Coming from 11 years of service writing and automotive repair, I take personal pride in finding new ways to deliver the expected and unexpected for my customers. From insuring the quality of every job to educating our customers and keeping them posted, my responsibility is to make sure everyone leaves happy.

Aside from my obsession of building the perfect automotive service, I am heavily involved in the Portland Poetry Slam and read quite often. When I’m not at home, I indulge in outdoor activities like hiking, and rock climbing!

I’m so happy to have found a trustworthy and pleasant auto repair shop very close to my neighborhood! Both times I’ve taken my Subaru in, Mo (the owner) quoted me a reasonable estimate, but then beat that price.
Mo’s customer service and communication are both excellent and it is very clear that he runs a clean and tidy business. It was a fantastic bonus that he was also able to give me a ride home while they had my car. Like other reviewers have said; it feels like they care, which feels good.
I recommend this business to everyone!

If you’re looking for work to be done on your car, from suspension to a check engine light you need diagnosed, or serious jobs like head gaskets, Columbia Autoworks is the best choice. They are extremely thorough and attentive, and also good at talking you through the work they’ve done. They won’t add work on that you don’t need, and they won’t let things pass by that need to be done. In an industry where trust is hard to give, you can totally trust Mo and the crew!

My experience with Columbia Autoworks was top notch! Mo was very knowledgable and helped me sift through my options for repairs, with very competitive prices! I have had other instances with mechanics that try to sell me the whole shebang rather than the things I really need, but this one was nothing like that. Due to this honesty, I intend on returning to the shop when I need my next repair. I suggest you do the same!

Fantastic service, & here’s why: These people are problem solvers. Do not underestimate the gift they possess. The bonus? They’ve great people skills as well.
Take your car in & they will map a plan of attack suited to your particular vehicular distress.
Seriously though you’ll notice right off the cuff a no BS air in communications & a rare patience, which not unlikely feeds their analysis skills.
I was ready to give up on my vehicle till they explained a couple of less dire options.
Oh! Did I mention they’re service is FAST! You’ll likely make an appointment, but soon be on your way assured that you’ve money well spent.

I took the car in to get the fan for the heat/​cooling fixed. They gave me a ride home so I didn’t have to call a cab or try to find a car2go, which saved me some $$ and time. 2 things you don’t expect to walk away with when you’re dealing with a car repair.
A couple hours later they sent me a photo when they found a dead mouse was the cause of the fan malfunction; mostly I think, because they figured I would find that pretty funny. I thought that was such a simple but powerful gesture that really made this local shop feel like they actually care about their customers as real people instead of just a paycheck.
It gets better! So I arrive to pick up my car and they actually walked me through what they found and how they fixed it instead of just tossing the keys at me like other places do. Then they went over a list of other things they checked out while they were in there.
When I dropped it off, I might have mentioned some other goofy noises the car was making and they were like «yeah it was slow in the shop today so we just took a peek at some of that stuff while we were working on your car and made a list for you.»
WHAT?! they just had a few extra minutes and decided to help me out by letting me know what other things were wrong with my car?!? No charge? just. because. they. had. a. few. extra. minutes? What kind of mechanic does that? A local one who actually cares about the people they work with, that’s who.
I left the shop with my warm car (no more driving with the window down in the pouring rain to keep the window from foggin up for this lady!) and now, a week later, a still can’t get over what a great experience that was.
I truly can’t recommend these guys highly enough!

This is a really great shop. Customer service is great. They are super helpful and fast in getting back to me on my diagnosis of my car. When we moved to Portland, we asked around for a good mechanic and Columbia Autoworks came up trice, from two separate individuals. So we decided to give them a try and took our 2001 Subaru Outback wagon in because it wouldn’t pass emissions.
Having had bad experiences with various mechanic shops over the years, we were pleasantly surprised with Columbia Autoworks! The owner, Mo, was very responsive, courteous, helpful, and most of all, trustworthy and fair. He quickly and efficiently diagnosed our car, explained things to us in simple terms, and gave us a very fair price on the work performed. Our car passed emissions with flying colors!
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Columbia Autoworks and return anytime we need service or repairs.
Bonus points for their co-​op program and community classes!

