The Westin Phoenix Downtown

The Westin screwed me over making promises they couldn’t deliver and wouldn’t own up. I took then to small claims court and a judge agreed with me. I live locally, but you’d be stranded if you were from out of town and they pulled the same crap. Don’t take the risk. Stay somewhere else.

Absolutely loved this property! I’ve been a big supporter and frequent visitor of Westin properties throughout the world. The Westin Phoenix Downtown is definitely one of my favorites. This was my first stay and visit to Phoenix. I used to live in Las Vegas and will be moving back in a few years, I’ll absolutely make it a point to drive out to Phoenix and stay at this property just because. Staff was attentive, patient, and extremely welcoming. The room was beautiful and well appointed.

Stayed here one night for a work event. Room was clean and comfortable. The room was very stuffy when I arrived — the AC was off. So I cranked up the AC — the room cooled off within 20 minutes or so.
Wireless internet access was reasonably fast.
The staff was very nice and professional.

My Westin experiences in the past have been a bit mixed, and when we pulled up to the somewhat dated-​looking valet parking spot, I wasn’t sure how things would turn out. Step inside, though, and you have a very nice fire pit right outside the entrance, with a very modern, cosmopolitan feel to the hotel lobby. The walk to the elevator was a bit on the longer side, but not a huge deal. The room is the real treat, though — fantastic cityscape views of Phoenix, with the mountains in the background, and a feeling of having a huge room because the ceilings are so high here! We had a standard room with one king bed, and it felt so much bigger because of the floor-​to-​ceiling windows. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had the same touches as other Westins I’ve been to but felt a bit more put-​together. I really like the showerheads that are affixed to the ceiling and drop straight down, and the showers here had that.
The folks at the desk were nice, although I’m not sure they are fully attentive. They did not email me my receipt for the stay (not a big deal), and they also didn’t even bother charging me for the overnight valet parking. Overall, a fabulous choice at a pretty decent price (probably because it was a couple days before Thanksgiving, with no events going on), and one that I would recommend if you’re just passing through town or staying in Phoenix for a while.

First time in Phoenix for my son’s basketball tournament this past July. Beyond impressed with our room and service!!!

Beware booking a room block here. They have unfair practices and play with the wording in their cut-​off date rules. Customer Service doesn’t appear to come first.

Stayed here one night for an Anniversary. Beautiful hotel and lobby with modern décor and great views of the city. Great location and proximity to downtown phoenix and other nightlife. Our room, which was the standard king, was VERY spacious and my husband was able to score a good deal through a third party site. We parked in valet because we got to the hotel very late, but I think there are cheaper parking garages and street parking available. We will definitely book again if we are in the area and can find a good deal.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever booked. I made a reservation the morning of the day I needed room so cancelation was no option. Once I made my reservation, I noticed I made a mistake so I quickly called them. The customer service was awesome, they immediately fixed the issue with no additional fees.
My room was a Corner Suite which had a spectacular view of the city. The room was modern and extremely clean.
Customer service was what really impressed me. From the moment I walked in I was greeted and helped with everything from luggage to checking in. Their parking is valet and are professional. If you are an AAA member, you receive free valet parking. If not, you need to pay $ 29
The gentleman at the check-​in was very helpful. Remember I made that mistake in the morning? It showed up again but he took care of it quickly. He informed me everything about the hotel from the key system to the restaurant. This information is something I take for granted many times but found it important at this hotel.
Concierge was great, they know who called and like the valet refer to you professionally. (Ex: Mr. Kang)
Bed is very comfortable, needed that comfortable bed to sleep in until 11am. Slept like a baby for 10 hours (be jealous).
Gas is cheap and they have a metro type train right next to the hotel, no different environment than downtown LA when it comes to unique individuals during the night.
The pool is small, no jacuzzi but seriously? You’re in Arizona. What difference does a jacuzzi make when it is so hot that the moment you step out the pool, you’re dry.

We were VERY happy with our stay at The Westin Downtown last weekend.
Although we were there less than 24 hours, we really enjoyed it! First, it was easy to find. It’s in a great location and within walking distance to Chase Field and other local attractions.
We booked the «Downtown Stay and Play» package via their website and it was a really good deal. It included Complimentary parking (they only offer valet and it’s normally $ 29 per night), 2 free drinks at Province, their restaurant/​bar (up to $ 15 each drink), as well as 2 1 day light rail passes. I noticed that the rate went down significantly while looking online and I called to see if they would honor the new rate. They did — which was great! So we got an even better deal.
We arrived around Noon on a Saturday. There was no line for check-​in and the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. They explained that the valet would be charged to the room, but routed off and also gave us vouchers for our drinks, along with the light rail passes.
Our room was nice, and large than I expected. There wasn’t much of a view, but we didn’t spend much time in the room, so it didn’t matter.
Overall, I would definitely stay here again and I would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Phoenix! Even though it was HOT in town, we were close enough to walk to Chase Field, the US Airways Center and PIzzeria Bianco without dropping dead from exhaustion!

