I love, love, love this place. This is my go to place in Marin. Unfortunately, since I have been coming here – the place has become Popular. Can you say: Over Crowded. The servers are always changing and they seem to be getting understaffed and over loaded. There is a wait and the servers seem overwhelmed. Not so nice. I ordered«steak fries» and thought they would be big thick cuts of potato. They came out looking like something McDonald’s would throw away. Steak fries are a big juicy cut of french fry! These sucked. The lamb burger was great. Get the service, wait, polite and fry thing down. Thanks.

I ate here twice for lunch. First time I had the Goat Burger with onion rings. Without question, It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, in nearly 50 years of burger eating. Simple prep, with chèvre, carmelized onions and mushrooms and a locally baked brioche bun. Goat meat flavor is very similar to lamb, if you’ve never tried, and that combo of ingredients is outstanding. The onion rings are equally amazing: the onions retain their natural snap while the use of lard and salt is perfect: it’s how to enjoy a guilty pleasure. On return two days later, it was very hard to choose, given the menu features fried chicken, steaks, pulled pork and more, but I went with the Cubano, and was not disappointed. It’s not traditional, but the combo of fresh local ingredients(pork, ham and chicken) and smartly simple prep made for another unforgettable meal. The house pickles are solid. It’s a very basic spot, and the prices may seem steep for a place without white tablecloths, but the quality of the food is worth it. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Beer choices are all local, the IPA #2 paired well with goat.

I’ve been to Marin Sun Farms a few times and always had been impressed with the quality of service and food. I would bring my friends to there every time we’re up near Point Reyes. Unfortunately, the most recent time that I went, my friends and I order three bone in rib eyes. When our rib eyes came, there were no bones. When we informed the waiter, his responses were they are bone in rib eyes and the butcher knows what he’s giving us. It was such an odd answer. Even though the rib eyes were great we still prefer bone-in. Also, we bought bone-in pork chops from the butcher section and realized they have no bones. So disappointed. I would still return to Marin Sun Farm but I should make sure that I am getting what I asked and paid for.

YASSSSUCH A FAN. Everything was delicious. Gotta appreciate the pasture to fork concept. Such a far drive, but if you’re in the area, EATHERE, PLEASE. Will prob be back when I visit Alamere Falls. I was only a tad hungry before this meal, nevertheless, everything was still«DYNAMITE». First of all, the brussel sprouts – weren’t too warm and seemed like it was sitting out for a bit – but the flavor and perfect crispness made up for it all. This was one of the tastiest brussel sprouts I have ever had, so good. I don’t even love parmesan cheese, but there was a mountain-ful along with creamy garlic aioli. The lamb sausage was palatable, first time having lamb in sausage form. Side of caramelized onions, sweet pickles, and mustard. Combine it all, and you’ve got yourself a delight. Goat burger was a unique taste, a bit of an acquired flavor that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend this if you’ve never had a goat burger – why not? If not here, then where? It came with mushrooms cheese and more caramelized onions! Aged beef burger was pretty delicious and makes my top 5 burgers list. It was the perfect density, flavor, and juiciness with each chomp. That beef was real. Came with cheese and bacon. Finished off with water buffalo milk ice cream! Tried the original flavor, fleur de something, can’t think now, forgot. It was light and smooth, will try another flavor next time… and I want to try the biscuits too! HOPEYOUENJOYYOURMEAL!

Great stop when up in Point Reyes! Naturally grass fed meats and pastured chickens cooked to order. The menu features meat-centric fare including beef, lamb, goat, pork, and chicken. I ordered the lamb burger with lamb bacon, manchego, and chimichurri sauce. My partner ordered the blue cheese burger. Both were amazing! I definitely plan to return and sample my way through the creative burgers as well as some fresh steaks. The fries were ok, but I’d prefer them crispier. The service can be slow, but is warm and friendly. The various meat options are on display in a meat case and available for purchase and carrying home. These are beautiful cuts of meat — the beef is so deeply red and fresh appearing, and unlike mainstream grocers, these are not artificially dyed or red-light lit to fool you. We bought a couple filet mignons and cooked them a home the following night and they were fantastic. In addition we bought a dozen of the eggs — pricy, but again, delicious and worth every dime. If up hiking in Point Reyes, add an extra mile or two then reward yourself with an indulgence at Marin Sun Farms butcher and restaurant.

