Alchemy specializes in custom made jewelry including alternative and classic bridal. Our gallery & studio is the envy of jewelry artist everywhere. We utilize CAD software and 3D printing along with traditional smithing techniques to create your vision.

History

Established in 1990.

Alchemy originally started out as a wholesale tradeshop creating custom designs, repairs and expert metals casting services for the jewelry industry. In 2005 Alchemy seized the opportunity to open its own retail store in the Pearl District of downtown Portland. Today, Alchemy stands out as one of the few true jewelers in the Pacific Northwest to offer high quality services, award winning designers and in-​house metalsmithing.

I started my jewelry path back in 1969 cutting stones with my neighbor/​lapidist named Jean Wood. In 1970 I cast my first silver ring in a junior high school jewelry class. From that time, I worked as a journeyman fabricator/​welder in many metals like steel, aluminum, stainless steel, zinc, titanium and other exotic industry metals. In the 80’s I linked up with a rockhound/​gemstone importer, Oliver Kearns, who guided me into the jewelry industry. «This is my element… I’m a natural when it comes to metal and gemstones. We just moved here and live 3 blocks away. We went to visit them for the first time yesterday. I first met Sander and later he introduced me to the owner David. I am a good judge of character, I deal with people a lot in professional environments. I felt really good about both of them! You could tell they had hood hearts! In the jewelry business trust is everything. I really was impressed the fact that David is also a ‘Metallurgist’ that is rare! Although yesterday I was not in the market to purchase jewelry but wanted to find someone to clean our wedding rings to get this done may not be such a big deal but I have a ‘Perlee’ wedding ring from Van Cleef and Arpel and my wife’s ring… Over the top amazing. Bottom line is we are SUPER selective of who we allow to touch our rings! They did a great job and we have found our new jeweler! Yeah. We wish the best of success to Alchemy Jewelers. Oh, the first Thursday of every month they stay open late because they have a event, drinks, food, etc. Kind of a open house to welcome, and thank not just customers but potential customers and other business’s in the area. Tonight is the first Thursday if April. I hope to go with my lovely wife to participate in their event and say hello again to the staff their. :0)

Amazing! Needed a custom ring; beautiful work that far exceeded expectations, and the price seemed almost laughably low (perfectly reasonable.) 10⁄10 wouldn’t hesitate to return or refer a mother-​in-​law.

Wonderful customer service. Sander was very kind to my son and I; he fixed a necklace for my wife, free of charge and promptly. I offered to pay but he insisted against it. I truly appreciate great customer service and his stands out. I will certainly return and would recommend them without reservation.

Stumbled upon Alchemy while my now husband and I were looking for my engagement ring. I was very happy with the selection. Sander and the other people working were amazing to work with. So helpful, not pushy, gave me a wide variety of rings to try on since I didn’t have an exact ring I was looking for.
I found my ring that day and I absolutely love it. Even better was the main ring and one of the two bands were my size! I was able to take two of them home with me, and wait for the third to come which only took a week or two. Also ended up getting my husband’s ring here as well.
I recommend Alchemy to anyone I know looking for rings. Their mix of more traditional with less traditional makes it a place for all to check out. Did I think I would be getting gold ring with two black bands that go around it? Definitely not. But as soon as I saw it, I wanted it, and I absolutely love it.

My fiancé purchased my engagement ring from Alchemy and I absolutely love it. He was able to bring in a design he had drawn up based off of what I described and the jewelers at Alchemy were able to bring the drawing to life. It came out perfectly! I get compliments all the time. We have now gone back to design a ring for my fiancé and Sanders (owner/​jeweler) has been great throughout the entire process. He is very knowledgeable and fantastic to work with. Highly recommend!

After exploring multiple jewelry stores across Portland and Seattle, my then-​girlfriend, now-​fiancé, and I ended our engagement ring search at Alchemy. While the store would receive high reviews based on that fact alone, the staff at Alchemy also adds in unique offerings and excellent customer service for a five star experience. Sander was informative and friendly without being pushy — in addition to offering a great pizza restaurant suggestion! While we found the perfect Anne Sportun vintage engagement ring at Alchemy, the selection was so amazing that we were also able to find a matching wedding band in-​store as well. For anyone looking for a ring outside of the generic jewelers with an unforgettable buying experience, look no further than Alchemy Jeweler.

