Do Rad Cuts & Color

I absolutely had a fantastic experience here at DO! Toni gave me the best cut and color. She is super nice and incredibly talented. I love her enthusiasm. She was so excited about doing my Oil Slick look. I recommend her and I am happy to announce that I have a New Hairdresser. She rules and is totally RAD!

My color really didn’t turn out at all what I was looking for and was waaaay to expensive. Staff was really spunky and friendly but I could have achieved the color I received by doing it myself at home. Ended up having to lighten it myself. :(

My lady Allison is amazing. Only stylist I’ve ever known to accommodate my busy schedule and of course dealing with my hair! She knows her sh! t! I will always go back to you. Thanks to her I have a brand new style and attitude.

Made an appointment online, got there and was told that my hairdresser had to cancel at the last minute and had «tried to get ahold of me.» I gave the online sign up system every way possible to contact me and heard nothing at all, not even an email. It’s 2015, there’s no excuse for this kind of thing, especially when you are using an online appointment system.

I love this place. Danielle Nord deos my cut and color and she is amazing. The atmosphere is great and I always feel well taken care of.

I’m still fairly new to the area and don’t have a regular hair stylist. I set up an appointment with Danielle at Do! for a full set of highlights and a cut after feeling frustrated and overwhelmed by all the choices available in the Portland area and not wanting to spend more than I could afford. I am really pleased with her work! I wanted a cooler blonde mixed in with my more warm blonde and she got the color right on. She took her time to do even distribution and got close to the roots. The cut and texture she gave me looks very nice also!

I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the salon itself is kind of cramped and a bit overstimulating when full. As a person who gets a bit claustrophobic, I had to focus my energy on not feeling anxious during some of my appointment. A beer would have helped ha. I would recommend all client’s get offered one, as it looked like some people were offered beers but others weren’t. Maybe it’s up to each stylist to supply their own beer, but it’s hard seeing other people enjoy a cold brew while I’m kind of anxious and secretly DYING for one. The art and music are good and the other stylists are nice and there is a feeling of «good vibes» all around though, so even if overstimulating, it a least wasn’t a negative energy goin’ on.
Seriously, the haircut and color by Danielle look great!

Got a cut by Danielle. It was a lot of look… if I had more time I would have been able to point out the faults such as length and style. I showed a picture that couldn’t have been clearer but it was overlooked and ignored. Luckily I have plenty of hats.

Super cute and eclectic hair salon. Danielle did a great job with color and cut. I brought her in a picture and she did a fantastic job interpreting the style for my hair. Very happy with the cut and color! Will definitely go back!

My daughter wanted her bangs trimmed with a razor, without paying for an entire haircut. I found this business in my search and called up and got an appointment within an hour! Very pleased with this salon. The owner was very nice and so understanding a easy to work with, which has not been my experience in many salons. My daughter got exactly what she was looking for at a very reasonable price. Thanks Rebecca! We will return again.

I am more than pleased with my cut, color and style I just received here. Hands down, the BEST OF THE BEST for both their work and their prices! I went to a really cool woman named Christine and she gave me a completely new look (as requested) and my entire cut, weave (multi-​hair color highlights) and style was all just $ 95 that is very fair and I am happier than ever before. I will def be going here now and seeing Christine, excellent enviroment, hair stylists and place!

I’m always nervous about letting people cut my hair. I’ve had some bad experiences in the past. I’ve never had that cool hairdresser/​client kinda bond before either. This place rocks, my hairdresser Rebecca is amazing, and the best part about it is they are all pros at dealing with curly hair. The atmosphere is great, everyone is friendly, the art on the walls is bad ass, the music is good, and most importantly, I always leave with my hair looking like a million bucks!

Not going back here.
I arrived 15 minutes early for my appt. and nobody was there, but I didn’t think much of it. Waited around for about an HOUR for someone to show up and open the store. Nobody came, or answered the phone.
The next day when I finally got ahold of someone, I was told «Oops, she must have forgotten she had appointments set for Sunday!» So I reschedule, get my hair cut, and they charge me 40 bucks. No discount. Not even so much as a «Hey sorry you wasted a whole afternoon on your only day off for the week!»
Oh, and the haircut was nothing to write home about either.