Came on Easter Sunday with a party of 5, probably had to wait about 10mins to get sat. Small dining area but very good meats and they turn tables pretty quick. First we ordered the onion rings and Brussel sprouts as appetizers. The onions rings were perfectly battered, not heavily breaded like a lot of places tend to do. The Brussel sprouts were sooo good, i wanted to order more. For our entrées we ordered the beef burgers; Beef, Beef & Bleu, & Dry Aged Beef. Sadly they were all out of the Dry Aged Beef Burger, so we’ll definitely have to get that one next time around. When my party got their burgers they were all cooked to the preferred temp, always a good sign since most restaurants are infamous for over cooking meats. They came with salad or fries, the salad had a light house vinaigrette and was flavorful. The fries could have been more crispy but were still good. My sister is super particular in having her burger cooked rare & most places we go seem to never get it right, but she was also happy that her burger was cooked to the right temp. All in all it was a great easter lunch!

This was our Friday night stop a few weeks back on a weekend getaway at the coast. We’ve wanted to stop in here on a number of previous visits but have always been spoiled for choice in the area. We split a burger and a salad and both were top drawer. The service was casual but attentive on a quiet night and we loved the fact that you can buy meat from the farm to take home with you from their butcher counter too.

I love coming to places like these that take pride in their farm raised products and house made locally sourced ingredients. I ordered their Lamb Burger w/greens(gotta get the greens at some point) w/a local craft stout beer. They have some great local beer selections and p. s. they make their own ketchup.

Get the dry aged burger! And some fries! If you like good meat, knowing that it was sustainably farmed and only traveled a few miles to get to your plate, this is the place for you! Totally casual vibe with great Sean Thackrey wines that are made to pair with the decadent fare.

Wow. The lamb burger and the goat burger were both fantastic. So juicy, full of flavor, and fresh. I thought they were both equally delicious, although I’ve seen mixed reviews on Unilocal.Lamb bacon? I didn’t even know what that meant, but it was delicious. Also, the salad that comes with the burgers is super plentiful… although, the fries are also pretty darn good. We also shared the brussel sprouts and they were pretty delicious… oily…but oh-so-scrumptious. Service was a bit slow because they looked really understaffed. By having only two servers, and that included a cashier for the meat cuts, it took a while for tables to be turned, even if diners were done eating. Also, they didn’t seem to make use of the smaller tables for 2 people and larger tables for larger parties which meant that our party of 3 could not squish at the table of 2. So that meant we had to wait a while to get seated. Once seated, it was sometimes difficult to get their attention although our server was super sweet. Definitely a good spot to take a hungry carnivore.

This is probably the easiest five stars I’ve ever given on Unilocal. My wife took me here as a surprise for my birthday in early September, and we left here extremely satisfied. I feel kinda bad that it’s taken me this long to write a review for this place, but it definitely deserves a great review. So as I was saying, my wife took me here for a surprise birthday dinner in early September, after spending the weekend in Sonoma, and we were both just blown away by the quality of the food. The restaurant itself isn’t that big, but that’s taking into account that about a quarter of the floor space is taken up by a big butchers case that has all their meats displayed. You want it? It’s here. Steak, goat, lamb, pork… it’s all here, and it’s all excellent. All the meats are grass-fed and cooked to order, so if you see something you like, just point it out to the employee, and they will cook it for you and serve it to you at your table. In addition, they also have meats available(including sausages) to take home with you, as well as a wide assortment of cheeses and sodas. Just tell the butcher what you want, and they will vacuum seal it for you to bring home. Everything I looked at was amazing, but I locked my eyes on a big lamb leg chop that was calling my name, and I was done. I love lamb, and I just couldn’t pass it up. I believe my wife ordered a burger, and our meals came with shoe-string fries and salads that were a great touch to an incredible dinner. I believe the lamb steak was about $ 12.99 a pound, and it was most definitely worth every damn bite. I asked for my steak rare because it really brings out the flavor of the lamb. And it was cooked perfectly. Every bite was better than the last, and it reinforced my preference for lamb as my favorite cut of meat. I also had a bottle of ginger ale to go with my meal that was unlike any soda I’ve ever tried before. This was not Canada Dry… this was refreshing, tasty, and not overly sweet. After we were done eating, we purchased some more cuts of meat to take home with us. We’re saving the extra meat we bought from the butcher there for a special occasion. Yea… it was that good. So if you ever find yourself around town for whatever reason, and you love QUALITY meat, you owe it to yourself to come here.

