Bingo Used Books

This place is fantastic. Stuffed floor to ceiling with amazing stuff it’s not the kind of place you want to go if you need a specific book (unless it’s a well known classic) but a place to get lost in a sea of hidden gems.
The employees are always helpful and polite, once they even let me kids pick out a book for free, and the atmosphere while always chaotic is clean and easy to get around in.
My husband loves it for their old comic book selecting, I think their well organized «classic literature» section is a home schoolers dream come true.

This place is amazing. Yes, it’s a totally disorganized mess, and they can’t/won’t help you find stuff, but who cares? That just makes it more fun imo. I love digging through their 1 $ VHS tapes, most of which are alphabetized. I wish I had more time to spend rummaging around this place.

I know Powell’s just got rated best bookstore in the world (!) but BINGO, man. Bingo is pretty great.
Let’s discuss.
They are a pretty large (and somewhat disorganized) shop so it’s a treasure hunter’s dream but not really a good idea if you’re looking for a specific title. Within broad headings (TRAVEL, PSYCHOLOGY) there were many titles but if there was a system, it seemed flimsy.
They have textbooks, comics, VHS, DVD, magazines and all sorts of books (fiction, non fic). They have a clearance wall that is $ 1 AND b3g1free.
If you like them on FB and check in, there’s a 10% discount.
Basically, I would put this up there with the best of Portland’s literary options, especially if you just want «a book» to read and not a specific book (I go through phases).
There’s a small parking lot with 4 – 6 spots and they have weird hours (open at 12, never earlier). They take cards (with a 25 cent charge if it’s under $ 5). The sales associate was very chill, it wasn’t a place where the workers follow you around. There were sales going on and I got a stack of stuff for under $ 3.
Can’t hate. Bingo.

This place is ridiculous. If you like books, records, comics, tapes, vhs movies, or vintage playboys, you can spend hours here. Best book store I’ve been to for a while.

For years, I have driven by this bookstore and made no attempts to go check it out. I went with a friend and it was amazing! It’s larger than it looks from the outside. If you are looking for new fiction, this might not be the place for you because they don’t have a lot available and there’s a chance they might but popular books go fast. However, they have a great selection of classic novels for very inexpensive.

I can’t say anything positive about this used book store because I got into an argument with whoever picked up the phone when I called to inquire whether they had a certain book in stock.
It started with me asking if they had said book and them telling me it’s a «Browsing» store and that I’d have to pay $ 15-​$ 20 for them to find the book for me, whereas, it’d «Probably» be a dollar if I came in and found it myself.
Mind you, they didn’t offer to look it up in their computer system to even tell me if they had it somewhere amongst their «100,000» books. I was just supposed to come in and hope they had a copy, somewhere. Being that they also sell books online, I figured they would keep an inventory of what they had for sale listed in their computer, but when I asked this, the guy grumpily said «We don’t». I wasn’t even sure if he meant that they don’t sell books online any more or just don’t keep track of what they have in the store.
When I said that I didn’t have time to search for a book they may or may not have, the guy on the phone says «Oh, but I do?» He should. One would think its their business to know what they have in stock.
In the end, I hung up, frustrated that our conversation was turning into an argument; fast.
My end solution is to just continue ordering books through Amazon or — when I have time — to browse through Goodwill’s books, which are at least broadly sorted by type (fiction, non-​fiction for a start).

Books, books, and more books (and I think videos and the like as well, but I’m going to focus on the books). The books are piled up in stacks and on shelves, around corners and bends. At the same time, they are well organized by various category and even subcategory (i.e. history books are broken down by type of history). Prices vary on the books, but overall they are well priced and often times cheaper than other used bookstores. They also have a huge section with many different books all priced at $ 1– I assume ones that have been sitting around for awhile– and it does take some time to browse through, but many a gem of a book can be found in this section. If you are the type who enjoys picking up books and reading them as you shop, you will among good company here and will definitely find yourself many books richer at the end of your stop.

This place is very affordable, and has a wide selection. It’s kind of refreshing to go to bookstore that isn’t snooty in this city.
However, YES: it is unorganized.
ALSO, I’m not going to lie some of the guys that work there creep me out.
But at the end of the day I can always buy a good amount of books here for less than $ 20 dollars, get some sort of discount, and browse for hours in a relaxed environment.

They have so many great books to choose from at a great price! Staff is very helpful and friendly, I would definitely recommend this place.

Great place for buying cheap books, if you can find anything in the rat’s nest that is this store, terrible place for selling. I was offered $ 7 total for well over 200 books, with $ 2 of that just for a set of ‘learn Spanish’ cassette tapes. The owner was very rude when I said that it would be nice to see more information about buy/​trade prices on the website or to have been warned when I called earlier in the day and explained what I’d be selling. He said they do 10 — 15 buys a day and that I was the first disappointed person he’d had. I ended up selling a fraction of the books I had brought, still for $ 6, after demanding that I at least receive 5¢ per book and he sorted out the ones he would take.
Terrible attitude and environment for customers. This shop has lost my patronage and I don’t recommend you even bother with it.

Great selection for a used book store, amazing prices, and friendly staff. I found this place by accident and ended leaving with a box full of books for only $ 30. The same haul would have cost me closer to $ 100 at Powell’s. I will definitely be coming back.

I don’t know if this place changed management or what, but this place is terrible!
It’s a huge location that advertises buy, sell, trade, which I’m always into! With Powell being so selective I thought this would be my new place. AND they have records!
I walked in to trade in or a sell a record of mine, Fleetwood Macs, FleetWood Mac. As soon as I walked in the owner? Was just staring down reading a book and didn’t even bother to greet me as I walked up to the counter. When I presented him with my LP he asked rudely if I came in with that or got it here? I had literally walked straight to the counter upon entering and was now being accused of stealing?
Aside from being called a their he then offered me 50 cents buy back, no trade, that’s its 50 cents. Yea I’m going to pass, and also never come back. No idea how this place stays open

My husband and I bought a ton of books here today! A lot of these were marked down and because we bought so many they took an additional $ 15 off. I got a book of love poems by ovid, a book on faberge art, a book on Tiffany & Co windows, a book on gardening in the Pacific Northwest and Native American art of the Pacific Northwest. They have a lot of older books, and even though they are in the right sections not everything is in order. They have cd, dvds, vhs, records, paperbacks and tons of books.

A big plus-​minus for me; the size of the place and the quantity of offerings ensure that there are gems to be found here. We’re not talking just books: CDs and especially VHS are in astounding supply at Bingo. Aside from the general subject categorizations, however, none of it is remotely organized. If you’re like me, and prefer at least the author alphabetization to be ready for you as you’re browsing you are completely out of luck. If you’re up for just randomly browsing stacks and seeing what treasures you discover, you could spend weeks here on end. But if you’re hellbent on a specific obscure title or author, you’d best be prepared to roll up your sleeves and start digging… and walk in with plenty of patience!
