Signs you are in the wrong place: everything is sticky, the menu is a Xerox of a Xerox and it is stained. The coffee is weak, the eggs are runny and the home fries taste like butane and are both burnt AND raw. The toilet paper dispenser is empty, but don’t worry, there are 2 rolls just out of reach on the floor. The waitress is nice and you should tip her and leave after realizing this is not going to end well.

My husband follows gluten free/low FODMAP diet and this place was great! Plenty of options for him, and myself. He had the gf French toast and side of bacon, and I had the pancake with bacon and eggs. All of it was great, but the bacon was the best part.

I have three words: BISCUITSANDGRAVY. My favorite breakfast is hard to come by without sausage(im vegetarian) and honestly, it tastes better with sausage. But cup and saucer has the perfect solution: veggie sausage inside the gravy. YUM. That and our waitresses have always been sweeties. My favorite breakfast

Slow service. Cold food. Music too loud. Coffee refills not automatic. I met some friends for lunch but the music was too loud for conversation. Our food took awhile to arrive and was cold. Our server was curt and not very attentive.

Another nice meal at Cup &Saucer yesterday. The club sandwich and walnut and apple salad. Fresh food, good service, great local eatery. BACKFORBREAKFAST. Good times again and shopping up and down Hawthorne Blvd with very unique shops!

At first glacé, I was excited to try this place because I was very hungry. When we sat down we already got a bad first impression because of our waitress’ attitude. Business was slow at this time, but our order took over an hour. The sandwiches were okay, and the fries were cold. Both the orders and the checks got messed up and the waitress gave us attitude when we asked what went wrong. Even the ketchup tasted stale. Would not go here again.

Worst place ever. I was so excited to try it but i immediately changed my mind. The waitress was Mrs. cranky pants. Food took too long although business was slow and my friend’s mango iced tea tasted like ass– mango flavored ass. The girl then proceeded fail by bringing us home cut fries instead of regular. The ranch was watered down. Sandwhich was dry but okay. The ketchup was absolute horror. Do you know those tomatoes that you cut and they are too squishy? Well the ketchup tasted like room temperature squishy tomatoes soaked in dish water. The forks contained dried food and were stuck like an overly attached girlfriend. The girl also mixed up the checks after I specifically labeled them on the receipt and after telling her nicely, she just walked off without saying a word. No tip for you miss cranky pants.

Love this little gem right down the street from my apartment. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. Reasonably priced. I love choosing a few things of the sides list and creating my own dish. Will be back again and again.

We really enjoy eating here. The service is good, the food is great, and the prices are reasonable. Sometimes the wait is long –bring an umbrella if you’re waiting outside– but wait. Don’t give up.

Stopped in here for brunch on a Sunday late morning and sat outside with our dog. The beginning was a little rocky as the server took forever to get out to us and then din’t seem to know what was on the menu. Anyway, we ordered a Spanish Coffee, Eggs Benedict, and a burger with swiss cheese, mushrooms, and bacon. They call it an all burger but I added avocado to make it really ‘all’. The Spanish Coffee was really good and fairly priced @ $ 7.50. Then came the food. I must say that everything was really good. In fact, the burger was one of the best I have had in some time. I think the best thing was that they don’t put mayo on it so you really get the taste of the ingredients. Once the burger came out I ordered an IPA to wash it down and by this time the server had got her act together and got it out pretty quickly. Reading some of the recent bad reviews, perhaps we just got lucky but I would go back.

I did not have a good experience. The eggs in the omelette where still running… Not properly scrabbled. They forgot my toast. I liked the sweet fried potatoes tho. It might have been just bad luck but as I was sitting the couple next to me were actually complaining about their food. Not a good sign.

UPDATE: It’s important to be fair here, I heard back from the manager in a very gracious and kind email. I’m updating the review to fair because of her actions. I’ve been to Cup & Saucer several times — it has never had fast service, or attentive service. It(was) a great place to go if you just wanted to hang out in cool hipster hawthorne for breakfast. But after today, I certainly won’t go back. I took my parents, and we expected the long wait for food — so we brought dominos and just hung out. But after the 45 minutes, only my parents food came, and both were done inaccurately. My food came 10 minutes later, at which time we requested that the server actually redo my mom’s food with the correct order. The waitress wasn’t irritated that we requested, but she was thoroughly indifferent and didn’t even acknowledge that it was done incorrectly. Finally, my mom’s food was brought out and the pancake was really undercooked and was only edible on the outside. The waitress never came back except to finally bring a check. When I went up to the counter I asked that they at least comp the pancake. She said she needed to ask her manager, and then she told him that we were unhappy because our food came out in stages. I was pretty irritated at this point and explained that while the food did come out in four stages, that wasn’t the issue. Two of the three dishes were completely wrong, and then the pancake came out uncooked. The manager gave an irritated«yeah sorry, but as you can see we’re busy.» The reality is, this is a restaurant that just doesn’t give a cr@p about their customers. I knew they weren’t fast, and I knew they weren’t particularly friendly. But this last time ended it. If they had simply acknowledged at any stage that the service wasn’t going well, I’d spare everyone the bad review. But instead I had to chase down the manager, who was clearly irritated to have to do the right thing and remove the item. Spare yourself… there are too many other fantastic restaurants in Portland with folks who actually care.

I’ve really wanted this place to be great, given it 3 tries and they fail. The worst disinterested service, mediocre food that always comes late and cold. Do not waste your time. I hope they close soon so that a restaurant that actually cares can open.

I have eaten here at least 25 times over the years. The last two visits were terrible. The last visit we had the gluten-free pancakes. They are made out of cornmeal.(They charge you an extra $ 1 for maple syrup. Seriously.) We might as well have been eating condensed corn bread. They were beyond terrible; they were so heavy, they were inedible. The visit before, we had the gluten-free french toast: They were burnt. Thank goodness that there are sooo many better places to eat breakfast now in Portland.

A nice little«Portland-y» café. The portions are generous and the price reasonable($ 8.95 for biscuits and gravy with home fries). The gravy was a bit bland, but it wasn’t lumpy or pasty, so that’s a plus. I would definitely go back. It’s a nice place to have breakfast and then walk around Hawthorne afterwards.

It’s really not a bad place, though it gets a bit loud — because it obviously gets crowded. The menu is good and varied, so there seems to be plenty for everyone. Everyone serving seemed rushed, and it’s not the kind of place you sit and yak with your server for hours — get in, order, and be done with it. The portions are actually on the small’ish side. It’s interesting, they serve on small plates — like the oval salad plates you get elsewhere as a starter? Yeah, those. I didn’t mind the smaller portion, and neither did my thighs — but I do caution you that if you’re hungry, do not expect a huge pile of «I’ll take this home if I don’t finish it», because you will.

I’ve always had a good experience here. Great food. Good portions. By good I mean, they fill you, but don’t stuff you. They have good beers on tap and tasty mimosas. They have vegetarian and vegan options that are tasty enough for meatatarians like me.

Is there anything about Portland that isn’t super fucking cute? The servers here are all adorable and super nice. I went here for breakfast and split the coffeecake with my boyfriend. I think it might be a special, but I can’t remember. I highly recommend the one with mixed berries. I had it seven months ago and I still remember it; if that doesn’t convince you, then I don’t know what will.