During a recent trip to the Pt, Reyes Station area, my wife, daughter and I had a dinner with some longtime friends. I checked on Unilocal!to find a good bet for dinner and came up with MSF. This was more than a good bet, it was a winning hand! We’d read about the goat burger, and lamb burgers, so we tried out each. I would say we all decided the lamb was the way to go. The goat was solid, but not as wonderful as others had said. It was a little too lean and dry for us. On the other hand, the lamb was awesome. Next time, all lamb burgers! Not only are they tasty and juicy, but they have lamb bacon in them! You have to love lamb bacon! I did. Now that I think about it, if you are tempted by the goat, just say no, pass it over for the lamb. Do not pass over the lamb(pseudo clever religious pun precedes). Additionally, we tried the house made garlic sausage — pricey but very good. We also had several artisanal beers. They have a selection. There’s something for everyone, but not everything is for everyone on the beers. The fun is trying a few things. YMMV. One table favorite was the Deschutes Black Butte Porter. Some of the others were not bad, just not as exceptional as we’d hoped. We don’t get up here more than once a year. Hopefully, they are still here and doing well when we return. What we hope to do is try out their locally grown premium steak and get another lamb burger. What we hope not to do is encounter our same weird waiter. I didn’t put this in the review a bit earlier, but our waiter had some odd behaviors and comments for a waiter. For instance, he refused to ask some simple and normal questions about some of the beers and other items. It was not to the«go get the manager» stage, but odd in a non amusing way. YHTBT. It didn’t ruin the evening, but we still talk about him. :-) OK — go for it! Take your blood thinner and go get yourself a lamb burger with lamb bacon and see what I’m talking about!

This restaurant is a must try if you’re visiting Point Reyes! The meats are delivered fresh from their farm and most of the meat are certified grass-fed. A nice little butcher shop is located inside and you can choose which steak you would like for your meal. The food was fresh and of high quality. I ordered the beef burger(grass-fed) with bacon, aged Gruyère and topped it off with a wild hen egg for an extra $ 3. The only reason this place is getting a 3-star rating is because my burger came out well-done when I asked for medium, the burger meat was dry and the egg was fully cooked(I was hoping for a runny center). For a $ 15 grass-fed burger, I was hoping that the meat would be more juicy. Regardless of the mishaps, you can still taste the quality of the grass-fed beef which I appreciate. The other foods we tried were on point though! The Brussels sprouts with aioli and Parmesan was probably my favorite dish of the meal. The lamb burger was very juicy with a unique taste that you won’t find at any other burger place. My boyfriend chose a nice New York strip from the butchery that was served with the most delicious fries I have ever tasted(maybe it was because they fried the potatoes in rendered pork fat yummm). Overall, if you’re visit Point Reyes, this is a great place to stop to get some high quality food after a nice hike!

After an enjoyable 20 mile bike ride in Marin County, we decided to refuel at MSF. Since Unilocalers raved about the delicious goat burgers and beer, my party of 7 had to check this place out. Being that it was a holiday weekend, MSF did not have any reservations available, but said that we could eat outside. Since the weather was already starting to become chilly, there were some in our party who were a bit concerned because there were no outside heaters. Alas, we decided to chance it knowing there were other places nearby. When we arrived, there appeared to be a large table available inside MSF and our waiter asked us to wait a couple minutes to set up our table. Soon after we sat down in the very casual eatery, our waiter brought menus to which our friend was going to pass down making it easier on the waiter who promptly said, «no». After a few minutes, our waiter returned to ask if we wanted water or if we wanted to order a beverage. Looking forward to drinking a beer, I asked for a beer with low alcohol to which the waiter replied that he couldn’t do it. Apparently, he said he would take orders of beverages we already knew we wanted. For God’s sake, he’s an order taker not an EDUCATOR. As my dining companion likes to say, «Jack, what were you thinking?» Because I was in a generous mood and with friends, I extended grace to our waiter with his unsuitable job. After ordering, we must have waited at least a half an hour for our food which made us somewhat nervous because our friend had to be at work soon. When the food arrived, we compared how rare, med rare, med worked out on our burgers, For the most part, everyone got what they wanted except a med rare order that came out med. Here’s my take on the food: House salad $ 10 — good, standard House-made garlic sausage $ 9 — worth getting Goat burger $ 16 — lackluster, not tasty nor juicy Common Lager on tap $ 6 — definitely common; I would have preferred my friend’s malty Deschutes Black Butte Porter Lamb Burger — exceptional; everything you want in a burger. Despite the«weirdness» of our waiter and long wait time, I’d return to try their meat in the butcher counter which you can can buy and add $ 12 for cooking. Since I didn’t have any refrigeration, I was’t able to purchase their Peking duck in the freezer for $ 8/lb nor their whole rabbits.

