The shopping mall across from my Church has pretty much everything; Anthony’s Coal Fired OR Carrabba’s(I’ve always felt weird going to eat in a restaurant that sounds like Barrabas, hey, it’s Lent and that’s me), a Walmart, Ross, Bealls and even a rather tony Stein Mart — it’s rocking! Lo’ and behold there is also this lovely Christian bookstore. I wish I had some extra $ to make some purchases, but I’m glad it’s there because they had a few books as well as religious art I found rather lovely. Surprisingly, and maybe it’s the times, it was a rather ecumenical Christian bookstore that is clearly aiming for the Protestant community but has a not too shabby collection of Catholic art and prayer books; back in the day in the Midwest you’d be hard pressed to find a Protestant store of any denomination that had anything for Catholics and usually if you asked for such you were directed to the End of Times Books where Catholicism was equated with the Whore of Babylon in Revelations — perhaps due to the goodwill of our present Pope those days of bigotry and exclusion are fading, and this is a good thing. For this and also for the pleasantry of the personnel I feel a sense of mission to do some shopping there and return the favor.
