Quick, friendly, and premium service. I’d trust DZ Alterations with anything! I just brought in a brand new $ 2,000 Burberry raincoat to have the sleeves shortened. I had taken in a suit and it was exceptionally altered to the fit so I came in with confidence but some hesitation because there was really one shot at this. DZ assured me to relax and she reminded me that she does high-​end clothing all the time. Wow! It turned out terrific with precise craftsmanship, quality, and care. And at a very reasonable price! I will take everything to DZ.

Yesterday I brought in the hood of a new weatherproof coat, hoping to get its faux fur trim removed. I’d kept the tags on the coat, knowing I’d return it if I couldn’t get this done. (The hood was detachable but not the fake fur sewn into it.) Today — 24 hours later — the job was done, perfectly, and I was charged very little for it.
While I was in the shop, I noticed that there were a lot of return customers. I will be one of them. And I will highly recommend this shop to everyone I know who needs tailoring done. Very professional and skilled, with reasonable rates. A real find!

I was referred to DZ DT Portland by a friend. I needed 3 pants tapered. I was in no rush so I told them when ever they are done is good for me. They got them done in three days. I’m sure if I wanted them done faster they would have been able to accommodate that. I’m very happy with the job they did. I’m very satisfied and I’ll return in the future to give them more business. Definitely get your clothing tailored here.

Was not that happy with results, besides that they stack the jeans altogether and mine stink from being kept in a pile with other people’s jeans. if you want rude service and your clothes piled up on top of other people’s jeans this is the place for you

This place is a gem! I only needed my jeans shortened, but service was fast, the jeans looked great, and the price was reasonable ($ 12). I would definitely take my clothes here again for minor adjustments and alterations.

I rarely feel compelled to write a review, but this place has made an impression on me.
Other alteration shops have rushed me in & out, and have handed me my clothes back in sloppy fashion. The ladies in D&Z made me feel welcomed. It also seemed like they had great, longstanding relationships with the customers in the shop.
I purchased two suits without buttons on the jackets. D&Z placed the buttons in a professional and workmanlike manner. Also, they were ready quickly and for a fair price. I feel very confident in recommending them and bringing my clothes there for future alterations.

I had a torn seam about an inch long in a pair of sweats. The clerk took them, I sat down for like 90 seconds, and she handed them back to me like new. What did I owe? «No charge. We fix.»
So the least I can do is share the great workmanship, and say that I’d have no hesitation getting anything altered there.
As for the value, I can’t beat free, but I of course can’t tell you how much pro Bono work they do as a rule. They’re worth checking out!

I’ve had many pairs of pants shortened and hemmed here. Easy alterations perhaps, but have always had friendly service and always done when they say. I’m happy to keep coming back.

I’m retracting my original review because they screwed me over. I asked them to patch a thin part of my jeans. I called them specifically and said I was going out of town the next day and asked if they could patch it by then. She seemed unconcerned and said it was fine. So I came right in and gave her the jeans. She said tomorrow at noon, I confirmed and she promised tomorrow at noon. I come in the next day at 1:30 PM on my way to the airport. They aren’t done and are just randomly thrown in a heap. No apology, no nothing. They tell me I can sit and wait, I tell them I don’t have time, they shrug. They completely screwed me over because I expected the jeans would be ready based on their repeated promises they would be ready. I am never, ever coming here again.

Inexpensive, quick and good quality. I’ve been twice for simple zipper replacements, and every time I was there to drop off my pants and pick them up, the place was teeming with customers.
I haven’t had anything major tailored here, but when I need something done, I’ll definitely trust the ladies of DZ with my apparel.

DZ Alterations was recommended by Nordstrom to alter a bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding. The dress had pearl beading on the bodice with a chiffon overlay on the skirt. I needed the top taken in and the length shortened.
I will now address the unfortunate events that followed:
First Visit (4 weeks before wedding): Woman tells me, «Yes, baby. We can do that.»
Second Visit (2 weeks before wedding): The dress was still too big and the overlay was too long and the satin layer underneath was so short you could see my entire shoe. The woman tells me they will fix it and give me a call.
Third Visit (1 week before wedding): No call, so i stop by to see if it’s ready (They lost my number). The dress was still too big on top and the underneath layer is now longer than the overlay. The woman says, «I am sick of working on this dress. Just take it. No charge. I am done with it.» (Now, taking this dress no charge was incredibly tempting. Save $ 87… Score!!! But the wedding was the next week and I really needed it fixed!) I told her that wasn’t really an option so she decided to fix it but would not shorten the underneath part of the dress because I had complained about it previously.
Fourth Visit (Ten hours before my flight for the wedding): She did an excellent job on the bodice but not so great on the skirt. It was uneven, too short and you could see one of my shoes.
The Final Straw (Two days before wedding): Unpack dress and about to steam it when I notice there is a stain across the entire waistline! I took it to a dry cleaner and they said it was grease from the sewing machine! Thankfully, they were able to get it out.

They do a pretty decent job for a very good price. I still go, they’re just not very friendly.

Being a short gal, I frequently have dresses and jeans that need to be altered. The last dress was a long dress made out of a chiffon material and they did a beautiful job. Jeans and pants always come out the perfect length.
Price of Service: ⁴⁄₅
This is the only alteration shop I’ve visited in Portland and it seems affordable to me. Jeans run about $ 10 and the chiffon dress was $ 35. Since I don’t have other stores for comparison, but I’ve read other Unilocal reviews saying there are more affordable shops, I’ll do 4 out of 5 stars, rather than 5 out of 5.