What a major disappointment. Very average to poor sandwiches for above average costs make this a poor choice when we visited them for lunch on a Friday afternoon. There was only one party of two ahead of us when we arrived only 45 minutes after they opened so service was very attentive at first. After hearing about his place for years now and reading some great reviews, I really set myself up for major disappointments when the Goat Burger and their Reuben each failed for me in key ways. I had the vaunted Goat burger. It came out looking great with dressed side of organic mixed greens(excellent) and some slices of their homemade pickles(tangy sweet butter pickle style). I ordered the burger medium(as the waiter suggested quickly) and it was close to medium well – absolutely no hint of pink nor juice nor flavor. First I thought it was only on the edges, but it got worse towards the center. This made this burger very dry and virtually tasteless. I think the person at the grill had nothing to do but press this burger until every last bit of juice was gone. The only thing that gave it any flavor was the chevre cheese on top the burger. The bun was not very toasted nor even buttered and also was dry. For $ 16, this was an embarrassment to represent the focus of these farms. Unfortunately, in my hunger, I decided to eat all of it instead of send it back. Never again will I accept such a poor excuse for a burger. The Reuben was likewise dressed with the same salad and pickles, but its problem was that somehow they decided to be very stingy with the pastrami. There was far more of the locally made sauerkraut than actual meat on this sandwich. Again, the bread was far from being crispy grilled and it was overall not worth the cost. Our waiter started off very attentive but then virtually disappeared for the rest of our meal, not even returning to check and refill our waters, until I had to get up and request it at the front register. He checked early once after delivering the meal, but then was almost absent after a moderate crowd entered the restaurant. And even after being requested to refill one glass of water, he never followed-up with a simple«how as everything?». Two expensive sandwiches, two expensive misses, not worth the time or effort to return here.

After a lazy beach day, the boy & I were super hungry, so we drove up from the beach to Marin Sun Farms. It was so hot outside — I was hoping it’d be cooler indoors, but it was a bit stuffy, and still pretty hot. However, we got a cute window seat with good lighting, and service was pretty quick. The boy got the biggest burger [because of course he did] and added pork bacon and an egg on top, and I had the Cubano. We split the brussel sprouts to start. Holy. So. Much. Food. The brussel sprouts were very good — I would have personally preferred them a little crispier, but so smoky and cheesy and delicious. The Cubano was amazing as well, although I could only eat half of it. The salad was so fresh! Vinaigrette on point. The boy’s burger was a monster! I ate a few bites, and I agreed with his proclamation — one of the best burgers we’ve ever had. Pricey, but worth it for a once-in-awhile spot.

One of those local, sustainable, organic, serves water in mason jars but only upon request, water buffalo ice cream selling establishments. Accordingly, prices are high and expect to pay at least $ 15 for a sandwich or burger. I ordered a pastrami reuben. It was my first meal after a long 10 – 12 mile trail run in the area, and the salty meat and briny sauerkraut sure hit the spot. The meat was sliced wonderfully thin, so I didn’t need to tear through tough sinew; rather, it almost had a melt-in-your-mouth quality. While the salad looked normal, it also exceeded my expectation in being well coated with a sweet, vinegary dressing. An expensive but quality meal. They have a sign-up list for diners and we waited maybe 10 – 15 min to get seated. They have a big tub of bones below the butcher counter that I saw people helping themselves to, and I don’t know if it was for pet dogs or what.

This delicious place, is small and tucked away on a road in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much farm to table, and although some had horrible experiences and determined the food just«ok» — I had little to complain about as my party and I found the service was good and the food, absolutely DELICIOUS. Drinks: they have a wide variety of bottled beverages, unique and or common. I went for a unique cane sugar black cherry soda — which was tasty. Appetizers: we shared french fries and onion rings, the french fries were good but simple — no real special taste or seasoning — just straight up good ol’ potatoes. Them ONION rings though! So damn good! The batter was so perfect it was special, prob. one of the best onion rings I’ve had in a while. Main thing: got the beef burger with bacon and the chicken sandwich. The burger was juicy and compact with so much flavor. The bread was also good and toasted perfectly to support the thick weight of the meat. The chicken sandwich was also suprisingly tasty, slightly fried with a generous amount of chipotle sauced cole slaw slabbed on a thick cut toast. Dessert: THEBUFFALOMILKGELATO is a must! judge away but I literally had a «for here» order then got some to go as well! Buffalo milk is said to be 3x the fat of regular cow milk, which is prob. why the gelato was so thick and oh so good! The Pistachio flavor was definitely my favorite. Take away: the restaurant also has their own little store inside the restaurant. A butcher shop and array of frozen take aways, so you can eat just as good at home. I actually ended up getting sucked into their plan and bought a pack of sausages, frozen turkey pozole soup, and of course their gelato.

I’d heard about Sun Farms from two different people over the span of one weekend. So, when we had plans to head up North on the following weekend, I quickly planned in a dinner detour via Point Reyes ;-) We arrived in the late afternoon/early evening on a sunny Sunday. Luckily, we’d missed the lunch crowds and so we right away found a good place in the garden section of the restaurant. We sat down and the waiter soon brought a menu and took our orders for drinks. We all went for the burger in varying degrees of doneness: from rare to well-done. When the burgers arrived we noticed that they came with a side of tasty salad instead of fries… which really is a welcome change. However, we were in the mood for some fries and so we ordered one portion to share, which arrived soon after. For drinks we ordered some local beers and local sodas. All quite unique and really tasty. This place is mostly known for their butchery. You can find their meats in various restaurants and delis all over the Bay Area.
