ROBOT is a piercing and tattoo studio in Portland, Oregon and we’ve been around since January 2005. In July 2008 we moved to a brand sparkling new location around the corner from our old NW 23rd location to something sexier on Westover RD. ROBOT strives to bring piercing and tattooing back to its punk-rock origins, and it’s all about beauty and self-expression through adornment. ROBOT is for nerds, run by nerds and owned by nerds.
Custom tattoos, top-notch piercing, and we have an obscene amount of jewelry for all your holes. You are invited to also shop online at www. mega-robot.com
History
Established in 2005.
Portland has some great shops. I should know, I worked at some of them. So when opportunity knocked (really hard) I was lucky enough to answer. The original Robot started with just one jewelry case in the back of a clothing store on NW 23rd. I had always looked down on shops in clothing stores but here I was, so I made do. The original store owner split and I found other vendors to share the outrageous rent and we created a goth mall. Through hard work and friendliness more and more people started coming to us. We got bigger. Eventually, a cooler and cheaper location opened up in the neighborhood that I had to have. The old landlady would not allow tattoos and I felt that was limiting our services, so we moved. My only regret about the current location is it’s lack of wheelchair accessibility but the heat and AC work, and we could offer tattooing, so all in all it was step up in the world. This year also marked our first «Robot Beauty Pageant», a contest we will do yearly.
Meet the Business Owner
Jon G.
Business Owner
I’ve been into this lifestyle as a professional piercer since 1992, and one thing I realized is that people want to be comfortable when getting a piercing or a tattoo. So here we are.
I’ve worked in London, NYC, SF, and LA in some great shops, and using my experiences I try to bring my fun attitude into a body art shop environment for the benefit of the people I work with and the customers. Hence the robots. They’re fun, they’re nerdy (I’m nerdy!) and apparently appealing to people. My crew are talented, and dorky, and we have no «pierc-itude» or «tat-itude».
I love jewelry in all forms so owning Robot is a good outlet for my collecting needs and I love it when people come in and find some treasure they had never seen before. I myself make some of the jewelry that we sell, as well as friend’s jewelry designs. We try and shop local.
So thank you loyal Robots, for all of your support. I could not have done it without you. :)
