New Man’s Karate is dedicated to the highest quality of martial arts instruction. We are committed to address modern self defense, exercise, real-​world street survival, and a realistic approach to self-​defense situations. We build a student’s confidence through achievement of real skills & provide an environment of positive relationships. We offer success-​oriented teaching techniques that encourage our students to achieve their personal goals. By focused repetition, students learn to respond favorably under pressure.

We offer an entire SYSTEM of martial arts that is a mix of several traditional styles which builds a well-​rounded martial artist; Kyokushinkai Karate, Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, Mui Tai Kickboxing, Escrima, and Military Hand to Hand (to name a few).

Since 1994, we offer UNLIMITED classes at ONE membership price. Whether you are looking for self-​defense, greater flexibility, or simply a fun, fitness-​oriented activity your whole family can participate in, let us help!

History

Established in 1994.

Scott Newman began New Man’s Karate as a family oriented facility that emphasizes the needs of the individual student so each person’s training is successful and personally rewarding. We maintain a class size of 15 or less so every student knows they are a part of our family and not just a number. We have a wonderful core group of students who attend regular and train hard.

We have flexible class schedules with 8 beginning classes throughout the week, the LOWEST rates in the area, and classes for home schoolers. We also host a number of free extra-​circular activities throughout the year such as; annual Santa Cruz Summer Beach Training trip, Swing Dance Parties, Christmas Party & more.

It is a privilege and blessing that we can teach the Martial Arts full time and be able to focus on our students’ success. We offer Tiny Tot Classes (ages 3 – 6), a NEW adult only Hand-​to-​Hand Combat Class, and Martial Art Classes with the oldest student currently at 74 years.

Business Owner

Scott Newman began his training under Professor Michael M. Foley in 1984 and received his Black Belt in 1993. In 2003, «Shihan» Newman married his soul mate Laura, and they have three children who all began in the Tiny Tot class, and are currently moving up the ranks in the beginning classes.

Shihan Newman is currently the rank of Fifth Degree Black Belt. He is also ranked under the American Jujitsu Institute (AJI) and in Serrada Escrima under Master Instructor Edward Bansuelo a Forth Degree. He trained with the late Thomas «Tim» Deen (1944 – 2004) and also traveled to various places such as Japan, Hawaii and others to train with numerous instructors of varying disciplines.

Shihan Newman continues the development of Koden Kan Martial Arts and continues to refine it’s ever expanding curriculum.
