One Mesa

I love One Mesa. I stayed here a few years ago and am still remembering what a happy time I had here. The home is cozy, comfy and reasonable. They do not try to pull money out of guests with high cleaning fees like some. In fact, I recently decided to try another place, The SHERBURNE House because it was larger and I had more people,. Do not stay there! After paying for it the owners decided to not let me come because I asked about the very high cleaning fee and because I asked about their cancellation policy due to a severe illness in my family. Because they would not refund for any reason, I decided i would go just by myself anyway, but they would not let me come. Therefore, I could not write a review on their websites, homeaway, airbnb, flipkey as i never stayed there. Maybe it’s nice there, I won’t ever know as I will never stay there, ever. Only at ONE Mesa where there are good people.

This is a beautiful inn. It is essentially a b&b type inn (they’ve just recently stopped serving breakfast) that is in a private residential setting, with multiple buildings behind a gated fenced area. Frankly, the room was worth it just for the bathtub alone… the spacious claw footed tub can easily fit two if that’s your thing, and is a luxurious soak for one with tons of hot water and towels. With a privacy screen and views to the foothills and pastureland… I died. it was quiet, peaceful, and beautiful .The location is really convenient to downtown Point Reyes and the innkeeper Mila was incredibly gracious regarding my last-​minute reservation. Comfy featherbed, flatscreen TV, lots of pillows, mini fridge with snacks and coffee. Everything was clean, tidy… there are some rules listed, it’s definitely not a chain hotel, but it seemed mellow. Note: the Moonlight Room shares a wall with the office, so if you want total privacy and quiet perhaps pick another room.

We really enjoyed our stay this past weekend at One Mesa in the Starlight Room. It is private, quiet, a spacious yet cozy room, great bathroom, great little sink/​microwave/​coffee/​mini fridge area with tea, coffee & a nice cheese/​apples/​crackers plate was waiting for us in the mini fridge… to boot, it’s only a 20 minute walk to restaurants and shops. My husband and I have stayed at a number of places in Point Reyes Station over the past couple of years… while all of them have been enjoyable, the Starlight Room at One Mesa is the one place we will definitely return to on future trips to Point Reyes.

My stay at One Mesa was borderline perfect. I only say borderline because it had to end.
We arrived and were welcomed with many comforts of home, but more than my home has to offer! Fresh fruit was in our room with some cheese and crackers, waiting to be eaten on the porch of our Moonlight room. The bathtub was amazing, the bed was comfy, the fireplace warm, the over all stay — amazing.
Walking distance from Point Reyes Station, quick drive to amazing hiking… Stay at One Mesa!

One Mesa is a hidden gem in Pt. Reyes. We stayed in the Moonlight room for one night at the end of June and could not have had a better time! I think they usually have a two night minimum but they had another couple staying that Thurs. and Friday night so we lucked out and got the Saturday night, which was perfect for us coming from the Bay Area. We just really wanted two days and one night away, and Mila, the kind owner was happy to accommodate us on this one night she had free. The room itself was cozy and inviting, very comfortable king bed and super soft bedding. There was an old fashioned tub/​shower in the room which was fun to use as well. The room has it’s own entrance so you can come and go privately, and it opens onto a large deck with great views, where you can sit and have your afternoon wine and cheese or morning breakfast. The room also had a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, and was stocked for us to have a little snack and make coffee in the morning. We came on a weekend they weren’t making breakfast, so they charged us a little less for the room and we went out to breakfast after relaxing with some fruit and morning coffee they provided, which was perfect for us!
The gardens were beautiful and the whole experience was super relaxing and just what we wanted. We got recommendations from Mila for dinner that night and an activity the next day (we went to Café Reyes for pizza… delicious, and the next day up to Marshall for Oysters… Yum.)
And, at the end of it all, I realized I left my watch in the room. I emailed Mila and she found it and mailed it to me, which was SO sweet. I highly recommend the One Mesa Bed and Breakfast and would come back there again and again.