I can say this is the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff from the parking attendants to the bartenders and the front desk crew are all extremely helpful and provide service with a smile. The rooms are amazing the bed is luxurious and the view from the 18^th floor is amazing. My only complaint is the cable there were several times in the evening when certain channels would stop working and say no signal check cable. For such an upscale hotel this seems strange. I hope they work out that kink before my next trip to Phoenix

Nice rooms especially the suites with the standalone tub. The lounge was mediocre. Small pool but a nice deck to sit out and enjoy a warm Phoenix evening

This is one of the nicer Westin. s i have been in.
The building seemed to have been planned as office space, so the rooms are really spacious and have 10ft+ ceilings.
The place has got really great views of the City.
Seems to always be booked up.
One thing I would have really liked to see is a much Larger pool, the pool that they have in there is the size of a kids pool at a motel :(

Highly dissatisfied! Prior to arrival we paid for our room in full, upon arriving the hotel held $ 100 for a security deposit– I get that. What I don’t get is why in the world they charged me an ADDITIONAL $ 91.32.
Before checking out I called down to the front desk and the woman, Shaina, said it was a mistake, that it wouldn’t post, upon checking out, can’t remember with whom we checked out with but she said it was our bank and the only reason she knew that was because she worked at a bank before. HA. Ok. So after checking out we realized we left a few items behind, called the hotel they confirmed and said they’d hold our belongings. So the next day we went to pick up our items, inquired about the additional fee and we basically got an «I’m sorry, send us an email & we’ll look into it».
I called the following day and everyone gave me the round about, Maribel said it was never posted to my account when in fact it was and I was clearly able to see that right on my phone!!. I spoke with her twice before she said «I’m sorry at this point it’s nothing we can do call your bank and see if they can release the authorization» mind you it wasn’t an authorization because it had actually posted to my account and taken the funds! She kept saying that my card was never swiped but I told her it had to have been to have such an odd charge. I told her I get the $ 100 security deposit as it is normal for most hotels to do & I got that right back, but $ 91.32 isn’t normal.
So I take her advice, call my bank and after talking with them for over 10 minutes they concluded that Westin Hotel definitely charged me the $ 91.32 the transaction was cleared and funds were withdrawn. So now I have to make like a 5^th phone call to Maribel who upon answering my call told me she already put in to have the funds reimbursed To my account for the $ 91.32 that I was over charged!!! Would have been nice if she gave me a call to let me know they found the error and that it was on behalf of the gentleman who checked us in instead of having me call my bank and do all of this extra work. I was frustrated, stressed, annoyed. I think it was poorly handled. Everyone gave me different answers. I ended up doing more work than anyone else whose attention this was brought up to!
I’ll never stay at this hotel again, & it’s such a shame because other than how disorganized this company is, the room we stayed in was beautiful, but was DEFINITELY NOT worth the trouble it’s taking me to get my money back!

I really like Westin, so I booked my stay for couple of days to attend an international conference.
Comfort: Very much. I believed I asked for a higher story and I got 12^th floor. Great view for the eyes. Nice bed. Wish pillows could be a bit firmer. Very quiet floor for good overnight sleep.
Convenience: 15 minutes’ drive from PHX Sky Harbor Airport; 10 minutes’ walk to Convention Center; 3 minutes’ walk to ASU; 5 minutes to local restaurants and bars, and 1 minute to a Metro station. It is close to other large hotels, all located at the center of the city.
Services: Staff are very responsive to questions and requests. They deliver bottled water and meals in very short time’s notice. Towels are replaced in gym while I didn’t even see working staff around so that I can be myself on treadmill. This is good. Advice to front desk, I’d be better having more eye contacts and smiles when with customers while working on computers.
Facilities: The interior design is bit out of line with other Westin I stayed. I’d with it has a more contemporary style. I could still feel the traditional feeling before the hotel was converted into Westin. Although gym is not huge, but equipment are new and thoughtfully positioned so that I don’t feel it’d be crowded even if it’s fully occupied. Ceiling to floor windows let sun in and perspective stretches far. I dined in the restaurant Province but will have a separate review about it.
«Make a Green Choice» program. This is the best feature I’d recommend to those who use your room at minimum and keep your room clean. I received $ 5 voucher each day for two days that I asked not to have my room cleaned. I keep my room tidy and I want to be a customer of choice, too:)
Always something to improve. Just like every stay anywhere, we all see potential to be better. One major issue was that I found my room was not closed the last day of my stay when I came back from a conference. The safety latch on the frame was flipped and blocked the door from being fully shut. I assume someone went in and took the food tray away, flipping the latch to keep the door open so that he/​she could get out with hands full. But didn’t turn around and locked the door after he/​she was out of my room. I didn’t lose anything so I didn’t report to the hotel. The other issue is that I was charged two-​nights of valet parking but I didn’t even drive a car. I called the hotel at the airport an hour later after my check out. It was swiftly corrected and I received updated bill via email after I got home.
Although this is a business trip and the price per night is above $ 200 without breakfast during the conference week, I wish my experience would be more up to the level of the price level. Overall this is a very decent hotel for a very comfortable rest.