I originally found Columbia Autoworks via Craigslist a year or so ago. The experience I previously had was positive so when my VW Golf started over heating I figured I’d give them another shot. The first impression I had with this company is that they expanded greatly since I had first discovered them. Lots of new equipment compared to the almost empty shop I walked into almost a year ago.
The service manager Mo, took the keys from me and told me they would get to my car sometime mid-​day. I had a complete diagnosis with pictures (on my phone) within the end of my work day. The news however was bad — the head gasket was leaking internally and caused the radiator hose to blow. This was a high price tag fix, but the service manager was attentive to supplying me enough proof to pull the trigger confidently.
3 days later and my car was ready to go! Along with a new timing belt, water pump, and valve cover gasket. I did the job complete as recommended, and I feel like I’ve breathed new life into my car! Money well spent.

Awesome and super fast! We called after work on a Wednesday and it was done by me afternoon Thursday. Had our clutch, a cylinder and some other stuff that goes with that done.
Price was more then fair and we left extremely satisfied. We actually had the work done months ago but I forgot to review until out other car had a issue and I went to google them :) so that’s a good sign that nothing went wrong with their repair (which has happened to us before with other mechanics.

I was nervous about where to take my car in Portland because I hadn’t had any work done on it here yet, and my friend suggested this place. I’m SO GLAD that she did! They were thorough but also quick in figuring out the problem (and fixing it), explained to me exactly what was wrong and what needed to be done, and didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need. They charged me exactly what they quoted and finished the work by the time they said they would. They also gave me an awesome deal, way better than I expected for the work they did. They are honest, know what they’re doing, have great service, and don’t over charge. I definitely suggest checking them out.

Lately I’ve experienced good fortune with getting my car taken care of, something that I’ve also found stressful in the past. My Subaru (Impreza) wasn’t acting right and I’m completely car illiterate; I know there’s oil and magic involved. A friend of mine recommended Columbia Autoworks, knowing that I try to give local guys a chance, so long as there isn’t a pitbull guarding the entrance.
I called and was able to come in pretty quickly (no pitbull) and told them that I didn’t know what was happening, but the engine seemed to be acting weird, reving erratically. The guy I spoke with (the owner, I think) seemed pretty confident that it was a timing belt issue and one of his mechanics promptly confirmed the diagnosis. I wanted to get another quote, just to see if there was any major price disparity, but ultimately confirmed (thanks, Internet) that it seemed to be fair and average.
They finished my car within the quoted time and viola! No more sounds of impending doom, like I’m going to be launched into orbit (without my consent). It seems like they have a good (and efficient) mechanic and there weren’t any surprise charges, something I’m always nervous about. Overall, I’m really satisfied and feel good for supporting one of the little guys!

I brought in my little old Toyota corolla today since I was concerned about the ticking noise it made when I made my sharp turns to the right. Long story short I hit a curb and my friend who also hit a curb didn’t take care of the problem right away ended up costing more in the future. So although I didn’t really hit it as badly as my friend I just wanted to make sure I don’t get to that point so I had them look at it.
The service was great. They asked me what brings me in and made sure to check everything; not just that front right wheel that I was concerned about. Thankfully there were no major issues. They were very informative about what’s going with my car and what may need to be fixed in the future but as of right now there was no major need to repair anything. I made it clear I’d rather fix anything now that may cost more in the future but they assured me that any of the very minor problems I have will not cost more in the future. They did also make sure to let me know when I should be concerned such as certain sounds… Only thing that they recommended fixing is the motor mount sometimes with the next 6 months, otherwise my car was fine and I was just worried over nothing!
Thankfully they had very reasonable prices and are very honest. They could have just told me I had so many problem that needed to be «fixed». I tend to notice most mechanics like to walk over the lady customers because they are clueless (which I am!!). Again, I am grateful that they were honest with me AND that my car really doesn’t have any major problems.
At the end of the service they basically gave me a paper report of my cars evaluation. This store may be a bit hard to find at first, but just know they are on the corner of Columbia and 21st!

I called them and asked if they could help me with my van problems and they said yes but they were so backed up that they wouldn’t be able to even look at it for another 5 days so I said ok and they told me they would call me on Monday. Monday rolled around and they never called so I tried calling them over the next few days leaving messages every time but still no call back. THEY COMPLETELY IGNORED ME FOR NO GOOD REASON! This was a total waste of time and energy. I could have taken it somewhere else and had it fixed by now. If there this unresponsive to a new customer imagine how they might be if you’re trying to get your car back. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!!!
