Pompano Beach Pier

This pier is very nice to fish on. The only problem is that there are rarely any fish! Oh well, I guess you can’t blame that on the pier.
Parking is easier here than most beaches. There is great lighting on the pier that actually increases when you walk pass the lamps. There are not too many die hard fishermen that seem to usually frequent these piers while drinking and acting obnoxious. I can not stress the last part enough… Those types of people really rub me the wrong way.
This is one of the best fishing piers in the area. However, you shouldn’t fish here if you sincerely hope to catch anything. If you want to catch a lot of fish, I’d suggest going to the Florida Keys and getting a charter boat for the day.

After a letting our feet get wet on the beach, we made our way over to this pier. There’s a concessions stand, where we purchased a bottle of water because it is not easy walking on sand lol
How relaxing and beautiful. The feeling just takes over. It was in the evening when the sun was cooling off and the breeze just took over. It was so entertaining watching people fishing, and actually catching pretty big descent sized fish.
While looking down into the water you can see hundreds of little fish. The view is also a great watch. We sat for a few hours just people watching and having laughs at the birds stealing the bait from the fishermen. With the amount of people on the pier it was actually very peaceful, no loud talking, or music, nothing. Just really peaceful. Love it!

I come to this pier at least twice a week, im really into fishing and this is probably the only free pier in Florida that I know of, I barely catch anything but I see other people catch loads of fish, so I know they’re here. The pier got re-​done recently with new rails and fences. Im just bummed that they dont finish the end part so I cant fish deeper waters. TIP: there is a kwik stop on the way to the pier on Atlantic Blvd. They sell bait there thats more fresh than the bait store next door, and its the same price, 4 $.

Pretty pier that spans a long way. Admission is free. It is always full of people, whether they’re just walking, or fishing there. People will stand around fishing for hours. There are benches, if this is something you want to do. It is always interesting to peer into the fishermen’s buckets to see what they have caught.
There are washing stations at the end of the pier, in case you want to rinse your fish, or cut your bait up. At night, it is nicely lit. Folks on the pier tend to be friendly, or keep to themselves, I have never experienced any perverts or weirdos. There are always birds flying around, such as pelicans or seagulls, to add on to the pretty scenery. The smell of the cut up fish attracts them. In addition, this is a great place to stand and look west to see the sun setting behind the condo buildings or just for people watching on Pompano Beach. There is always a pleasant breeze, and views of the City of Fort Lauderdale and City of Pompano skylines.

Spent time at the pier fishing and snapping photos. You don’t need a fishing license to fish off the pier and there’s restrooms and concession if you need it. The locals like George and Chris are full of fishing stories and fishing information! Really enjoyable chatting it up with them. In the evening the pier is lit up and there’s benches so it’s good for night fishing and a walk. Very enjoyable. The homeless fish later in the evening for food but we weren’t troubled by anyone the 4 days we fished there day or night.

Very nice FREE pier unlike deerfield beach pier. I love the snack stand for easy fulfillment of my popsicle craving.
My negative about going here is that the beach’s water can be insanely choppy with copious amounts of seaweed and pieces of jellyfish. I always get stung by floating tentacles here and covered in the annoying seaweed and leaves.

I’ve found my new favorite stretch of beach! Public restrooms that aren’t awful (during the day!), a huge expanse of sand so plenty of room to spread out, and it’s not right on a busy street. There’s a buffer zone between the beach and A1-​A so you don’t get all that traffic noise like in Fort Lauderdale, with parking directly in front of the beach. Playground for the kiddos if you got ‘em. Fishing Pier, and shops close by if you’re hungry or want a change of scenery. We love it!

Great place to fish and enjoy the ocean. I get to work right nearby sometimes, so I always make it a point to stop by and enjoy the scenery.

A great place to spend a day at the beach.
Not crowded.
An easy to walk pier that extends out far enough that you cannot see bottom when looking over the rail.
Parking that is near and plentiful (with the exception of beautiful Sundays).
A concession stand with a decent selection of cold drinks… including beer!
Reasonable parking fees.
Grassy stretches for setting up your chairs and canopy tents.
Barbecue pits are available as well as picnic tables.
My only observation for improvement would be keeping the restrooms in better condition. It doesn’t appear to be so much of a maintenance issue as it is a patron abuse issue. Most of the restroom area (s) are presentable but then there is that one that just makes you wonder about the person (s) who needs to leave his «mark» on the place.
However, I want to leave this on a positive note…
So, visit the Pompano Beach Pier. Relax; sit back; gaze out over the blue water with the birds floating over the sand. Enjoy a Laspada’s sandwich and a cold beer. And you know, everything is alright in the world… at least for that bit of time.

