This place is not Portuguese. It is an American breakfast joint that happens to have owners who named if after a Portuguese muffin. I asked if they serve bolos and the waitress said no and tried to tell me that bolos are pancakes. Bolos are in fact muffins. Other than that, my omelette was standard and the homefries are good. All in all I am more so disappointed that they claim to be something that they are not or better yet do not serve.

Bolo is a favorite spot for many reasons. Their food is delicious and reasonably priced. It’s not your typical two-eggs-any-way-with-bacon-and-toast(which you can still get) or sandwich place. Everything is a little more interesting and delicious. The staff is always friendly and efficient, and I love the bright orange and blue interior. It’s a fun space. I can’t help put press my face up against the bakery case glass every time I’m in there. The cakes are jaw-dropping, the cookies are enormous, the pies and other sweets are gorgeous. I always leave with something. They are my go-to local bakery. Parking is always easy; I’ve never had a problem with street parking.

This place is awesome! We were looking for a place to eat, and with all the positive Unilocal reviews we decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed. The pastry cases full of delicious sugary goodness had us overwhelmed, but we decided on a canoli and a strawberry cheese danish, which were both delicious! Their breakfast is also amazing, but beware the french toast is GIANT so only get one piece!

Friendly staff! We only did take out, the donuts did not let us down! Family-owned and you can tell the pastries are crafted with much care! Can’t wait to go back!

Not the first time here but forgot to post last time. Clean, fresh, inexpensive and the service was great. Loved my eggs with the fried potatoes and hubby had the egg sandwich with Gouda and prosciutto. Only negative was that my bacon wasn’t cooked to my liking but they were so busy I didn’t say anything. Next time I will proactively ask for it to be well done

Delicious food and low prices. Service was a little low key and I was surprised that they use margarine on their toast. I want to go back for my boyfriend’s birthday cake!

Amazing bakery and an amazing family. I have been going to their bakeries since I was a little girl. Being Portuguese it’s great to be able to have some favorites. I also had my baby shower cake made here and it was amazing.

It pains me to even write this but I am losing hope in Bolo. I’ve been there a few times recently and each time the woman up front has been consistently rude. Each time, she has rolled her eyes as I look around the pastry case & constantly asking«are you ready to order??» I’m sorry, but you can’t expect someone to look over 3 cases of sweets and be ready to choose as soon as they walk in. And, I have gone at times that are by no means busy. We were the only ones in that section of the restaurant all occasions. And, I had asked for a strawberry and cheese Danish clearly marked on the case only notice(when I was home) that it was only strawberry! I mean, it was still yummy but still, you want what you pay for(& drive over for!) I will try to give them another shot but I don’t think anytime soon.

Really good breakfast food and bakery(we didn’t try lunch, so not sure about that). The décor is nice and clean and its very reasonably priced. The service was also friendly, if a bit scattered. We’ll definitely be back.

I stopped in shortly before 10AM on a Wednesday and was disappointed by the nearly empty dessert case. There were some Danish pastries so I purchased a pair — one each strawberry-cheese and cheese-pineapple. The cheese/pineapple Danish was jumbo in size, but the strawberry-cheese was the clear winner in the flavor contest.

Really nice breakfast bakery with Portuguese twist. I love spots that bake their own goods son this one hits home for me. The place is nothing fancy but that works for breakfast, it’s definitely busy so don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot. Be ready to order when your server comes to the table and go their to enjoy the food.

I was first attracted to the great affordable prices they offered! But when their food tastes just as good, it’s a win-win situation here. A nice casual diner to get breakfast or lunch in peace. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the buttermik blueberry pancakes with eggs and a side of home fries Pancakes were huge and tasty. I got some butter and maple syrup on the side. I didn’t get my eggs over medium like I wanted but that wasn’t a big deal. Home fries were alright. I ordered an iced green tea but they didn’t have iced so I got mine hot. We also got a complimentary water.

Not a huge fan. Everything looks like it would delish— decorated well and just so yummy looking in the bakery. But, unless it’s a fruit tart, I’ll pass. :-(too heavy on the«creams» and some pastries lack flavor.

I have come for breakfast 3 times and each time they have messed up my order — a bacon + broccoli omelette shouldn’t be too hard to make. I miss the old Rogers Bakery that used to be in that location. This new bakery doesn’t have it for me.

