The bay is a nice place to spend time during the summer. Nothing pairs better with time spent outside in the heat than some homemade ice cream. Douglas and James is my favorite ice cream place in the Queens/Long Island area. This time, I got their Vanilla Swiss Almond on a cookie cone. I can also vouch for their cake batter! Overall, this place is wonderful.

Disclaimer: I had not had ice cream in months but I was treating myself for my birthday. So I doubt I would have given a bad review to ANY ice cream place. I sampled the maple walnut(yum) and Almond Joy(ditto). I didn’t want to drive the server nuts asking for more samples, so I settled on the Almond Joy: coconut ice cream with chunks of chocolate and almonds. Rich and good. My partner had the birthday cake ice cream, which has jimmies and cake frosting mixed in. Good, but a little too sweet for my tastes. The server was friendly, which is always a plus for me. Also, there was no line when we got there – also a plus. Located near the water a short distance from the main shopping area of Port Washington.

Amazing home made ice-cream! I had the mocha chunk and the brownie chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone and it was so delicious! The staff was very happy, which made the whole experience so much better, and they let us try as many flavors as we wanted — and my gosh, they were all so good! I had a hard time choosing! I cannot wait to go back and get some more ice cream from here — def my new fav go to ice cream shop! There is parking in the back of the shop. There is seating inside and there are benches outside. We took our ice cream and walked to the benches after Louie’s Bar and Grill to sit by the water and it was a perfect day to enjoy the water and have ice cream. I will definitely be coming back, but just be aware it is cash only. They do have an ATM machine but it wasn’t working today — thankfully we had cash! It costs us approximately ten bucks for two waffle cones with two scoops each of ice cream. That is kind of pricey for ice cream but it is worth it once in a while =)

MAPLEWALNUTICECREAM. You can’t leave without trying this. Ok besides the maple walnut I had at Cows in Canada(home of the maple), I think this was the best maple walnut ice cream I’ve had to date. The other flavors were GOOD, and my friends really enjoyed the cookie cone, but when I took a bite of the maple walnut, I was in ice cream heaven. The ice cream was super flavorful and creamy, and really brought the maple walnut taste to life. This is the perfect dessert place if you’re getting dinner in the area or if you just have a sweet tooth and are craving some amazing ice cream. Highly recommended!!!

Pretty good ice cream shop/café in Port Washington that’s best to come to in spring and fall. Summer time can be too crowded and seating is limited and uncomfortable. They don’t normally have any interesting new flavors but the ice cream it self is well done. They only some times have soft serve as well. They seem to only have new flavors and soft serve in the summer but the crowds make coming here aggravating. Prices are lower than Carvel though and if the weather is nice, take it to go and enjoy the scenery of Manhasset Bay.

Amazing ice cream at a beautiful location. Perfectly creamy, flavorful & fresh. So many different types of cones– wafer, sugar, waffle cones with or without chocolate & sprinkles. Fun place to visit for all ages, and as an added bonus, you can enjoy your ice cream treat overlooking the harbor in Port Washington.

Delicious! The best ice cream in town. I love the maple walnut ice cream. The venue is decorated very nicely old school items. They also have a good candy selection and you can get a hot chocolate.

great place to come to with the family, too bad this place is only a seasonal thing. Staff is super friendly and seem to love being there as well.

Best mint chip ice cream I ever had! It was so good I had to give them a compliment before I left the shop. Friendly service and awesome deco on top of delicious ice cream. What more can you ask for!

Columbian Coffee flavor was the best coffee ice cream I’ve ever tried. I’m an ice cream connoisseur. Trust me on this one. Flavors also ordered by my cousin and me — mocha chunk, cookies and cream, and chunky doughboy delight. Also, even though the line was insane, the staff didn’t rush us and was so warm. Can’t wait to return, grab some ice cream, and watch the sunset right next door.

Really cute ice cream shop in Port Washington. On a weekend night in August, its always packed with a very long line. They advertise that its all home made. Walking in, I was skeptical. I hate lines so much. However the line moved pretty quickly. There was even a water cooler for free cups of water which was nice. Even though it was so crowded, you could tell the place had a nice old timey décor with antique things around. The young staff was so fast and really did make everything quick and efficient. My boyfriend got vanilla soft serve. I was really unimpressed with it. Just didn’t have the creamy taste. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. I had a cup of Oreo hard ice cream. It was SOGOOD. Best Oreo ice cream I’ve ever had. It was so creamy and delicious. They gave me a very appropriate portion for the small. Bill came out to around $ 7 which i thought was a good price. Good job ! I was skeptical and you proved me wrong :)

Really good home made ice cream, and nice thick shakes. Beware though, if you’re only going to be eating soft serve you’re better off somewhere else. I can’t speak for the vanilla but the chocolate soft serve is truly disappointing, even unpleasant. Their traditional hard ice creams are good though!

AMAZZZING! I love my ice cream, and this place is just top of the line! I am a huge fan of Haagen Daz(rich and creamy) and this place is wayyyy better than anything Haagen Daz can create. They allow you to sample the flavors(always a plus) and they are patient with you if you cant make up your mind and want to sample a bunch of flavors. In the end I went with the Vanilla chunk and Chunky Doughboy delight in a waffle cone. It was heavenly! I felt like a chunky doughboy after but it was soo worth it! If your in town, stop by! Hurry up because they will soon be closing for the season though! Oh also there is chairs and tables here, so you can come with friends or family and sit back, relax and enjoy the frozen deliciousness!

This place is great! Had the cookies and cream with sprinkles on a sugar cone. Definitely a decent texture and great taste. They also sell candy which is a nice touch, definitely try this place out!

Homemade ice cream on Main Street in Port Washington is a blast of kool in the summer time. This is a very friendly shop and quaint to boot. They serve coffee ice cream shakes and the service is great. There’s seating inside and out and the place is adorable. I come here after lunch and get a second dessert. The almond joy ice cream and cherry vanilla was Yummylicious.

Its rare in these parts of the woods to find a «homemade ice cream» shop. You have usual ice cream shops that just don’t feel very friendly(pardon the pun). So when you find one, well you embrace it. It has all the things you expect from an ice cream place: sundaes, shakes, sift serve, sprinkles, etc. And then it has some unique flavors and toppings. The last time I visited, I shared two scoops of the Belgium chocolate on a waffle cone with my wife. It was so buttery and chocolately good(yes, I made up a word for how good it was). My favorite part is taking a stroll along the water while enjoying your treat. Its really a good place for the sweet tooth craving or for the family looking to enjoy a tasty treat. They do not take cards, so be mindful of that.
