Went here for a fundraiser they held for my cousin Ricky and his daughter. They put out a beautiful spread of food and bevvies and all script and flash was very well priced and all proceeds went to Ricky.
I will be back for my black belt tattoo and my gaelic forearm piece.
Not just because of what they did for my family, their work is top notch.

Went in for a finger tattoo with 2 other friends. I never really consulted about my tattoo which I now regret. I had a single word tattoo’d…The first two letters are crooked, and the letters progressively get bigger in size near end of it. I was still charged full price… and I still tipped out of good etiquette. However, my other two friends also got finger tattoos and theirs look great. I guess it’s hit or miss.

I have gotten tattooed by Jason K. Joe L and Ross C. All three are amazing. Jason is world renowned and the owner. He’s known for full body Japanese work. Joe is great! He’s done most of my tats and known for his amazing line work and Polynesian tats to be exact. Ross has done my most recent tattoo (I’ll try and post a pic) and it is AMAZING! It hurt like a mothhaaa, but he got it done in just two hours and the healing started just 3 days later. This shop is by far the best shop in Portland. No way to go wrong here at all!

Gordon Combs did my tattoo a couple of weeks ago and I am super happy! I am quite impressed with the way he listened to my requests and he worked with me to get my tattoo looking exactly what I had imagined! He did the line work and shading on my cat Tatt and I have an appt set up for some color. I am also impressed that he got this big piece done in two hours! Thanks Gordon

The dudes were super accommodating of my fiancé and me (and our dog). We came in randomly and they got to us right away. All their hanging art looks great and the tattoos are solid. I’m sure we’ll be back.

Josiah Laughlin scheduled me for a session concurrent with my cousin who was seeing the owner Jason for a long-​term tattoo project (multiple sessions over months). He was extremely kind and made sure I was satisfied with the design & placement before beginning. My tattoo is about 5 inches on my inner bicep. During the process he asked if I was comfortable and «doing ok?» Which was very thoughtful. Although this is not my first tattoo, he certainly went the extra mile in my opinion to make sure I was happy with everything. I highly recommend these dudes and although I live 2 hrs away, I’d definitely come back again!

I’ve had Ross tattoo me now three times, and each experience and tattoo has been nothing but the best. Ross is a super professional artist. I can’t imagine going to anyone else.
If you’re looking for some insight, or you have an idea, Ross is your guy. He’s friendly, down to earth, no bullshit, and funny artist.
The other guys in the shop are also extremely amazing. Any one of them will help you get the tattoo you want, and make it look even better than you imagined.

My friend and I were catching up in Portland and wanted to get tattoos. Art Work Rebels was recommended to us by another local shop. We met with Jeff, who was able to get us in same day, and got exactly what we wanted. He did a great job, and is an amazing guy. I’d let him tattoo me anytime.

The best place to go for all black and Polynesian. Just see Joe! Every artist here is amazing, super friendly, and their shop has a great atmosphere. Also, worth checking out if you’re into taxidermy and oddities.

I crossed the line last week and got inked. I did a lot of research about shops and when I saw people who had cool tatts I asked they where they got theirs done. My wife did that when she got hers in Seattle and what better way to get info on shops than from customers, eh? Well, not only is AWO located near me on 23^rd Street but it came highly recommended. I walked in and met with Ross, showing him what I wanted and to make an appointment. He said it was an easy one and said he could do it right then. I came back a week later, he remembered me, and less than an hour later I walked out with my first tatt. It wasn’t anything elaborate but when you’re doing something permanent you want to go to the best, right? Ross was the boss! He did a great job, he was great to talk to throughout and the time flew by. The shop minimum is $ 100 (which is what I paid, plus tip) which may be more than I would have paid elsewhere but it’s worth it when we’re talking permanence. Portland has a ton of tattoo shops and that means you’re either good or your shut down. Well, AWO is not only good they’re at the top of the food chain. You won’t be disappointed.

