Specialties

I practice a variety of massage modalities including deep tissue, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and swedish massage with an intense focus on therapeutic relief from acute injuries, chronic dysfunction. I also offer pre and post event massage for athletes.

My normal rates are on a sliding scale between $ 50 and $ 70 for a 1-​hour session or $ 85 for a 90-​minute session.

I have been practicing massage for the past four years, working closely with clients and other practitioners to outline, implement, and maintain treatment plans for a broad range of issues.

I graduated from East West College in Fall of 2009 and I’ve had a private practice since. I also work at a busy chiropractic clinic a couple days a week. The clinic has really helped me round out my abilities and it has challenged me to be creative in my treatment plans.

I’m a bit of a body geek. The function of the musculoskeletal system is absolutely fascinating to me and this drives me to constantly seek new information in the treatment of dysfunction therein. I believe that client education in proper body mechanics and care post-​massage is essential to helping people heal and I communicate this information in an easy and effective manner.

To me, the art of massage is a difficult one. Most that I’ve been to fall into the average or slightly above average category. Not Bill… he’s amazing. A friend recommended him to me after realizing that I need to deal with a recurring, enormous (and quite literal) pain in my neck. Every time I see him, I feel better than new. To say that his massage is amazing, leaves too much room for interpretation, though. Now, to be clear, he doesn’t provide a cushy, spa-​style massage and it’s not about going in for a relaxing session. He gets in there and does what is necessary for forward progress. Sometimes you may actually want to swear at him, then all of a sudden the thing you went in to see him for is miraculously better. Please don’t look any further, and book an appointment with him. There is only one person who I’ll go to for massage as long as they are practicing, and that is Bill.

I’ve been going to Bill for about six months now. He consistently gives high quality massages in a comfortable setting at a very reasonable price. Bill has absolutely no mercy for tight muscles and knots, but any pain I experience always feels 100% worth it the next day. He’s clearly knowledgeable and offers helpful pointers on ways I can keep the aches away at home (as well as insight into how I might have gotten them to begin with). His space is zero frills — just a clean, quiet atmosphere without any fuzzy slippers, scented oils, or trickling creek sounds. I’d recommend Bill to anyone looking for a skilled massage therapist.

I have been searching for 2 years for someone who could administer true deep tissue massage. My own beloved massage therapist had moved out of the area and I had tried 4 other massage therapists who claimed to administer deep tissue massage and was disappointed after each visit. Seriously in need of some back care, I went to Unilocal and Bills name came up on the top of the list. After reading the reviews I decided to give him a try. I waited 24 hours to see how I felt before posting this.
I can tell you that Bill is the real deal. His technique is different from my previous favored therapist, but every bit as effective. Like many others I appreciate his no-​nonsense approach to treatment. I feel awesome today. I can handle deep tissue no problem and it’s the only thing that works for me. It is so good to finally get a decent treatment! I can heartily recommend Bill with 5 stars if what you are looking for is a true deep tissue massage. He is personable and professional, great combination.

I can echo what most everyone else said about Bill. His approach is absent of the cheesy wuwu you normally encounter with massage and he uses the correct medical terminology. Bill has a knack at finding evil spots you didn’t even know existed! I went to him with jacked up shoulders and back from being on crutches for a month and I can feel a noticeable difference after just one visit. I will definitely become a regular.

Bill Howell is an extremely competent deep tissue massage therapist who works out of a relaxing, convenient inner Hawthorne studio. Look no further if you need a serious massage. I am no construction worker. But after pretending to be one for 3 weeks my right shoulder, most of my neck and upper back along my spine were fried. I was so knotted up I had to rotate my upper body to change my field of vision, which made safe driving a big NOT. I needed someone able to apply serious pressure in the right places — thanks to all Bill’s Unilocal reviewers for making it clear he was the one. If I were in town longer I would have gone back at least one more time, but that first time plus some range of motion work in the hot tub once I was back home made a world of difference. After talking a bit, Bill told me what muscles were affected, what he was going to do to them, and did it.

Bill is a way more awesome massage therapist than I can describe. I suffered a broken neck 13 years ago and have had migraines and muscle spasms ever since. Bill has been able to help me reduce the frequency and duration of my migraines as well as settle the muscles in my neck and shoulders. He has a very calm demeanor and is very «tuned-​in» to his patients needs. He always remembers what the last session encompassed and reviews it to see if the same thing needs to be done during the current one. He has suggested many helpful stretches to do during the time I am away from the office and additional ways to stay «flexible» when not in his care. I honestly can’t say enough good things about him and I will continue to see him as long as I possibly can!

I have been going to Bill regularly for 3 years now. Why? Because he is very good at what he does, I feel comfortable with him, and he is honest in his advice. I always leave his office feeling a few inches taller! I have been to a few other LMTs and can’t say the same about any of them. He is extremely perceptive about what is going on with my body and chooses the best way to handle my issues. He has fixed me many times and does not shy away from letting me know if he thinks that I could benefit from additional types of therapies such as chiropractic. Bill is the best!

Bill is an amazing massage therapist, the best I have ever had and I have had many massages. He specializes in deep tissue massage. I usually like Swedish style massage but after experiencing Bill’s technique of deep tissue it is the best. He finds the sore muscles and goes deep to relieve the tension. I walk out of the session feeling like a new man ever time! I recommend him strongly! You will feel better by far and his style is very chill and easy going but yet strong to work out the muscle pain. I run 5 – 10 miles a day and especially appreciate his massages after a long run.

Bill’s great. It was hard finding a massage therapist so no-​nonsense, affordable and skilled. He’s really been focused on long-​term improvement of my back problems. I can really tell he’s working hard to try to find the best approach to make me healthier. He asks tons of questions and makes sure to let you know what he’s doing. On next appointments he’s sure to follow up with questions on how specific muscles responded. It’s a very professional experience, and I almost always walk out feeling happy that I’ve made real progress on improving my health.
Also, there is no hippy nonsense going on. No hot stones or faux-​Chinese new age music. It’s clearly possible to have a clean, comfortable and relaxing studio without the corniness too often involved with getting massages.

Bill is fantastic! Some people say they give good deep tissue massage and though their massages may feel lovely on the surface, they don’t really get into the root of the problem. Bill can really work out some serious tension and leave you feeling wrung out and de-​kinked. He is particularly good with neck and back issues.

I went to see Bill with a specific and persistent muscle ache. He asked me several questions prior to the session and then began targeting the area around the pain and then the the muscle itself.