Can I really be the only one that hates this place? Ugh. Ok so, I wanted to love it bad. I’ve driven by it and it always looks fancy and inviting. WELL, yay or me, I just started working around the corner. SO, to celebrate my second day on the job, today was gonna be THE day I treated myself to some yums a la bolo. So I walk in and start looking at the menu. A Cubano? Cuban style pork with pickes? YES. YES. I want it all in my mouth right now! Woo! So I order that to go, with fries. While that’s cooking, I spy, out of the corner of my eye, a huge chocolate cupcake(and I mean HUGE), covered in peanut butter mousse and pieces of chocolate. Ok, so I’ll take one of those too. So I go up to the counter to pay, and they polietly wrap it up. $ 14.25 was my total(no drink)…that stung a little but I don’t mind paying higher prices for really good food. Let me stress the really good part. So everything comes out(in a timely fashion), and I head back to my office. I open the box when I get there and I am SOFREAKINGEXCITED to stuff this in my mouth. So I chew. And chew. And chew. What am I chewing on. I kind of open up the sandwich. It’s pretty much bone dry except a little squirt of yellow mayo. My «cuban style pork» is a joke. There is two pieces of pork on this thing. It tastes like I’m eating a Portuguese roll, which would be ok because I love those, except I wanted a sandwich. A few bites later I just said the hell with it and tossed it, whatever I’ll eat this cupcake for lunch because lets be real, I didn’t get this awesome figure eating salad. I start kind of nibbling the peanut butter mousse off the top. Not too bad, except it tastes nothing like mousse, it tastes like frosting. I hate frosting, that’s why I ordered the freaking cupcake with the mousse on it. Oh well, last shot lets try the cake. HOWLONGDOYOUPEOPLEKEEPYOURCUPCAKESINTHECOOLER? TWOWEEKS? The cake was bone dry, hard around the edges, I actually spit it out. I’m a fat girl. If I’m throwing away food and spitting it out, we have a serious problem.

Prettiest, most unexpected, elaborately divine birthday cake ever! For the absolute affordable price! Taste and aesthetics were more than present in my delicious marble cake filled with chocolate hazelnut ganache and covered in sweet vanilla buttercream. The way the cake was decorated was like no birthday cake I’ve ever had — purple and white gum paste flowers accented with edible sugar glitter. Happy Birthday was written on a nice fondant banner. My boyfriend ordered the cake the day before in store which was a breeze. The 6″ round more than fed 10 adults and was too tall to fit in the cake box. If you don’t have the foresight(of one day) to order a cake ahead, there are many elaborately decorated equally delicious I’m sure cakes in the case the likes of red velvet, carrot, and cannoli. Service is super friendly in Bolo and parking in downtown Plainville is easy. We’ve been back to enjoy many a giant cookie. Such a great bakery — and this is coming from a baked good snob who thinks she knows it all. So there.

The pastries are filled with light, fluffy cream, The waitresses were pleasant and worked as a team. The food was hot like the red desert sun, For breakfast you should bring a special someone. I LUV doughnuts/donuts(however you want to spell it) with all of my heart, and I was told Bolo had some of the best. Came for breakfast one day and had a great experience. When you walk in there is a bakery area to the right with glass cases packed with pastries. To the left there is a restaurant area. Before I sat down I went to the right to pick the perfect pastry to compliment my breakfast. Ended up with a doughnut PACKED with light, sweet vanilla cream. Imagine 8 overweight clowns trying to fit into a Fiat 500. That’s how much cream was in this thing. It was topped with chocolate frosting like an éclair and that was topped with dark chocolate chunks. It was phenomenal. For breakfast I got egg, cheese, and Spanish Chorizo on a hard roll. Pretty darn good as well. We had 2 to 3 waitresses serve us during the course of our meal, but they were all great. The first one knew everything about every pastry they had in the front. She also gave us the option to choose between the breakfast and the lunch menu since we came in the early afternoon. I loved the flexibility. A nice breakfast complimented by a great doughnut? I’ll be back.

Have had Bolo bookmarked for a long time, but I finally made it in today for lunch. The space is divided in half– with a good sized bakery on the right and the café on the left. The café isn’t huge –it has 10 tables for either 4 or 2 diners, and 9 counter stools. Service was prompt and friendly as I was asked for a beverage choice the minute I sat down. For lunch I had a cup of Corn Chowder($ 3) and a Chef Salad — $ 7 for«baby mixed green salad topped with turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese & chopped egg with choice of dressing». Interesting –no cucumber, no tomato, no green pepper, no onions, none of the many things you find on a typical Chef Salad. Well the food was good– I enjoyed the creamy comfort food goodness of the corn chowder and the Chef Salad was a pretty good value for just $ 7. After lunch I perused the delectably tempting bakery side and saw all sorts of cupcakes and babkas and cookies. I caved in and had a chocolate covered macaroon. It was sooooo good.

What a stellar place! I’m so so happy I was finally able to stop in for breakfast on Sunday morning. This fantastic bakery/café with Portuguese flair hit the spot with my avocado-chorizo-cheddar omelet and brioche-pecan french toast. I sat at the counter with two friends and marveled over the fabulous menu, fabulous prices, and irresistible bakery case. As I was heading to a birthday gathering an hour later, I picked up a gorgeous cannoli tart from the bakery case before departing. This would have cost $ 40 at Whole Foods or a comparable place, but this magnificent confection only set me back $ 24 and was so clearly homemade and just plain perfect. Other whole specialty pies and cakes/tarts run from about $ 20-$ 40 and the quality is so worth the reasonable cost. Pastries, breads, cookies and donuts line the pastry case and more impressive confections(even wedding cakes) adorn the back counter. Despite the sugary decadence, it’s a pretty no-frills atmosphere, which I’m certainly a fan of. Hoping to return for breakfast or lunch again soon!