I visited the Pompano Beach Pier, specifically the beach surrounding it, last weekend and enjoyed the company a bunch of Unilocalers, and a ton of food. Initially, when I heard we would be gathering at the Pompano Pier I was a little nervous. I used to live pretty close to here and would attend the beach semi regularly, but it was when the whole pier area was under construction and things were really a confusing mess, but I could tell there was potential.
We arrived before noon on a Sunday to find the closer beach lots east of A1A totally full, so I circled back around and found a pretty empty lot a little south of the bank and west of A1A. Parking was reasonably priced (not like Boca beaches. those parking prices are ridiculous). and it wasn’t much of a walk to the beach.
We arrived to a reserved area a little south of the pier as a member of our group had come early to make sure we had a grill. We were a little back from the beach on a grassy spot with a grill and a picnic table. There is a world of difference now compared to a year or two back when I used to come here. Everything is well landscaped and I actually enjoyed having the grassy area to picnic as opposed to trying to eat and get all sandy. The bathrooms were relatively clean as well.
As beaches in the area go I would highly recommend this beach, especially over Ft. Lauderdale Beach where parking is a nightmare and I find the crowd to be a little bit annoying. Though Pompano Beach doesn’t have the strand of restaurants that Ft Lauderdale does, there is a snack bar, and plenty of room to grill and picnic if you plan ahead and get there a little earlier in the day to reserve a spot. and let’s be honest, those Ft Lauderdale beach restaurants are overpriced and not that great, I’d rather eat my own food anyway.

After spending Sunday here for a fabulous UYE I’m a huge fan of this beach!
This was my first time to Pompano Beach Beach lol, and came away impressed. Parking wasn’t the best, but wasn’t anything near as bad as Fort Lauderdale Beach. We managed to find a public parking lot just south of the Wells Fargo on A1A and although we had a bit of a hike to our meeting spot it really wasn’t bad at all — I’d rather park quickly and walk before circling around miserably for 2 hours any day.
Someone (Thanks Gary!) came out early, ~8am, to grab us a spot with a grill. He managed to get us the perfect spot with a picnic table, grill, big grassy area, close to the volleyball courts and right next to the bathrooms and showers. Keep in mind that these grill areas will get snagged up early, so if you’re really counting on it, arrive early.
The beach itself was busy but nowhere near as packed at Fort Lauderdale gets, and there is lots of room to spread out your towels without getting too close to anyone else. Personally, I loved that we were back away from the beach and up on the grass and were able to lay out without getting all sandy. I don’t mind sand if the water is warm enough to wash off, but it’s February and I wasn’t getting wet!
I didn’t get the chance to experience the pier itself, but it looked great from a distance and everyone raves about how nice it is.

This beach used to be one of my regular spots when I lived further south. Sometimes, I’ll make the trip to come here anyway, as it is still one of my favorites. It gets crazy busy during season, so come early if you want the best parking spots. However, if you don’t find a parking spot right up front near the beach, don’t fret! There’s ample parking, even if you have to park across A1A. It’s literally only a few minutes walk from the parking lot. The signs to these parking lots could be a lot bigger though!
Currently, it’s $ 1.25/hour in the beach lots. You can pay with coins, bills or even with a debit/​credit card. That makes it extremely convenient when you forget cash, which I have done several times. You don’t even have to put the ticket on your dash, keep it with you as a reference to what time you need to leave by or refill the meter if you are staying.
I think it’s an excellent measure. If you think about it, vandals might pick out a car that has an expiration time of a few hours left because you aren’t expected back any time soon. If they don’t have any idea as to how much time you paid for, then they might not want to take the chance you will return at any minute.
I believe this location is relatively safe during the day though. At night, it’s a different story. I wouldn’t come here at night. I have only come here once at night. The super moon was rising above the horizon and I wanted to get pictures. A really drunk guy approached me and wouldn’t go away. He followed me up and down the pier, talking the entire time. Even though he seemed harmless, I was about to hit him with my tripod. Thankfully, there was another guy with a camera/​tripod set up, so I just started a conversation about pictures with him. The drunk guy went away! Just in case though, he walked me to my car. We’re still friends today. So, no more trips to this pier at night for me!
Restaurants are within walking distance. If you want a quick snack, a concession stand is right on the pier with bathrooms on the side of it. There are also bathrooms up and down the beach. The bathrooms always seem to be in satisfactory condition any time I have ever used them. The beach is clean with lifeguards on duty.
The only downside to this beach is the brown water on occasion. Pardon my ignorance, but I believe it is due to the release of freshwater from the waterways (canals, etc.) and it causes the murky, brown coloration. In the past six or so years that I have been coming here, I have only seen it that color approximately three times. It isn’t dirty and clears out after a while. There are other beaches that are almost consistently clear, but I’ll take my chances with this beach any day!