Really disappointed and put-​off by our stay at One Mesa. The room, although large with a sitting area and separate bedroom, reminded me of the sort of accommodations that one would expect at a relative’s house, complete with amateurish decorating skills. The room was right off the kitchen with a 2 – 3 inch space under the large door that linked the two so that all sounds from the kitchen area were easily heard and vice versa. This would have not been too much of an issue, although we generally stay in nicer accommodations, had it not been for the nastiness of the hostess/​owner. Everything was initially great with a hike at Point Reyes, wonderful dinner, and an exciting Monopoly game back at the room. Be aware that the walls in this inn are paper thin so one can hear every grunt, cough, snort, and other things that I won’t mention from your neighbors.
In the morning, our daughter who was sleeping in the sitting area called out for me, «Mommy.» That was it. I gave no thought to it as it wasn’t said loudly or in any way offensive or disruptive to our neighbors.
When our breakfast was delivered, the owner, making a great point of her actions, approached our 8 year old, leaned over, looked her in the eye, and said, «YOU need to use a quiet voice indoors. I heard you say ‘Mommy’ this morning.» And when she said ‘Mommy’ she said it in a disturbing, whiny voice. How rude! I berated her as we’d been up since 6 a.m. listening to her clanging dishes and pans while preparing everyone’s breakfasts. Not to mention the cougher next to us who must have had a terrible cold, poor guy. Was she going to tell him to quiet down? I think not. Our daughter was easy prey.
Naturally, this threw us off for the remainder of the weekend. The grounds are beautiful, the room as described previously, the breakfasts nice, and the owner high strung, nervous, and should not be working with the public! I am being nice here!
We will never return. Too many great places to explore and experience.
Beware: There are very few recent reviews for this inn. Do a little homework before staying here.

Two trips in to Point Reyes and we will never stay anywhere else. If you are looking to socialize with your neighbors this is not the place for you. If you are looking for complete relaxation and absolute privacy then look no further. From check-in…your key is in your room… to check out… leave your key in your room, there is no need to interact with anyone if you do not wish to. Mila is extremely gracious and helpful on the phone and in person, but not intrusive in anyway and deeply respectful of visitors and their privacy. What a gift to be able to get away and «turn off.»
The room was spacious and extremely comfortable with a glorious feather mattress. The proximity to town meant easy trips in for meals and located perfectly for exploring the numerous hiking trails in the area.
Absolutely perfect.

It would be difficult to add to all the wonderful things already written by other reviewers about One Mesa, but I have stayed there so many times that it is time I added my praise.
My husband and I have stayed at One Mesa at least a half dozen times and have tried every room. They are all wonderful. This last weekend we were in the Sunset Cottage for the first time, with the separate kitchen/​living area, and were really able to spread out.
All the great comments are true: Mila is not just a wonderful hostess but someone you’d actually like to have as a friend. She is very hands-​on and really cares about her guests. The rooms are well-​appointed, clean and comfortable, the beds luxurious, the bathrooms well-​stocked and well-​maintained. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL and if you were to spend all weekend just sitting on your porch or in the garden instead of tooling around town or hitting the trails, your time would be well-​spent.
The breakfasts are so good, and thoughtfully left on a tray at your door. There is always a perfect combination of sweet, savory, fruity, healthy, indulgent. Also the refrigerators are well-​stocked with snacks if you need breakfast on the go.
The property is well-​laid out in terms of privacy. You see others checking in or leaving, but because there are few rooms and separate entrances, you often feel as though you are the only ones there.
The hot tub, of course, is a great feature, and always seems to be free exactly when you want to use it.
I will finish by saying that we rarely stay in the same place twice but we keep coming back here because we have such a good time every time. I would not stay anywhere else in Marin.

We stayed at One Mesa for a little vacation/​getaway for a few days in August. Unlike most B&B’s, One Mesa is more about relaxation and privacy. Each room has its own private entrance and is like a suite with a mini-​fridge, microwave, coffee pot, hot water pot, and coffee grinder. We used a fan a little in August, but they also have a small fireplace for cooler nights. The fridge came stocked with some fruit, Point Reyes blue cheese, some pear juice, cereal/​granola, milk, creamer and fresh coffee beans. The breakfast was very similar every day, but I enjoyed it. Mostly, they prepared fresh fruit with either cheese/​crème fraîche on top, eggs, and a huge basket of croissants/​pastries. It was so wonderful to relax in bed with a book or on the Adirondack chairs on the deck overlooking the garden. Our Starlight room also came equipped with a few board games (i.e., Scrabble). The bathroom was clean and the tub in the combination shower/​tub was large enough for two. I even had a nice in-​inn massage, which was great and reasonably priced. (We just let Mila know a few days beforehand so that she could make the appropriate arrangements.)
Point Reyes Station (where we stayed) is a little town of 350 people, so it was very refreshing, compared to our home in the San Jose area. We walked into town a few times to have dinner, taste their local cheeses (Cowgirl Creamery) and pastries (Bovine Bakery), and get some fresh produce. We even ran into a family of deer a few times while we walked through the neighborhood. On our first day, we were lucky to run into Mila who was very helpful suggesting activities, restaurants, and trails at Point Reyes (since we were new to the area). We only stayed a few days, but were able to walk her suggested hike on the Tomales Point Trail, which goes towards the northernmost point of Point Reyes. The trail follows the cliffs along the beach but it also goes through the Elk Preserve (we spotted quite a few elk, too!). Anyways, thanks Mila and Stan for an relaxing vacation. We hope to visit again and explore more of Point Reyes and the local towns.
FYI: During our stay, she did suggest that we contact her for anything over the phone/​leaving a voicemail (as she tends to not notice the notes on the door), as she visits the site maybe once/​day. We didn’t need to contact her for anything, as we ran into Mila and Stan a few times during our stay. But, a helpful hint nonetheless.

