The Cal Poly Pomona University Library specializes in connecting you with the high quality information you need! Your professors are going to want you to use high quality information, much of which isn’t available for free on the web. That’s where the library comes in. The library gives you access to the high quality articles and books that your instructors require you to use. You can even access a lot of these materials 24⁄7 through the library website. The library has purchased these resources, which are free to our students!

History

Established in 1938.

The Library opened in 1938 in a room measuring 33 feet by 45 feet with seating for 48, study tables, a fireplace, a few hundred books, and a single librarian to support 80 (all-​male) students enrolled in three disciplines: agriculture, horticulture, and citrus production.

Today the Library is a 6-​floor modern learning facility with reading rooms on every floor, 43 group study rooms that can be reserved online, an events room that can be reserved for faculty meetings, a special collections and university archives room, an art gallery, over 250 workstations (78 of which are available 24/​7, even during holidays), over 1.5 million books, e-​books, microfilms, maps, DVDs, and CDs, over 37,000 periodicals, over 175 databases, and over 40 librarians, staff, and student assistants to serve over 20,000 students from diverse backgrounds enrolled in over 100 degree programs, including undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, credential and certificate programs across 8 colleges.

I really love this library. I can really get into the zone and study for hours here. There are plenty of floors, tables, study rooms, computers, even floors that are completely quiet. I just wish it was open 24 hours 7 days a week.

The library is really great. I’ve saved lots of money by just borrowing books from the library instead of buying them. Of course it gets crowed, but this is a university with many students so its bound to happen sometimes.

Staff can be very helpful. Sometimes you will get someone that is having a bad day but overall they have always been nice and helpful. Level 2 is quite noisy so if you want silence go to 5 – 6. Nice views of campus.

Librarians and library staff are soooo helpful and down to earth! There is a space for everyone. The Learning Commons and Productivity Center have fast computers and comfortable chairs with lots of space. The study rooms are accommodating but be sure to reserve it in advance or you won’t have one for final exam time!

I’ve only gone to this library on the weekends. Not a Cal Poly Pomona student.
Likes:
–Clean.
–The library is quite big…4 floors to study.
–Fairly quiet.
–Starbucks on the first floor… always a plus when needing a study break.
–Bathrooms are fairly clean.
–Free wifi as a guest. And the wifi is quite fast too!
Dislikes:
–Not all tables/​cubicles/​sitting areas have outlets located near them. I consider this to be a problem since most students bring their laptops with them and will need them charged eventually.
–At times you can hear people talking, which I don’t understand why they just don’t go into a study room considering many rooms are available on the weekends.

I’m not sure what’s more annoying when I’m trying to study on the quiet floors: the people playing games on their computer and clicking their mouse and moving it around so that it echoes against the old wooden cubicles with the occasional HEY BEHIND YOU whimper, or the frat boys who are chatty cathys and love chatting about physics equations and what happened last weekend. Not too sure, which I find more annoying. Probably on a whole, they’re all pretty annoying because I was under the misconception that libraries are for studying and not playing video games and chatting. At least not a university library that is suppose to be for higher education. Anyway, if you want to socialize or play games, why are you on the quiet floors? Reside yourself to the lower floors because you’re just distracting others from studying. ESPECIALLY YOU, MR. UGLY HAT WEARING 5th FLOOR GUY WHO GIGGLES AND MOANS AND CHATS ON YOUR CELLPHONE. I swear, you do only about 1 hr of studying and the rest of the time you’re watching something on your computer. Perhaps the latest episode of Community or something funny because you’re giggling like a little school girl. Maybe you should resign yourself to the on-​campus daycare center.
What else is there about this library? There’s plenty of space for everyone, but you may not get a power outlet, silence, a clean space, a comfy chair, or reassurance that your stuff won’t get taken. I don’t like this library, but at the same time, it’s fine for what it is and I don’t expect much. Only perk about this library is the free wifi as guest. Wifi is fast and you don’t have to get a password or username.
Lastly, I wonder if they ever clean this library? Bathrooms are consistently unclean looking and trash just remains scattered in the cubicles. I’ve experienced strange solicitation here too about donating to something. It’s so strange and inconspicuous. Some young girl will approach me and speak to me in a different language and then show me a flyer which looks like disaster relief for Japan. Anyway, that’s not too annoying, but mostly weird.