Of the 10 or so times I’ve dropped off jobs, all of them have been ready when originally quoted. One job I needed within 24 hours and that was accomplished, no problem.
The ladies can come across as slightly abrasive, but I think it’s just a cultural difference. English is a second language so they speak with fewer words. Accents also make their speech sound harsh. I would probably sound curt if I were a business owner trying to speak a second language to a native speaker. That said, I’m sure their body language could help fill in the gaps.

Parking along the street in downtown Portland is difficult, especially during the day! Also, they only accept cash or checks. With PayPal, Register, and other mobile apps that accept credit card payments, the business should adapt to changing times. Lastly, they close at 6 PM. I don’t know what time other alteration shops close, but 6 PM is so early for people who work a 9 – 5. It’s difficult for me to make these hours with traffic and I even work and live downtown.

My daughter was assigned ridiculously large trunks by her high school basketball team. They were so big, she really couldn’t play. We went to see John at DZ and the world is safe again for freshman girls playing JV basketball. We were treated with kind humor and enjoyed a quick turnaround. The shorts (both home and away) look great! We’ll be back.

I had these friendly folk do a few small alterations, mostly hemming & the like. I was referred here by a local clothing shop. first ~4−6 jobs were real good, reasonably priced, no problem. I had one item I asked them to put a rush on, which they said was no problem, come back tomorrow for it. I came back two days later for it, and they had not begun the hemming. After some confusion in the shop and killing an hour downtown waiting, my jeans came out with a lopsided hem. It’s not bad, but it’s not acceptable.
Some clothing ain’t cheap, and I’m not paying $ 20 to see it diminished in quality, while putting up with poor service.
A step up from your standard combo dry cleaners/​tailor, certainly no European Master though.

Seeing all the hot and cold reviews for DZ, I always sort of wondered if my time would come. I’ve used them several times with great results, thinking all those negative reviews must have it wrong.
My time finally came. I purchased a gorgeous, pricey (for me) dress at Anthropologie but the bodice did not lay quite right. I took it to DZ to see if it was fixable. They popped some pins in that looked good to me, and I left the dress there to be picked up the following week.
Long story short. I had to return to the shop on three separate occasions this week, because each time I attempted to pick it up, it did not look right. The first attempt was a downright disaster. The issue wasn’t fixed, the fabric had gotten skewed and bulged in places, etc. After my FOURTH trip in, which is not the ultimate in convenience, it was finally in a wearable-​enough state for me to take home.
I will say this, while the ladies there can seem curt at times, they were nice about the whole thing and genuinely wanted to fix the problem for me. They even made a few attempts to redo things while I waited, which was nice. I just wish they would have told me up front that this was going to be a difficult/​not entirely possible fix.
I was mildly irritated at the end when she announced «$ 35» to me after she had written $ 30 on the slip. I politely mentioned that I was quoted $ 30 (and that’s all the cash I brought with me), and she said OK… but she was sure to comment under her breath how much work my dress took as she was hanging it up for me. I found two more dollars in my purse and we called it even at $ 32.
In the end, the dress is wearable. It is no longer the beautiful, pristine gown that I originally purchased, as the seams have all been stitched and torn out and restitched and folded and tacked and. The edges were left quite messy as well. Just not a very professional look overall. I might be the only one who notices, but looking good in a dress does have a little bit to do with how it feels to you.
I will continue to bring jeans and other simple alterations here, no question. I will likely try to find another seamstress for any delicate or complicated jobs.

DZ Alteration is THE BEST !!! My jeans and shorts have been fixed here multiple times. It is the best deal in town! Everyone that works here is SO friendly !!! I will go to DZ Alteration for the rest of my life.

This hourglass figured Asian seamstresses is all about «taking care of business.» Walked straight into a changing stall and changed into my dress to be altered. Next moment, I’m standing on stool while she’s using this gadget to determine the accurate hemline. Came back following Tuesday and it’s was waiting me as promised… all this for just $ 14.

So I have this awesome jacket that is really special to me. I bought it at Value Village Thrift Store back in 1985 or so and I paid around $ 9.99 for it. Whenever I wear it into vintage shops, I am the envy of the proprietors and I’ve even had an offer of a $ 100.00 once to sell it off my back. The jacket did not fit me — in fact it was extremely huge on me.
But here’s why it’s special: the jacket has a man’s name and the date October 26, 1973, embroidered on the inside pockets. I was curious about that so one day I looked up the guy in the phone book and I found him! He was happy that I called and we talked about the jacket and how he had it specially made for him in Hong Kong for his honeymoon cruise and that his bride had a long gown made out of the same fabric. If you look at the photo of the crazy jacket, I’m sure you can just imagine what a sight they must have been!
Fast forward almost 40 years and I am finally ready for the jacket to fit me properly. I thought of taking it to Well Suited and having my usual tailor do the alteration but he is so booked I knew it would take forever and I needed it sooner rather than later. I took the jacket to European Master Tailor Sylvain and he told me that because of the huge size of the jacket, it would be impossible to alter it and he couldn’t help me.
I should have gone straight to DZ Alteration in the first place. The second I walked in the door, I am «Baby!», so cute! But everyone is baby there. I liked her confidence. No hesitation, she told me she could do it but that it would be expensive because the jacket would have to be deconstructed. If you think $ 60.00 for work of this kind is expensive, then OK. I think it is very reasonable. She had my jacket ready for me in less than a week and it fits!
Baby loves her new crazy tuxedo jacket and baby has a new tailor.
