Excellent sandwiches & very good service. Had lunch there on a Friday, surprised there was not a big crowd there. Very nice market and place for lunch. Plenty of seating. Very clean and spacious. Great business, looks to be a lack of clientele in the area? Will eat there again when in area.

A great find in Pontiac downtown.

This place is very good. They have nice iced tea and most importantly, great sandwiches (AND THEY DELIVER!) … The Tree Hugger is my favorite. My friends tried the Reuben which they loved as well as the Saginaw, which they also liked.
The kale salads are awesome & the customer service is great. And don’t forget to try the in-​house made chips… Great and not too salty. :)

I held my sister’s baby shower here this past weekend and everyone had such a nice time!
Food: We went with a simple menu; soup, salad and sandwiches, but the food was anything but simple. The presentation was great and the taste was even better! I asked for the soup to be a version of a popular restaurants soup and the Market’s version blew the original away! I was so impressed that the Chef took the time out to taste the original before recreating it and with the final product.
Space: Because of the large windows and high ceilings, the space was so open and airy and far nicer than a stuffy banquet hall. They let us come in early to decorate the tables and used their florist and everything was just beautiful.
Service: The Event Director Julie was fantastic to work with! She thought about all of the details we forgot, and had the tables and everything all set up before we arrived. The Market Kitchen Staff made sure the food table was never empty and took care of everything so we could just enjoy our day with our friends and family.
I highly recommend their catering service for any event!

What a beautiful place in a great little downtown. I wish more people would discover this little gem. I work in Pontiac and find myself craving the tomato soup and the caprese sandwich often. A great selection of Michigan made products, a very cool outdoor café space, but equally cool indoor space. From the amount of development chatter I hear about Pontiac, I think it’s only a matter of time before this place has a lot of company downtown…

A mutual friend took us here for lunch one afternoon and while I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food I felt like it was good but not very interesting. Will you like eating lunch here? Yes. Will you go home and drag your friends back for more later? Probably not.

Really excellent place to grab a quick bite or sit down and do a little work on the computer. I have eaten sandwiches, soups, and grabbed a few groceries for the office here, and it’s convenient, quick, and staff are friendly. My only recommendation would be to get a fancier coffee set up.

I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon and the place definitely was not busy. This business is a nice neighborhood deli /​restaurant /​grocery store. They have a nice layout, open and airy. Their food stock looked fresh, and they have a couple soups for their daily offerings.
Street parking out front should accommodate any customer crush they might have here.

Lafayette Market happens to be very conveniently located for me, so I feel very blessed that they serve up an AMAZING club sandwich. It’s a club sandwich so good that it made me question why I haven’t considered ordering more in the past. They also have an amazing kale and sausage soup, one of many soups that are housemade. Aside from their everyday café menu, however, the BEST thing about Lafayette Market is the Friday lunch and dinners during the summer with live music and grill items. No better place to be in all of metro Detroit than on the patio at LM, listening to live music and eating fresh food served up from the grill! Looking forward to next summer already!

I love the Lafayette Market. The café has delicious food and the grocery and beer prices are very reasonable. It is obvious that the owners and staff are very committed to the community. For me this is the anchor of downtown Pontiac. I hope eventually they can be open on Sunday all year.

I work in Pontiac so I often go here to pick up groceries and grab lunch. It’s a beautiful market with great ownership. They even have music and cookouts on Fridays. It’s great to see a new business in Pontiac. My fave part is there café. They have great sandwiches and wonderful soups.

Love this place! Great food paninis salads and coffee us just awesome. Great service also. Pontiac is blessed to have a market & café of this calibre.

Kind of a hip place with a mix mix of folks working and living in the area, in the middle of downtown Pontiac. Very friendly people working there too.
Great fresh salads made quickly to order at lunch time. Love the Asian salad, loaded with Wasabi peas.
Market has everything one could think of in a small downtown market. Fresh produce, Nutella, PopTarts, milk, espresso, bananas, packaged european cookies.
Lunched there twice. Now that the outside patio is open and Friday music is about to begin, will need to go again and again.

Upscale yet friendly moderate priced sandwiches and groceries. The fresh meat is over the moon good. The sandwiches are larger than normal and very tasty. Free WiFi and great to people watch as they have a snack bar out front. I like the well lit parking lot and ease of running in to get an item if in a hurry. Good beer prices on their market 6 packs. Give it try!

Since finding this little gem, we have visited here quite often. The food and coffee in their café are excellent! It is a small market, but I have been able to find pretty much anything we are looking for. We usually come here for our meat purchases as the meat looks very good and tastes good as well. It’s fun to come here, grab a coffee and watch the traffic on Saginaw.
I agree, the hours are not the best. For some reason we always get here an hour before they close and most of the meat is put away. There is always someone in the meat department though and they are more than willing to get whatever it is you are looking for. Love it!

Will you forgive me if I forgive you?
You might not have hours I love. You might not have an espresso machine in your café (yet?) You might have sold me a bum lotto ticket… But truly, you are a delicious place. The meats are fantastic. You sell our favorite brand of flatbread. You have some of our favorite red wine… You are close, convenient, and carry a surprising selection of little things that make my life a little easier, a little tastier.
Lafayette Market keeps bringing me back. Friendly staff, gorgeous produce, excellent location. I take back what I said about not remembering it’s there; how could I forget? It’s fast becoming the only way I do groceries in Pontiac. Four stars.

A very cool and clean place to get a quick bite…

The recently opened Lafayette Market (along with the lofts attached to it) roared in downtown Pontiac in a much needed investment for the business district and the city as a whole. Having passed by it numerous times, I decided to check it out for myself. I went there with my mom on a weekend and near closing hours so I can’t say much about the café inside (I’m sure it’ll be popular during the lunch hours) so my review will be mostly on the grocery aspect. I must say I had low expectations but I was surprised with the selection in this small market. There are plenty of the basics you’d find in a full-​service grocer (eggs, bread, milk, etc) along with specialty items (hummus, Euro fruit preserves, etc) and other items in between. There’s also a full butcher inside and from what I saw, the cuts of meat are of high-​quality — though quite expensive as well.
The best part of LM in my opinion is the produce. It’s a bit small however the fruit offered was of great quality, better than the produce I’ve seen in bigger stores like Kroger. Little to no bruising on the apples, grapes that weren’t smashed, and bananas that were neatly stacked away instead of thrown on top of one another. Again a tiny bit higher in price but with the quality, it was worth it. The alcohol section is also top notch with your brand names like Arbor Mist, to more sophisticated selections of wine.
As for service, we were greeted with a smile and the check out process was fast but friendly.
The only things that could improve Lafayette Market would be to brighten up the inside a bit more; it was a bit dark but that could be the nature of the building (it was a former Sears) and the modern décor. I also think the overall price of some items like the household section and the meats could be lowered a bit to be more affordable. Hopefully LM will sort these out in due time since they just opened. It would be great for them to start a sales paper and maybe offer a discount for seniors.
All in all, I’ll return and buy my produce and other specialty items needed at LM from now on. This market has great potential with some of the recent economic activity in Pontiac and as someone who wants to see their hometown succeed, I’ll make sure to spread the word for others to visit this fine grocery store.