I have to agree with the positive reviewers! I just spent 5 days at One Mesa with a group of 15 people. Mila and Stan couldn’t have been more wonderful, accommodating and friendly. The space is lovely, towels in abundance, comfortable beds, great patios, big kitchen, walking distance to downtown, gardens to die for. They try to run it in an eco friendly way, which is even better– they have recycling and composting on site, and are ok if you ask them to use unscented cleaning products if you have any environmentally sensitive folks in your group.
All in all, we loved it. It was a fantastic vacation rental and I am sure just as wonderful if you get a room in the B&B.

I have lots of good things to say about One Mesa, so I will split them off into sections.
1. MILA (One Mesa’s hostess): I made reservations for the 4^th of July weekend well in advance, and Mila was a real treat to work with. I could tell that she really loves what she does and she was very quick to give me excellent suggestions of places to visit around the area, like Tomales Bay Oyster Co, The Marshall Store, among others. After we spoke, she sent me a detailed email reminding me of her suggestions, the receipt for our stay, what to expect when we arrive, etc. There was no hassle in the process. Also, Mila thought of little things like leaving us a handwritten postcard after she spruced up our room on Saturday morning, complete with farmers market info and her phone number in case we needed anything. She really is the sweetest lady.
2. EXTRAS: When it came down to showtime, it was also very painless. Mila greeted us at the gate and she showed us to our room, the Moonlight Room, with a private deck and fantastic view of the rolling countryside, horses, and beautiful trees. After a long drive, we were starving so we checked out the goodies she left us: In the refrigerator, Pont Reyes blue cheese (our favorite!), crackers, apples, organic apple juice, caf/​decaf coffee beans, milk, creamer, teas, hot chocolate mix, giant chocolate chip cookies… To say the least, we grubbed out. We were famished! Some other thoughtful things Mila thought of were: bubble bath, handsoap, bathsoap, Bath & Body works shampoo/​conditioner/​lotion, tampons, coffee grinder/​coffee maker, kimono robes, to name a few. Mila also gave us a chilled bottle of white wine for letting her know that I found One Mesa through the power of Unilocal.
3. THE ROOM: The room itself was adorable and spacious. We had an extremely lush, comfortable king sized bed with a feather top. A beautiful separator to partition off the old fashioned tub. There was a wood burning stove to keep warm, I suppose in the winter, which we didn’t need. As the website notes, there is a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker/​coffee grinder, the usuals. She also provided mugs, cups, wine glasses, dishes, etc, plus videos and games, CD/​tape deck and CDs/​tapes. The room was tastefully decorated and wasn’t overly flowerly or cramped with antiques like other B&Bs I’ve seen in the movies. Also, all the rooms have separate entries, and our room was extremely private, with a private staircase to get to our room, with a spacious deck with a table to sit outside and enjoy the view. This is not one of those B&Bs where you need to spend time with other guests.
4. THE BREAKFAST: We only got breakfast one Sunday, because Saturday we had an early morning. Stan delivered breakfast to our door at around 9am, and I requested for him to set us up outside on the deck. He put out a tablecloth for us and gave us a HUGE basket filled with goodies: 2 fruit plates (raspberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, grapes, cherries, oranges) topped with homemade yogurt, and what I believe to be honey water, sprinkled with powder sugar. There was a jar of delicious granola we topped on to our fruit plates. There was also two softboiled eggs in individual egg holders, cooked to perfection. The pastry basket consisted of one giant sweet pastry (bear claw perhaps? divided into pieces), 2 pieces of sourdough slightly sweetened with honey, which we ate with our egg, and 2 fluffy, toasted croissants, with generous slabs of brie cheese warmed up in the middle of the croissant. We also were given a plate of potatoes and sausages. To say the least, we were stuffed, happy, and had leftovers.
5. OVERALL: Mila’s great, the breakfast was great, the location was great (it’s very close to downtown-​we biked straight down One Mesa to get to the area that has the store, Bovine Bakery, restaurants, etc. but it’s not right off of Hwy 1, so there isn’t a lot of thru traffic), also very close to Point Reyes Visitor’s Center (a short 2 – 3 mi bike ride to the visitor’s center), and the room itself was very spacious, as the website says: like a small cottage, and almost everything you can think of is provided for you. Mila really thinks about the details and it really shows that she enjoys what she does. Highly recommended, and I’d visit here again. (I’m really happy, because I took a chance going with One Mesa, after finding it on Unilocal and no other recommendations, and was so thrilled with the outcome of the trip!)

