Big Apple Books

Big Apple carries every kind of book you can imagine. The place is quite small but if you have time and patience, you just might come across what you are looking for. Unfortunately because the place is so small and they have books coming in all all the time, they are everywhere. In boxes, on shelves and on piles on the floor. This can be quite frustrating if you just want to look for a particular type of book.
They also sell CDs and records at great prices which is awesome. A lot of the time the records aren’t always in the greatest condition but I’ve found quite a few that I’ve been quite happy with.
If you have some time and patience to look through their store, stop by. There’s a gem to be found and you just might walk out with a smile on your face.

4 Stars for the amazing amount of versatility. I’m a big fan of recycled books and have popped into a few used bookstores before but this is definitely at the top of the litter. Everything is sectioned off so it’s easy to find the different books and sections. It is a little cluttered, but that is as expected for a used bookstore. I’m a germophobe but had no problem perusing books for literally 4 hours.
When I first walked in, I wasn’t immediately greeted and the lady at the front seemed to be involved in conversation, probably with one of the regulars at the store. This is perfectly fine with me because I don’t like to be bothered when I look around. As everyone else left I felt a bit awkward being in there alone because there was no music playing but that quickly changed when she greeted me and then asked if I needed any help. I told her I was just browsing and she was very understanding. She could tell that I’m the kind who does a lot of exploring on my own and like the privacy and let me know she was there if I needed anything. I have a weird thing where I can be social but I prefer being left to my quiet exploration time so bonus points for that. She also started playing some classic music that I like and it made a relaxing experience.
They also do have vinyls (LOVE) and DVDs. Those were unfortunately a little harder to dig through as they didn’t seem to be organized in any certain way. I’m a sucker for records so that was my only qualm because if I had stayed, I would’ve been there for another 4 hours digging through them.
From what I understand, you can bring your used books, DVDs and vinyls to sell as well. I like the give-​back to the community.
There is a pricing sign and I guess I misunderstood it because I assumed paperback was $ 2 but most of my books ended up being $ 4. It was a little confusing to understand, hence why I took away one star.
4 Stars because I’m a fan and will be going back. I walked about with about 5 books and was not disappointed.

Great little used book store. Books are four dollars or less and everything is in good to new condition. Store is cluttered but very clean and organized. Every other week all the four dollar books are two dollars so I will be back. I don’t think this is a good store for a first edition collector type but if you’re like me and buy best seller/​mass print used books on Amazon once a week for four-​8 dollars anyway, might as well support a local business and get it instantly instead! The owner is helpful and friendly. I just can’t say enough good things.

I stopped by and happened to catch a $ 2 Sunday when everything is $ 2 — great pricing! They played a very eclectic assortment of music — all 33 rpms on a real turntable. Way cool. The book selection seemed a bit heavy on cookbooks and diet books but there is a little something for everyone. I saw a number of books on poker, history, and self help, too. I wasn’t looking for DVDs or records so can’t comment on that selection. Easy parking, friendly staff, good energy.

Excellent record stop while in south Florida! The owner was very nice knowledgable and gave a great deal on multiple records. (3.00 each on records that were better than average and in better condition !) I picked up a Dylan and rush double live album for 5 bucks! how can you beat that and had a great discussion with owner on the history of jazz I had a lot of fun and encourage you to stop here !

This is the first place I hit every weekend! I never fail to find what I’m looking for and it’s a pleasure to spend time browsing and the people who work there are helpful and knowledgeable. love the place!

BEST used bookstore in the area! Fantastic selection! Always new material every time I stop in, which is at least once a week. (I’m a local… Yay!!) By far the friendliest most helpful staff I have encountered in my many years, many miles… But that’s not even the best part!!! Everything is SUPER cheap!!! Standard pricing is always under 5 $ PLUS they have $ 2 weekend sales!!! Yes, everything in store is just TWO DOLLARS like once or twice a month!!! Yay! Just get on their email list for sale dates, which is the only emails you will receive from them… Ahh Not spammy –SO Nice!!! I buy mostly books but also DVDs and sometimes a CD or on the rare occasion a fabulously divine glorious vinyl record! Woohoooo!!! The oldies are still alive at my house… Haha. :-) Hope this helps others who are looking for a fantastic place to buy books etc and/​or hang in a really cool vibing place with really cool vibing people! Big Apple Books is a little store with the biggest selection of books, CDs, DVDs, records (both LPs and 45s) and occasionally pop-​culture memorabilia in South FL! They keep my eyes and ears out of trouble and I’m thankful for that. Big Apple turns over inventory so often that you have to stop in a couple times a week to find that gem at the top of your wish list. It will turn up or when you go through the boxes and shelves you might just find something you weren’t even searching for that’s as exciting or better! Their location is convenient. It’s right on Federal Highway and the staff is friendly too which is an alien concept in South Florida. I love the Big Apple. If you dig uncovering treasures follow my lead!

