suspend time and surrender to nothingness. As Kamila’s hands danced on my back, I was trying my best to drop morsels of this experience into the music that was flowing, so that I could play it later and relive it (as I am right now, typing this).
It was not a regular Swedish massage. It was Kamila’s own intuitive movements consisting of cross-​terrain hops, feathertouch and sensual slides. She let her muse take over and wrote poetry on my back. It was a totally new experience for me. Talk about sensory input, damn. And all that in just half an hour.
Kamila is very talented in what she does, and if you want some deep work done, she is damn strong too: D
Highly recommended. Visit her and ask for her «Massage without a Name» for a massage without boundaries. You will melt in her hands.

So, I’ve been a little stressed… as you can see from my sorry attempt at sarcastic poetic humor. Luckily, Mr. Right thought so too, and sent me here for an afternoon of pampering.
Maybe the lavender scented massage oil greased this review — or maybe I’m still giddy that my crush would know EXACTLY what I needed (guys — take notes. Girls love massages like you love Bill Simmons, The Halo Series, and Pizza… COMBINED.)
But this was the most relaxing, most satisfying, and most effective massage that I have ever received. 4 days later and I’m still enjoying the results! The room was warm and comfortable, and I echo those exact sentiments for my therapist, Jen.
Although I didn’t dish out any moola of my own — I will certainly be making this a regular thing. (Really? Only $ 55 for 45 minutes of bliss?)
…And they do offer couples massages… maybe (if I could get up the guts to share my nearly 3-​year secret crush with him) I could pay Mr. Right back. without having to indulge him in a rousing game of Halo 3, while reading excerpts of The Sports Guy and feeding him pizza… cause that sounds about as good as my poem.