It was a really hot day when we got there. Didn’t quite appreciate the surroundings. I was annoyed.
The road to get to Pt. Reyes is windy and loooong. I’m not of a patient driver and this one got to me. You will pass quaint towns that father time forgot. 1 Mesa sits at the very end of Pt. Reyes Station. You will open a gate to let yourself in. Was advised to close the gate for hungry deers. On our way in passed the double gate we saw a family of deers. Mother and two Bambis. Sooo cute!
We had the Sunrise Room. Cozy and perfect for a weekend getaway! Never got to meet Heath the inn keeper. Saw his silhouete the following day when her brought the over easy b-​fast. We ate our b-​fast on the deck while the sun was just beginning to warm up. From the deck you can see the trellis with white flowers wrapped around it. My impression and mood quickly changed and I was immediately captivated by the beautiful surroundings.
The day we arrived we went searching for the tub and found it near the «secret garden». Didn’t use it at all just curious.
Wanted to thank Heath for making sure that I got my over easy eggs instead of the usual poached/​soft boiled eggs. Great service and very nice phone manners. yes readers they take cc’s.
Why the four stars? No water in the mini-​ref. There were organic apple juice in bottles and coffee and tea and some apples and cookies. Had to drink the tap water which wasn’t bad.
Will definitely go back for more memories.

This place is awesome!
My girlfriend and I went here for our two-​year anniversary. The room (Moonlight) was awesome, with a large claw-​foot tub. The hot tub was always empty, so we got to enjoy that perq several times during our stay.
We opted to partake in the breakfast portion (which is optional). It was great! The room has everything you’ll need while you’re there. I took a bunch of stuff because I wasn’t sure. Thought it might be like the Philo Apple Farm (another great B&B), which was just a cottage, not many amenities. But we got into the room and there was a TV with cable (which we really didn’t watch), coffee maker/​grinder/​beans in the fridge, everything you could want for the coffee, complementary cheese and other goodies, plenty of towels for your hot tub visits, etc etc etc.
Go!

In between the happy, productive craziness of daily life (visitors, family trips, job, residency), my boyfriend and I carved out two invaluable nights to get away together and just be. We chose One Mesa as our retreat. I’m halfway across the country now, but my mind is still sitting on that porch, looking out over the fields and smelling the ocean air tinged with our fresh-​brewed coffee, a good book in my lap and my honey napping in our little slice of heaven.
Mila and Stan– If you read this, thank you for such an incredible retreat. You have created the best haven I’ve ever retreated to. As the others here pointed out, your thoughtfulness is evident throughout… the plush, plentiful towels, music, books, linens, stocked fridge, games. I’ve never had such a complete «experience» set out before me for the enjoying. It’s easy to just arrive and relax, forgetting the cares of the world instantly. Especially when you only have two days, that thoughtfulness and ease are even more appreciated.
For what we wanted, the privacy here was perfect. I do think it’s important to note that this isn’t the typical b&b experience. Go elsewhere if you are looking to socialize. But if you’re looking for tranquility in an amazing setting, and at a very reasonable cost, this is such a gem. I would go back in an instant, and hope I can soon. For those from SF like we are, it’s accessible but worlds away. And there are very few other places I’ve been where I’ve felt that the cost and effort spent getting there was so worth it… in fact there is no other place. This one tops them all.
By the way, we stayed in Sunrise Room. It was a difficult choice because they all sound great, and Mila pondered along with me. But I’m glad we did… as someone who likes to be girly and put on makeup, the doublesink bathroom was nice, and the setting back behind the first few rooms seemed even more private than most. I’m sure each and every room is fabulous though. In fact, my only disappointment was that I didn’t run into Mila and get a chance to say «hi» or peek into any of the other accommodations to inform future visits.
Also, beyond One Mesa if you do venture out (there won’t be much need!) we went to the Café at the end of Main St., where the pizza oven turned out fabulous pies and they had a great salad and nice house wine, all for I think $ 30 for dinner for 2. The next night we went to Station House Café for a b-​day dinner. It was okay, not great. If I were to do it over I’d probably choose Mankas and drive a bit further, or some other place. Pastries at Bovine Bakery were fabulous, sandwiches at the local grocery were perfect hiking fare, and the Pine Cone dinner is a good choice (for food, not the prickly service).
We did a hike out to the point (approx. 10miles) one day. It was extremely windy, so come prepared, but a great little adventure. Park at the historic dairy farm and go from there (Can’t miss it, there’s only one path). Just don’t sit in the little pricker bushes in the sand like my boyfriend did when you’re ready to picnic. Ouch.
There was one moment when I sat outside at One Mesa, warm tea cup in hand, looking out over the hills and a stallion came galloping over the horizon as the music from our room drifted calming notes across the breezes to me… during that moment I felt the most happy I have in a long time. That is the sort of place One Mesa is.