I wish I could give this place no stars. I found them to be very unorganized, they cancelled my second appointment twice without notice. Once before Christmas, another the day before I met myfsther in law to be.
In short they managed to sabotage my holiday season with unprofessionalism.
I ended up going to aveda, SO MUCH better! Products amazing, prompt, clean, and I didn’t see my hairdye Going down the drain everytime i took a shower like I did with do rad. Do Rad uses sexy hair lowbudget products. Why go there when Aveda is the same price!!!

So, I got my hair cut a week ago at a salon that shall not be named. They gave me a she-​beeb. I know, I know, I should have spoken up when I was there, but I could tell she just wasn’t getting it.
Anyways, fast-​forward 5 days and here I am at Do Rad sitting in Rebecca’s chair sipping my complimentary PBR tallboy (at 10:30am…it’s never too early for a Friday PBR). I’m giving her a vague idea of what I want. Before the Bieber disaster, I hadn’t had my hair cut professionally for over a year and a half.
Me: I don’t know, I kind of just want it «edgier» than this and I want some color in it, like violet or something.
That was all I gave her to go on and I left an hour and a half later with an awesome cut with amazing color (a little of my original red, some dark reddish-​violet, and some really dark, almost black pieces)! She truly worked a miracle on my finicky, fine, limp hair and I’m so grateful! I’ll definitely be returning!

I’ve been getting my hair cut at Do! since I returned to Portland about two years ago. My first stylist was Kris, but when she left the studio I decided to stick around because I loved the salon’s fantastic atmosphere. I love the purple walls, Lana Guerra’s art and the diverse range of music playing on the stereos. It feels like a fun Portland living room more than a sterile salon — and although I know this isn’t for everybody, it’s a great fit if you’re a fan of the SE Portland aesthetic.
Last June, I decided to take an enormous plunge and cut off almost all of my hair — for the first time since I was a toddler. I booked an appointment with April, and knew I had chosen the right stylist when she reacted with pure glee to my request «make it as short as possible, while still flattering». Her excitement made the entire process a blast, and I ended up with a cut that looked better than anything I’d imagined. I honestly thought I’d wear the short hair for a couple months just as an experiment, but little did I know — April cut it in a way that’s incredibly flattering!
Since I also worked color into the style not long after, this high-​maintenance cut means monthly trips to Do!, which would only work for me if I loved my stylist. Luckily, I feel totally comfortable with April, who is an incredibly fun hostess. I swear I leave every hair appointment with some ridiculous story she’s told me, and otherwise see my visits to Do! as a chance to relax after a long work day — and not as a chore.
My cuts are $ 45 each, and my color is $ 75 — so this haircut is not cheap to maintain. I’ve seen several people comment that $ 45 seems steep for a haircut, but honestly that’s the price I’ve been used to with salons, and I’ve never been disappointed with April’s work. In the rare case that something goes awry with the cut, she’s more than happy to make fixes free of charge.
My sister has also been seeing April for as long as I have and has been similarly happy with her results.
Do! is different than most other salons I’ve been to, and that’s why I love it. I’ve never been much of a hair person, so going and getting my hair cut always felt like an uncomfortable necessity. Do! feels like home to me, and I love April’s work. As a result, getting a haircut has become a lot more fun.

In my search for a new salon in Portland, I was looking for a low-​key, low-​maintenance place and decided to make an appointment at Do-​Rad based on all the positive reviews.
You see, my last haircut left me with a hipster mullet and a nubby ponytail for 3 months, so this time — I needed a plan. And pictures.
The Good:
All in all, it was a positive experience. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the company and even the small banter — something I tend to avoid like the plague. But it was refreshingly chill here. My stylist listened to my hair-​requests and did a great job interpreting it into a stylish, low-​maintenance haircut. Kudos, lady.
The Bad:
$ 45 for a cut is pretty insane, — especially for bangs + trim. The huge thing for me though was this. I wasn’t informed it’s CASH + CHECK only when I called to make an appointment. And somehow Unilocal says cards are accepted.
Not a huge deal but still. Ultimately it affected the tip, because it could have been easily avoided.
The Lovely:
Free PBR while waiting. Free parking in back, if available.

