Towne Center Books

My experience: OMG. loved my entire experience. I called to see if they had a book in stock and unfortunately they didn’t, but they were able to order it and have in 2 days later. The ladies over the phone and in person were super sweet and very helpful.
The store: the setup is super cute. What I loved most about it, they had a kids area where kids were actually enjoying books (so unheard of now a days with technology and electronic gadgets). I love supporting small businesses (especially cute ones:) and will definitely be returning!

Great local bookstore. They have one of the best children’s books section I’ve ever seen. They even offer a play area for the wee ones. Friendly, personal service. This place has a strong community feel to it. Will definitely visit this bookstore whenever I’m in downtown Pleasanton.

I come here for a book club and I think it’s just the cutest little store ever. The people who work here are enthusiastic and very helpful. If you come in often enough they remember what you like to read about and will tell you about new acquisitions that might suit your fancy. Also, if you want a book that they don’t have, they’re all too happy to order it for you. I was also quite impressed by how supportive they are of local authors — lots of spotlight events, discussions, etc. It’s very cool.
Obviously, since this is a brick and mortar bookstore the prices are going to be a lot higher than if you were just buying an ebook, but I think there’s a lot to be said for having a hard copy in your hot little hand. I don’t think the prices are any more ridiculous than, say, Barnes and Noble, and the service here is far better, & this way I actually feel like my purchase makes a difference! Yay for supporting small, independent book stores!
Towne Center Books is such a nice place. If you want to read what’s new and what’s hot, or are looking for a best-​seller, it’s a pretty good bet that you’ll find what you want here. And if not, the nice ladies (and sometimes man) are only too happy to get it for you!
I’m coming back here next week to do just that. :)

I have been going to Town Center books for years. It is my go to store for children’s gifts and they will even wrap the gift for free! It was always a nice surprise when I had purchased my 10^th book and would get a free book! Always friendly, always helpful and always greeted with a smile.

Best little bookshop in town!
Judy Wheeler has lots of author events for both kids and adults. Through the years we have collected autographed books, heard author insights and enjoyed a reading stop during our daily walks.
You will surely love this friendly neighborhood shop! Check it out!

We have lived in Pleasanton for almost 15 years have been visiting this sweet little bookstore ever since we moved here. It is in the most charming location in Historic Downtown Pleasanton. They often have authors coming in to give talks. For a bookstore that size they always have the books you’re looking for. The people are friendly and helpful. It is such a refreshing change from Barnes and Noble type bookstores. Going there brightens my day. I hope they stay in business forever.

If you are browsing for a large selection of books like the big stores, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for something specific, let them know at the counter because they can almost certainly get it for you. I couldn’t find the first The Walking Dead graphic novel (c’mon, it’s really a comic book) in any of the big stores at Christmas time and it would have taken days to order it. But Towne Center had it for me the next day! And I love supporting small businesses.

This is a great stop for any book lover, and the owners are very accommodating. A good selection to browse through. I hope they stay in business for a long time. Excellent children’s section.

Saldy bookstores are a dying breed, but you wont find ME with my face buried in my iPad or Kindle. There’s nothing I like more then browsing for REAL books. Funny, I never find something I’m NOT looking for when I’m online… but browsing book stores I always find something new. This place is great for when I’m not in Dublin satiating my comic book habit!

I love bookstores in general. I just feel very at home in bookstores, especially small, cozy bookstores like this one. They don’t stock just any book, but don’t think they won’t have something in the subject area you’re looking at.
They have bestsellers, local books, books that cater to the interests of Pleasanton residents, and a pretty big selection of children’s books for a small place. I was really intrigued by their book on the Alameda County Fair… you just don’t walk into a chain bookstore like Barnes and Noble and find that on the shelf.
You also get really good service here.
Support your local bookstores! Don’t let them become victims to technology!

Didn’t plan to come in here but since we were walking down Main St. marveling at the many eateries and local shops, we decided to walk in here to see what we can find. I was actually looking for a book for my Daughter because she loves to read and she could definitely use some new selections of books — who doesn’t want more books, right? I can read all day!
This bookstore isn’t very big but it is big enough to satisfy your literacy needs. There’s a fiction area, a nonfiction area, a very big and nice children’s area, an area w/​all the cookbooks, historic events and historical figures, and etc.
What I love about this bookstore is the welcoming feeling you get once you step in it. I was greeted immediately and was asked if I needed help looking for anything. the staff here definitely did not go for the push/​sale method and I was quite comfortable browsing and saying, «Aww. what memories» as I made my way through the children’s area.
At the end my Daughter picked a level 2 book and a rock star journal type of thing. the prices here are similar or the same even to corporate giants but I would much rather invest my time and money on a local place instead. originality, sincerity, ambiguity. I experienced a top-​notch experience.
After the transaction I had a brief chat w/​the nice lady and even asked for her suggestions on the different activities I can get my Daughter to engage in since it’s summer.

This store hosts great presentations by authors — small group format so you can ask questions and really learn about authors. Towne Center hosts several of these programs a month.
Nice selection of books — and can quickly get you any book you need — they helped me track down some hard to find books for holiday gifts. I had them in hand in just a few days.

Every writer has to have a home bookstore and Towne Center Books is mine. Judy keeps track of what I’m working on and is always the first store to stock my books with a talk/​signing. She knows and promotes all the local authors, making sure we get premium shelf space.
The store is a strong supporter of the Pleasanton Library and sponsors local events. Couldn’t ask for better.

The comfort of walking into a real book shop is not something you forget easily. Just as others before me have said, this is a warm, welcoming and knowledgeable team in a real live book store with people and not look-​alike islands of stuff.
I was able to do most of my limited Christmas shopping here and found exactly what I wanted to buy.
Great location in the middle of Old Pleasanton, small enough that you feel like it’s 1968 once more. You will not be disappointed.

Talk about a great bookshop … when you walk in here you suddenly get a flashback to the days before the takeover of stores like Borders and Barnes and Noble.
The store is in downtown Pleasanton in an older building so the floors creak as you peruse the books. Someone working there will always greet you and ask if you need help finding anything. I don’t think someone has ever OFFERED help at a chain store. you have to go hunt it down.
It’s also always great when the staff aer avid readers and book lovers because they’ll have great recommendations for you.
Occasionally they have authors come speak and read. I was in attendance once when Jim Davis of the Garfield books/​cartoons came to sign books and talk. Really neat!
In addition to books they also have a selection of stationary and cards. It’s a great store to pick up a thoughtful gift or a book to read for yourself.

Judy is the best! This store ALWAYS has something good to read the moment you walk in. Better yet, the staff actually READS the books that are for sale and they give you great recommendations. This is a great place to pick up a good read — or just to browse without the large «chain» crowd found at the «other» places.

Cute little local bookstore, conveniently located right next to Washington Mutual bank. They have the best sellers and some great local books too. I’ve found some stationary here I can’t imagine living without! I love their seasonal items and picked up my Christmas cards here last year. The best shop to peruse downtown! They have a good kid section too. Also the owner is an extremely helpful, friendly guy to talk too. The floor does creak in some spots though, and don’t forget to check out the back of the store. I’m a happy repeat customer.