I like the library here, the higher up you go in the building the quieter it gets (which is always nice). The computer lab is open 24⁄7 which is GREAT for students who need a computer or quiet place to study. The library is always clean which is a great plus! GO BRONCOS!

Lovee studying here, it’s so nice and I love the sofa tables.
However…WHY DO PEOPLE HANG OUT IN THE LIBRARY?! It’s like thee social spot or something on the 3rd floor common area. It’s so loud, it echos throughout the floor and even the 4th floor. Once a group of girls even had music playing on their cell phone’s speaker… I know for a fact they’re not studying!
And it gets suuper packed around midterms/​finals times.
Other than that on a normal basis not around the 3rd floor window/​table area it’s a great place to study!

Nice library and probably the best place to study at CPP.
There are lots of computers if you need access to one. There are spots that can get pretty loud and places that are very quiet so whichever environment suits you while you’re studying, there’s a place for you here.

Surprisingly well-​made library that most people can just wander into.
There’s a 24 hour computer lab situated near the back that, as the name implies, is always open. The facilities are for the most part, always clean and there’s plenty of chairs and tables for you to get your work done. You can also rent out private rooms like you do in most libraries, that depending on the choice, will give you a TV (for presentation) or just an empty room with tables. I’m not going to talk about books because I haven’t read a book in a decade, but I’m going to assume that because this is a library… that it has a lot of books.
There’s a Starbucks downstairs for your overpriced coffee fix, and modern classrooms without the idiotic Building 9⁄5 chair + table combo. And throughout, there is available Wi-​Fi.
But despite my praise for the one part of campus that’s surprisingly well made, they had to go and ruin it…
The second floor, technically the first floor of the library, has tables near the back. Apparently it was logically decided that if you wanted to charge your computer equipment and what have you, you stuck your hand in a hole on the middle of the table, and crawl around with it, poking aimlessly at what you can’t see until the magical three prong plug is firmly entrenched into the socket. How about, no?
Then let’s talk about the magical and wonderful self-​study cubicles with no electric sockets? They’re actually to the wall behind and next to you, just so that you can enjoy watching people trip. It is, after all, 2012 and not 1999 where peasants like us can actually afford a laptop for school.

Really great library with a lot of places to get stuff done. It also has a lot of study rooms. It has pretty parts too with windows overlooking CPP. However, the staff working here is pretty mediocre. I’ve asked the circulation staff questions before and every time it’s «Umm I don’t know. Go ask the librarian.» They also do not explain procedures very well either. The librarians are nice and helpful though. It’s a very great place though!

The most welcoming library I’ve ever been to. I don’t even go to CPP, and I love it. I go to CSUN and the library there just screams old. This place is pretty modern, and doesn’t have that old library smell to it. Very clean, and the staff is very friendly. There’s PLENTY of different seats and tables for people to study at by themselves, or group studying.
It’s probably my favorite thing about CPP. It’s so good, I’d even consider transferring. I always get all my studying done. A nice perk is that the «Guest» wifi is free, and you don’t need to login to anything like most schools.

I like this library even though it is always packed when you are trying to get a computer. Sometimes you even have to stand in line. The second floor is the loud floor so I doubt you’ll get any studying done there. Get on the elevator and go to floors 4,5. Those are the quiet floors. You better not talk though because some nerdy library worker will come and tap you on the shoulder to keep it quiet. The view is nice too from the top floors. Comfy chairs. And if you have any questions the librarian at the help desk will be more than happy to answer them. Oh, there’s also a writing center but I’ve never been.

Inland Empire
I love the library, particularly the 4th floor. There are always good comfy places to sit and it’s nice and quiet (on the 4th floor). I’ve tried studying on the 2nd and 3rd, but I find the 4th is nice and peaceful. Happy studying!