This beautiful pier is located in the newly renovated, new and improved Pompano Beach. Not only it free to walk on or fish from, the gorgeous landscape and sightseeing views it offers are priceless. The pier is well maintained, it offers public rest rooms and a snack shop, also there is plenty of metered parking.

This is my favorite beach that we’ve been to since we’ve lived here. I wish we lived closer.
What I really like about this beach, is the total lack of commercial activity. There are no restaurants or gimmicky tourist shops. The condos sit a little further back from the water.
I’ve got to admit, I was disappointed to hear a planning committee discussing putting up two restaurants. There is a nice little snack shop that has sandwiches, soda and beer, in case you need a nibble.
I don’t like that many of our beaches make you pay a fee just to walk out on the pier, even if you’re not going to fish and are only going to be there for a few minutes. This one doesn’t do that. You can go out, fish or not, spend as much time as you like.
There were also no big icky tankers spoiling the view of the water. Everything was clean and tidy. If you just want the true beauty of the beach, this is the place to go.

I came to Pompano Beach Pier a few months ago as part of a media tour to see all the fantastic upgrades the city is doing to the beach. At that time, I didn’t get to walk on the pier as we were on a tight schedule, but we did check out the work out station with an amazing view of the beach! The workout station is off to the right of the entrance of the pier, and really is a great set up.
I ended up on the pier a somewhat chilly Sunday afternoon with the little lady. We decided to head East and take a stroll on the beach. As I began driving down A1A, in Ft. Lauderdale, I threw out the idea of continuing North to Pompano. She said sure, and off we were.
Parking is nice and easy, at least at this time of the day it was. Plenty of pay to park spaces in the lot right across the street. At the very entrance of the pier there is a store selling sodas, snacks and beers. As we walked down the pier I looked around and thought, «Man, this is SO NICE, I literally live minutes from the ocean.» We checked out the scene a bit, took some obligatory Instagram photos (#ilivewhereyouvacation) and continued down.
Towards the end of the pier there were at least 20 people fishing. I was scared I’d get caught on their hooks as they were casting. Didn’t see anyone catch anything but a less than friendly crow scored a shrimp tail — and went to town on it.
The very end of the pier was closed, but I’d love to come back and see it completely refurbished and be able to look out into the ocean. The views from mid pier over the ocean was beautiful though and at the risk of sounding all philisophical, it really put into perspective how massive this world (and how terrifying the ocean) is.

Actually I didn’t think this beach would be this nice… I was wrong! Its beautiful here!

They have really brought this beach back to life. I have been going here since I was a young child, and I just took my daughter for her first beach experience today. It was clean, there was a shower area, and a great playground… I don’t remember some of these things as a kid. You can also rent cabanas and umbrellas now too… a nice option!

Unlike some other piers (I’m talking to you, Commercial Blvd!), this one is completely free for sightseeing and for fishing. There is ample parking that is quite reasonable at 50 cents per hour. Wander out a bit and you can get some fantastic views of the beach and the surf or maybe catch a fisherman reeling in a fish!
The fishing, I understand, isn’t so great. One fisherman caught a sea turtle and had to walk it all the way back to the beach to release it into the surf.

It was a perfect November in South Florida. So this morning I wake up determined to go surfing, and that I did. Thanks to surfer Bobby and his extra surf board (6’8) I was able to paddle up and ride my first real wave in (boogie board style but nonetheless I accomplished without a wipeout) success. Finally I wave worth remembering in South Florida. I was prompted to my riveting surf adventure and found that they have free surf lessons all over this beach and some even provide boards. Its always fun to surf around other surfers. This particular day was absolutely perfect, the water was just right and the swells weren’t too crazy. I was able to ‘Flip’ some surfers out with my HD video recording of the wacky surfer kids.