Our stylist Nicole moved here from another shop, so we dutifully followed. (She actually moved to Do! almost a year ago, sorry to be so slow!)
I love Nicole! Even though she specializes in clients with curly hair, she takes on my Japanese tresses with expert hands. She’s been so helpful with my color experimentation — there’s been streaks in colors from red to blue and then there are coats of blue black or a warmer brown black to cover up the growing out phases of the streaks. She’s also super supportive in my ongoing «bangs? Or no bangs?» debates.
Do! itself is a cozy shop that efficiently uses every inch of space. I love the art and the wig displays. There’s always fun music playing at a nice volume — not so loud as to drown out conversation, but loud enough to hear it. Today there was Cyndi Lauper so that was super fun!
I also like their patio area. While waiting for bleach or dye to transform my hair it is nice to be able to sit outside and read in a pleasant area protected from passing gawkers. I know the foil makes me look like I’m trying to contact a satellite or the mothership.
I’d follow Nicole to the furthest, most dismal corners of the Portland metro area… thankfully Do! is a happy, fun shop in a convenient location with free parking.

I haven’t had a haircut in well more than two years… To me, finding someone trustworthy to cut your hair is as serious finding an outstanding dentist. Being a recent New Haven transplant, Unilocal happily helped me w/​one of those so, I thought I’d brave hair salons.
I called on a Saturday morning whim and was sitting in Allison’s chair within an hour. She understood my reservations & uncertainty w/​ease and we huddled on how best to get me from 1 ½ ft long ponytail to buzzcut. Over the next 45min, we talked the usual chairchat but was never forced or insincere. The cut was almost exactly what I was looking for and at our next appt, we’d discussed seeing what worked, what didn’t and how we might plot to change it up. Being indecisive w/​hair, it’s the reassurance that I want.
I was prepared to pay Salon prices w/​a Capital ‘S’ and was surprised at a very reasonable bill. My inverse sticker shock was rewarded w/​a tip to make up the difference. The best review is my wife’s bitten lip at first sight and the dash back home to further mess it up.

To my dismay, I discovered at an early age that I cannot pull off the Farah or Dorothy Hamill [insert up-​to-​date pop culture reference for the young whipper snappers here.] unlike my Caucasian cohorts. My hair pretty much has a mind of its own but apparently does good animé. So armed with a photo & the imp of perversion riding shotgun I shuffled into DRCC a mere mortal & emerged a cyberpunk avatar.
My transformation involved ~3 hours of strategic bleaching, dyeing, & cutting with off-​the-​wall commentary by Lana my stylist & the rest of the customers & staff. It’s a tiny space with 4 stylist chairs so after the first hour, you get to know your people. I belong to the razor-​cut cult so was very happy to have Lana slash away at my tresses. Asian hair does really well with razor-​cuts because they do edgy/​chunky well. All told for the spendy price of $ 140 + tip I walked out looking like Gally-​chan from Battle Angel with blue velvet streaks reflecting the weak fall sunlight. I don’t know how often I’ll be walking on the wild side but it was worth it.
So if you have a rampant cyborg who needs a lesson in etiquette just give me a jingle, it may take a while tho, my leather suit is at the cleaners.

Yes sir ee, bay-​bee… I’m looking good now! :) I really adore this place… it’s so laid-​back. Décor is right along the lines of «dive bar», but with shampoo, conditioner, and de-​frizzers. The people in there are super easy to talk to, and Kristi did a fantastic job on my color… I’ve really never been happier. Of course, I will say that it’s ALWAYS nice NOT to look in the mirror and see my gray-​ass hair, but this color is divine… and all thanks to Kristi.
The cut is a little not my style… maybe a little too wispy, but overall very happy. I will ask for something different next time on the cut, but I’ll be good to go when I get my bi-​annual «do» at the Do! Also of note is that Kristi rocks to talk to… very down to earth, and very fun… she has just a wonderful range of knowledge to keep anyone entertained.

Not too bad, but damn it — I wish that being beautiful didn’t cost so much money… why can’t I be just a little less gray, and have that perfect hair that air dries in the perfect location after a cut from Super Cuts? Ah, one can dream…