My fiancé and I visited Alchemy on a search for wedding bands. While we didn’t end up purchasing our rings from Alchemy, the service we received from Sander was superb. In the end, the price range was above our budget, but if you are able to spend a little more on fine jewellery, you’ll find unique pieces and great service at Alchemy!

I am so happy that we found this store during a vacation in Portland. My fiancé and I had looked at many wedding bands for him at other stores, but when we saw the Todd Reed bands, we knew our search was over. The staff are wonderful and helped us pick out a truly stunning ring that’s really a piece of art. They have many unique and beautiful pieces and I look forward to visiting them again.

I recently had some work done on my wedding ring at Alchemy and am so impressed with the results, and the whole experience from the minute I walked in the door. Brooke worked with me through the process and knew exactly what I wanted, and within a day I had feedback from the jeweler on how the redesign would be done, and a quote. They were extremely confident in explaining how they would do the work. I knew I was in good hands.
I just picked my ring up yesterday, earlier than scheduled which was another perk, and LOVE it. Such a beautiful job!
I would recommend Alchemy to anyone looking for fine, unique jewelry in the Portland area, and to anyone who values fantastic customer service. Thank you Brooke and David for being so great to work with.

I’m giving the entire staff ten stars (**********, my version anyway)!
My fiancé told me how helpful the staff was and how easy they made the the ring buying process for him so it didn’t take much convincing when he suggested we go back to look at wedding bands. Well, we also had to get the ring sized down a bit and I can’t imagine going anywhere else for our bands after my own experience with the staff. Not only did we get the ring sized correctly and extremely quickly, but the staff took the time to chat with us about our engagement story and help us try on wedding bands. I am very impressed with their customer service — top notch! I did not feel pushed AT ALL and felt my preferences for design and quality were carefully matched. The knowledge that Brooke has about each jeweler is fantastically helpful as well! Thank you Alchemy!

I discovered Alchemy on whim. I had a watch that needed to be sized and I was unable to return it to the manufacturer for repair. I was greeted immediately by Sanders who offered to take a look at my watch. Worried that i would get the cold shoulder because my requested service was less than crucial to their business, Sanders and Dave were incredibly friendly, personable and unpretentious. As I waited, I browsed the shop and noticed the wide selection of jewelry from a range of European and local jewelry designers. The entire time, Sanders was able to tell me about each designer, all of which use fair trade diamonds and source their materials back to origination. I don’t think I’ve ever had such personable, unobtrusive service while getting my jewelry repaired– truly offered genuine service at an exceptional value. I’ll definitely be back.

I never thought a place this nice and fancy would ever be so unpretentious. We came in to have our wedding rings made and they were so knowledgable and helpful. They worked well within our limited budget too which was another surprise. They completed our custom orders lightning quick and the service is top notch. I honestly don’t see why we would go anywhere else as long as I live in or near portland. Beautiful showroom with awesome selection of designer pieces. Don’t be intimidated just because its in the pearl district. These guys are one Of a kind and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I recently discovered Alchemy when I was trying to get my engagement ring sized. Due to the pave set diamonds on my band, most jewelers I went to did not want to touch it for fear of losening the diamonds. David was willing to size it as well as go in and add any additional metal to ensure that the diamonds were set tight and I would not have any problems with loosing them! Sander was wonderful to work with as well. I also had them appraise the ring, for insurance reasons, while it was there. They quoted me 10 days to have both services done and it was complete in 3!
Great shop, great customer service, I will definitely be going back for my wedding band!

This is the perfect spot to treat yourself. Alchemy is a treasure trove of unique pieces. Every time I visit I find something with which I fall in love. The jewelry is so memorable, and you end up with that, «I’ve got to have that» feeling. I now have two pairs of gorgeous earrings, as my fiancé and I are return customers. David, the owner, is wonderfully knowledgable and always greets us with a smile. Can’t wait to browse again.

As someone who really enjoys jewelry, this shop is a favorite… if you love quality jewelry and unique pieces that dazzle, don’t hesitate to visit. They generally host a nice First Thursday event, and worth a stop. I love the pieces I’ve purchased from them, and that includes originals from David and his partner Laura collaborating.

You will never see a machine mass producing jewelry. Infact David can work from concept, sketch to jewerly and it is beautiful!

And he is very generous with letting his clientele try on the many different pieces he has on show. Not only does he create original pieces but he has many pieces from other artists on display. He is also exceptionally talented with re-​creating jewels from pieces that are no longer loved in their present state.