I was in Point Reyes/​Inverness recently for a family wedding and stayed in the Sunset Cottage with my parents. I tried to get my own room, but mom insisted on all of us together! Ouch! To my delight though, the cottage was very nice and the daybed very comfy. The owners, Mila and Stan were wonderful!
The day of the wedding was cloudy/​misty and Mila called our room to give my mother some inspirational thoughts on rainy wedding days. My mom was very pleased and felt at ease over the weather after talking to Mila.
I will definitely be coming back to One Mesa again! The grounds are beautiful and the owners fantastic!

I recently stayed in the Sunrise Suite at One Mesa. My daughters and I love the very private rooms with a view, surrounded by humingbird gardens, views of the rolling hillsides and horses in the distance, deer sightings on the road, and blackberries to pick on the lovely walk into town. The fridge was stocked with great coffee beans in decaf and leaded, fresh cream, and whole milk, granola, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, and incredible Point Reyes Blue Cheese. Just stepping in the door of the bedroom and seeing the French bedding and feather bed with down comforters relaxed me. I got the incredible breakfast delivered and had enough to save for a snack later in the day. A treat to dip in the Inn hot tub with a view, too. All I know is this is the only place we will ever want to stay in town as it’s reasonably priced, allows dogs, and feels like a home away from home.

My wife and I stayed in the Moonlight room which has a private deck with a wonderful view over the valley. The room is comes with some basic necessities, including a nice Point Reyes Bleu cheese which we enjoyed with apple slices and a buttery chard (not included) while the sun set and horses roamed the hillsides. Not too shabby at all. The king size bed is super comfy too. The hosts Mila and Stan were very respectful of privacy. The breakfast, brought by Stan, is an optional extra, and is more than substantial (especially sunday’s).
The hot tub was a little cool for my taste (100degrees), but still was a nice treat. This place was worth every penny.

My fantastic gf surprised me with a night at One Mesa. We were just roaming around Point Reyes Station and then she drove up to this gate and sprung it on me. She had taken care of the arrangements beforehand (sneaky little thing, she is) so we just walked right in to our room.
The room we had was very cozy, and had a great view. I liked that this was a B & B but we had our own bathroom and had so much privacy. Like the other reviewer said, we didn’t see anyone while we were there. Well, except for the owner who brought us our breakfast basket in the morning. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and cheeses that we picked up from Cowgirl Creamery in town out on the deck before heading to dinner at Olema Inn. After dinner we came back and relaxed in the hot tub under the stars.
If you are looking for a little getaway and just want to relax, this is a great place to do that. I would definitely stay here again.

I’m hesitant to write this review because I don’t want the place to get too popular that I can’t get a reservation whenever I want! With that said…
One Mesa was like a little slice of heaven. The main difference between this b&b and all the others I have been to is that it encourages privacy. We never saw anyone else the entire time we were there. Each room has a private deck and entrance, and we paid by check beforehand so there was no check-​out process to go through. The owners dropped the breakfast off in the morning, and were gone by the time we opened the door.
Not only was the view amazing from our room, but the interior was also great. There was a clawfoot tub in one corner shielded by a folding screen, and the bed was plush and comfortable without being too flowery. There was a refrigerator and microwave, and chocolates, coffee, and tea were provided.
It felt like all of the little details had been thought of, such as a CD player with a few CDs next to the bathtub, 3 sets of towels, 2 by the bathtub and 1 by the sink, candles, incense, etc.
I’ve also stayed at Ten Inverness Way near Point Reyes, and even though that too was a great experience, One Mesa was just a cut above. If you’re looking for a traditional b&b experience where you converse with others and talk to the owners, then One Mesa is not the place for you. But if you’re looking for lots of romance and privacy, you have to check it out!