My best friend and I had been hemming and hawing about getting matching tattoos while she was up here visiting from California. Having researched shops for awhile, I suggested we go check out Art Work Rebels to see if an artist would provide us with a brief consultation. Ross greeted us, listened to our idea, and provided us with his insights. He was kind, honest, and highly professional; we immediately felt at ease and booked time with him the next day. Our tattoos are matching sets of coordinates, which Ross executed brilliantly. He was receptive to our trepidation over the process (this was my first tattoo, her second) and the location (s) we chose – mine runs along the side of my ribs, my friend’s curves under her right breast.
Ross had great rapport with us, his table side manner was really comforting. Recognizing my friend had to essentially show her breast to a stranger, Ross did her a solid and made her a pasty to preserve some modesty while she received her tattoo; he also offered the use of privacy screens to obstruct the view of other clients.
Both our tattoos look fantastic; we’re extremely grateful for Ross’ expertise. He made sure the final product was subtle, but large enough to extend the integrity of the tattoo for as long as possible. I would recommend Ross to anyone who is seeking an honest consultation and skillful artistry.

Jeff P. is the man. He was super helpful and a fantastic artist. I got an East Coast classic American style Ringmaster and her tiger on my left forearm and I could not have asked for a better piece. It’s bright, vibrant, and highly detailed. All of the art I saw there was beautiful and worth checking out.
Unfortunately, there is a $ 100 MINIMUM which was a bummer because my girlfriend couldn’t get the small piece she wanted, but my review here is for the piece he did on me. I’m thoroughly satisfied with it. Also, BRING CASH as it’s cash only.

First time getting ink done in Portland since moving here in December and am very happy about coming here. I added a traditional shark to my already traditional ¾ sleeve and the line work and shading done by Josiah was clean and fit nicely with the other pieces.
Best part about the shop is the artists. Everyone that works there are pretty friendly, warm, supportive, and professional. Professionalism is hard to come by in shops these days, but Art Work Rebels stand alone as exemptions. I will definitely be returning to Josiah and the other guys in the near future.

If you’re in Portland and lookin to get a good tattoo, this is the place! Don’t cheat yo self TREAT yo self!!! Had the privilege of getting tattooed here not too long ago by Ross Carlson. They have some really great flash and some even greater artists working there. My wife and I walked in just to check out the spot, I was under the impression that they would probably be booked. Luckily there was plenty of time and we were both able to get awesome tattoos!(I recommend calling ahead of time to lock in a spot) Best of all, all the artists there were super nice, no ego trip whatsoever, which is very common in shops of this stature. I would have no hesitation about walking in and getting tattooed by anyone in there, and there aren’t many places like that around these days.

This is a shop with high standards. I love my flash and kustom tattoos by Jeff, Joe, and Ross (and Mike V, formerly at this shop). Down-​to-​earth, professional, friendly… but most of all, particularly excellent tattoos. I wish all my tattoos were this good. Thanks to Jason for running a fantastic shop.

AWR is one of my all time favorite shops. Having been in the Navy for years, needless to say I have seen the inside of my fair share of tattoo shops. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Go on the 23^rd of every month to get half off some great custom flash. They are constantly adding new pieces to choose from. I’ve gotten work done by Ross, Joe and Jeff. All have been great. Highly recommended.

I love this place. Truly. This time I got Joel. Its half off their flash day. (23^rd folks!) I wanted another rose. I wanted some changes (thank you Joel! You rule!) So I managed to want myself into a totally different tattoo. Joel redrew that bad boy lickity split and we were on our way. Its effing amazeballz. Yeah, I said it. Joel, you are fantastic guy! I love my new rose. Now I need one from Jeff and one from Jason (and y’all need to rename Ross to Jross so he fits in team J better) to get a complete set of roses.
Don’t worry, I’ll be back guys!

All of the guys are super cool, super friendly, and super talented. Clean shop, good location.
My go-​to artist is Joel and he has done an excellent job on the two tattoos he has done for me thus far. Extremely skilled and will take any idea you have and turn it into an amazing design.
Joel covered up one of the tattoos on my wrist with another and you can’t even tell!
I will certainly be back for the next!