Two years ago I sold my CD collection to Big Apple and had a great experience. I recommended the store to anyone who would listen. TODAY I went in to sell a box of used books prior to moving out of state. Based on my previous experience, I was more than happy to drive across the county to give these books a new home. Unfortunately, my experience was not as enjoyable as the first. The lady who «assisted» me made it apparent she was not interested in my books. Although their web-​site says «walk-​ins welcome,» she made it know by her demeanor I should have called ahead. After a disinterested rummage through my books (which were in good condition) and making a half-​hearted phone call to «the buyer» she told me I would have to come back at a later date. I explained I lived quite far away and have limited time. She was not interested in my story… I told her I would take my books elsewhere and she replied sarcastically, «good luck.»
Unfortunately, South Florida has a bad reputation for poor customer service, but as a bibliophile I hate to see it happen in a book store.

The best way I can describe it is like what you’d see and experience at a yard sale, or the salvation army or red cross donated books section. The store is small, and the selection is very poor. Mostly second tier hardcovers, yesterday’s New York Times best seller list, bland… The books are on tabletops or in boxes on the floor — for a place this small, floor to ceiling zig-​zag shelving would be a must, but they don’t have enough books to fill the small room, so I suppose that’s irrelevant. Books are *very* loosely organized, with a general «fiction» section, for example. Virtually no sci-​fi, fantasy or thrillers, and if you’re a collector or bibliophile just completely forget it.
They were extremely friendly, I must note, and although that is certainly welcome in any store, my main concern is with the merchandise. I can’t comment on the pricing because I didn’t see anything of interest and walked out (prices are not posted on the items). I’m new to the area, but what I’ve found so far, for general book lovers, I recommend Second Edition books in Fort Lauderdale, and for fantasy/​sci-​fi and vintage/​collectible fans I recommend Volume One Books also in Fort Lauderdale.

Great selection, great prices, and very nice staff. They also have CDs and DVDs for $ 2.50! Who can beat that price?!
I suggest going during one of the weekends they have their $ 2 sale where EVERYTHING in the store is $ 2-​even hardcover books! Add yourself to their mailing list or «like» their Facebook page and they’ll let you know when these sales are going to happen.

Love this store-​they have a nice variety (even kids’ books) and books are always coming in. Great prices too.

This is a good store to go browsing in. You never know what you’ll find. I love stocking up on new books during their $ 2 weekends, but their prices are reasonable even without the discount.

A huge selection of used books, all for very low prices. Staff has also been consistently friendly during my visits.
Only downsides are the general disorder of things (though, it’s not too big of a deal, I find the searching pretty enjoyable) and the lack of good air con.

They are NOT closed, and as soon as I figure out how to delete my last post I will! Cannot wait to see there new store!:)))

Another must visit store when I’m in the area (which isn’t often). It’s on the small side but very well organized and easy to move around in. I’ve always been able to find something I need at the right price.

Although I called the day before and described what books I had to sell and Robert the owner said to come in, he took one look and said he would not buy them. He said they were too old! Mind you, a customer at the counter just purchased a book by an author I had about 6 books written by. Go figure! What really gets me, is most of the books I have, paperback and hardcover, are new (never read) and the others are in good condition, they have just been in boxes forever! I wasted time and money (gas) to get «I am not going to buy them» before he even saw what I had. HOW RUDE! I will never recommend anyone to shop there… ever!

I went for the first time today (well, actually, I went yesterday, but it was Sunday and it was closed, note to self), after seeing this store reviewed on Unilocal I was so happy to find that everything you guys say is TRUE. This store is wonderful, pure bookish delight. The books are in excellent condition and they have a great selection for such a small space. I found what I was looking for plus about a dozen things I just plain wanted. I would have found more if I hadn’t come after work, with only a half hour to browse before they closed at 6pm. I signed up for their email list to be notified of upcoming $ 1-​for-​everything-​in-​the-​store sales, which the salesgirl informed me happens maybe once a month — believe I will be there for that! Even without a sale, this place is a charming, non-​musty, pleasantly messy, browser’s paradise.

Great shop! Definitely a great find in South Florida’s gentrified landscape. Interesting titles that range from trashy sci fi to highbrow literature to travel to the occult. A bit messy but that’s the way I like a used record/​book shop to be — great for digging up treasures. Everything I found was cheap — records for $ 1.50, CDs for $ 2.50, books around the same price. I also traded in a bunch of old books and got decent credit for the bunch. I liked the guy who runs this place a lot. Really nice person who seemed to be into the media he has around the shop. Quite a nice find for a record/​book nerd like myself. I’ll definitely be back.
