Description

Specialties

We are a small mom & pop motel catering to fishermen and families. We have 7 standard rooms with small fridge, microwave and coffee. Most with 2 double beds, but we do have a bunk room for families. 3 of our rooms are full kitchen units. The largest has 4 beds with a max capacity of 6 guests, the medium has one double and one single bed and the smallest full kitchen has one queen bed.

We offer a free boat wash area and fish cleaning station as well as plenty of boat and trailer parking.

Our rooms are small, but exceptionally clean, with heat & air, cable TV (most new flat screens.)

We can welcome your pet in 2 of our rooms. One a full kitchen and one a standard. Our rates change with the seasons, but are always reasonable.

History

Established in 1956.

The Dixie Belle has been a continuously operating motel since the mid fifties. It has always been family owned. We are Dan and Michele McDonough, owners since 2002 and we are currently researching the history of the Dixie Belle for inclusion on the National Historic Register.

The Dixie Belle was only closed after hurricane Opal when the water rose chest high in the rooms. The owner at that time kept the insurance money for himself and the repairs made were at his lowest possible cost. You will see for yourself when you visit some of the areas where he cut corners, but Dan and I are doing our best to make sure the rooms are clean, attractive, functional and comfortable for our guests.

Six of our 10 rooms now have new flat screen TVs. All standard rooms have a small fridge, microwave and coffee.

Meet the Business Owner

Michele L.

Business Owner

I was raised In Atlantic City, NJ where I worked as a runway model until I was approaching 30, then trained as a casino dealer for the 1978 opening of Resorts International Casino. After rising to a dual rate pit boss position, health problems necessitated my leaving the casino business temporarily. During this time, I became a real estate sales person and income tax preparer. I returned to become a casino scheduling manager in Lake Charles, LA and eventually retired to the hardest job of all… owning and operating a motel for the past 12 years.
