It is always enjoyable to find a restaurant that is unique. The Pinehurst Track Restaurant is unique. The GPS system had trouble finding the restaurant. The restaurant is near the harness track and horse stables and the small dirt road used for entrance to the restaurant is not clearly marked. The restaurant is informal and payment is cash only according to a sign on the register. It is a concrete block building close to the stables and just across a small dirt road adjoining the harness track. The morning we were there, the restaurant was filled with golfers intending to enjoy the Pinehurst courses. The breakfast is inexpensive. I had two blueberry pancakes for $ 4.00. Breakfast for three came to about $ 21.00 plus tip. The pancakes were buttermilk with plenty of blueberries. They were not very sweet and tasted like flour. Not bad but not as good as FirstWatch or Cracker Barrel. Eggs were well cooked and potatoes were real potatoes and not frozen. The décor is eclectic, generally American with photos of baseball greats Thurman Munson and Roger Maris, a flag for Oklahoma State, pull down shades, a strip of wall paper showing American scenes from 1890’s or so and a poster of a Monet painting. Horse stables, a harness track, concrete building and very informal 1950’s Americana diner style makes for an interesting breakfast. Food was pretty good, service was efficient, informal and friendly but with little fanfare and little small talk or description of what is available from the servers. For those looking for an inexpensive breakfast in a unique location and want an experience other than the omnipresent American chain restaurants, this is a good bet.

Stopped in for breakfast one morning after seeing the reviews, plus a recommendation from a local. It’s an essential part of the golf experience in Pinehurst, and I wanted to love it, but I thought it was just ok. The building is made of concrete block, so the noise that reflects off the walls makes it hard to carry on a conversation. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, and my husband ordered the Horseman’s Special. Both meals were fine, but nothing to write home about. Did I love it there? No. Would I go back? Probably, because it is quaint, and I like supporting local businesses vs large chains, and of course the proximity to the golf.

I guess you can’t always tell where quality food is by reviews. So many seem to like this place, I’m wagering that it is the low cost of the menu. That said, you get what you pay for and it’s dumpy food in a dumpy place. Nothing exciting, nor anything I coudn’t cook better at home… why bother? disgusting coffee!

I’ve been going to this place since I was a kid. It is just what you expect on the track, a small breakfast joint with all the staples. Eggs, grits, bacon, coffee. The inside feels like it was the place the 1960s forgot but that’s part of the charm. The waitstaff is pleasant and your food is always out quickly. Its best if are an early bird because this place is definitely not open late.

Been going here every year for several and its just a comfortable place to be. Golfers, horse people, locals who know and a kitchen and serving staff that just want you to be happy and on time. Two poached eggs, potatoes, link sausage and the occasional blueberry pancakes with a bottomless, always full, cup of coffee, make my day. You will love it!

Quaint local breakfast spot right off the race track. Food is great and very modestly priced. Casual environment with friendly staff. The bathroom sink is oddly placed outside the stall. Otherwise, great place for a morning meal.

This place is an institution around here. Just basic food prepared expertly. I always order the fried eggs, sausage, potatoes and biscuit. Wifey usually has the same but with bacon and grits. Can’t go wrong with anything. But remember this place only takes cash

Love this place! It’s like coming home, and it’s a fabulous deal! If you’re new to the area or just visiting, don’t miss this. The wait staff is super friendly, real southern hospitality, and the very casual atmosphere is just right. My kids love it and can’t wait to come every summer when we’re here. The breakfast portions are generous and the coffee is flowing. Love their biscuits which are huge and buttery, and the blueberry pancakes are awesome and stuffed with berries. Other typical eggs and bacon type breakfast offerings are just the right mix of greasy and flavorful that you’d hope for at a diner type place. Note that they take cash only, but we often do breakfast/brunch for four on $ 25 :)

This is surely one of the top 10 restaurants in the Village of Pinehurst for breakfast. They get 4 stars for food, pancakes were some of the best ever, eggs done just right, choice of link or patty sausage, we had link and it was quite good. Picturesque setting right on the harness track, on a Saturday morning there were five or six rigs out on the track. Atmosphere inside is three stars at best. Concrete block building, casually dressed wait staff, very loud, but friendly. Patrons are a diverse crowd, tables are clean, you may have to wait for a table. An excellent place to bring kids, with horses, sulkeys, barns, no through traffic and formica tables. Not as good a value as the Pine Crest Inn, but certainly well worth an occasional visit. Restroom was clean but so small that you must decide what you are going to do before you go in, as once you close and lock the door, you can not change your mind. Note: CASHONLY. In the days of the proliferation of services like Square, I personally find this an arrogant lack of sensitivity to customer service.

Cheap good food. Diner food. Great option for a quick breakfast. 1st come 1st serve seating so you may wait and it is small. Servers are friendly and work hard. Been there several times. Always a good to during pinehurst visits.

PTR is a good place to go for a casual breakfast. I waited a while to try it because I figured that it would be really expensive and fancy. Wow was I wrong. The location is great — in Pinehurst, right next to the carriage track — but they must be serving the cheapest food around. And to top it off, they had a vegetarian sandwich that was pretty good. I got the veggie sandwich and french toast. I’m glad I got two things because the french toast was terrible — don’t get it. But the veggie sandwich(which tasted like a Ruben) was great and only cost about $ 4.

I think it’s safe to say you don’t go to the Track for it’s food. But hospitality, they do have. I’ve been here twice with my parents and by the second time they remembered my name, where I was living, and what I was studying. If you’re looking for local charm, it’s a must. But if you’re looking for gourmet brunch where you don’t have to walk through the kitchen to be seated, try one of the golf courses :)

The Pinehurst Track Restaurant could be a food lover’s dream. It is off the beaten track, a tiny cement building and packed with locals. The kind of place where you can’t wait to go back again. Well, this joint not so much. I am sad to report, weak coffee, my pancakes tasted like oil off of the griddle. My eggs and toast were fine, but the hashbrowns were just frozen cubed potaoes deep fried like french fries. The sausage was not brown either, maybe precooked or something and they ran out of grits. The upside is that it is very inexpensive. This restaurant could rock, I see the charm.