I visited here for a quick 2 day business trip. The room was nice and comfy. Nice staff and nice little outdoor patio type place for drinks.
Location wise, it’s a very convenient 5 – 10 minute walk to the downtown Phoenix area.

The Westin Downtown Phoenix aesthetically is appealing, hotel is new, clean, room was comfy but front deskdestination is in disarray!
We made a request at the time of booking our reservation for a microwave so we could heat up milk for our infant and steam bottles during our stay. We even called in our long drive in to see if they were able to fulfill our special request and front desk said yes.
Upon check-​in front desk agent confirmed that our request would be taken care of. We get to our room, Item wasn’t in room. Bell hop happened to be the same guy that checked us in and he said they were short staffed and that microwave was on its way.
3 calls of «its on the way» and 2 hours later we finally got our request.
By then our baby was way off feeding schedule and hungry. We were beyond tired from our 7-​hour road trip in followed by a bad start at Westin Phoenix.
Working in hospitality myself I understand the business and that mistakes do happen but this was one promise after another for something so simple.
Jason, front desk manager called up to see what happened and offered a room service snack. We decline the food but accepted coffee as our in room coffee was not working.
We are Starwood Members and if it’s not a Four Seasons Hotel, we’ll use our Amex points at Westin.
During our stay this week (3÷3÷2015) hubby made up his mind, and I agree, we will not be staying at this Westin in the near future, if ever again.
P. s. The guys at valet were personable and efficient, especially Tucker. Note: Valet, or self park is $ 29.00/day.

My husband and I booked a corner suite here for Valentine’s Day. We stayed on the 16^th floor and the views… the views! The room was very nice and modern and the staff was friendly and inviting. Valet was pricey ($ 28/​day) not sure if that was because of the Valentine day weekend or just the regular rate.
The only downfall here was the room service. Once we got checked in we ordered a couple of beers and ice to be brought up to the room which never came until I called and asked where they were. They were delivered about 5 mins after that. It was Valentine’s day night so I can understand them running behind but it also happened the next day when we ordered dessert. Instead they ended up calling us and admitting they were running behind and would be comping it for us.
It was still a 5 star experience overall. We would definitely stay here again.

Good stuff first — The room was amazing! I want to give it 5 stars just for the room. My husband and I stayed here the night of our wedding and we loved the panoramic windows, soaking tub, and rainfall shower. The hotel also left us a nice fruit and cheese tray in our room for when we arrived.
Not so great items — While we were waiting to check in and I was still in my wedding gown with our luggage in hand we had trouble at the front desk because my father was the one who booked it for us and the clerk was explain to us how he should be with us because it was his card… Really I’m standing in my large wedding gown on my wedding night and you want to explain to us that there is difficult letting us have a key because the cards under my dad’s name even though the room is under mine. That was finally settled after about 15 minutes. Then we ordered breakfast in the morning which detailed an order of 1 pancake and coffee with a side of sausage. They handed us a bill for $ 60! Afterwards when we left we had to pay for parking so we did so on our card and they still billed my father $ 25 – 30 for parking anyway. I had to go back and forth with the manager to get the charge reversed finally.
Would I stay again– Sure because it’ll be on my card but I would make sure to go out to eat.

I have stayed at many hotels in the US and abroad. The Westin Phoenix is 5 star from the beginning. The hotel is centrally located downtown in the heart of the city.
From the cozy modern rooms to the fabulous outside patio that serves dinner until midnight.
If you are an SPG member the hotel has a fabulous club floor lounge that serves drinks and snacks all night and breakfast in the morning.

Visited to watch some baseball and I love Westin hotels. This one was no exception as we had a fast check-​in and their lobby smelled calming (which I later read in their welcome book is on purpose!). We had a great view on the 13^th floor and the room we had was one of the biggest of any of our Westin stays. Wish we had stayed longer than one night.
The bed is by far my favorite part. It’s just so comfortable. The shower is fantastic, too, with a rainfall showerhead and plenty of counter space for all your toiletries and travel things. The shower door swings, so make sure it’s closed as you step out of the shower or you can create quite a puddle right outside the shower door. The robes are also mighty nice.
We did not choose to park at the hotel as valet is always expensive. Right across the street (catty-​corner, really) is a large parking garage that allows you to park for 24 hours for $ 12, which is a great deal. Since we were there to visit Chase Field, it worked out perfectly since the ballpark is in walking distance.
Since it was raining when we arrived, we had the valet call us a cab which didn’t take long at all. Wish the weather had been better or we may have taken advantage of their outdoor patio space. If you’re headed to downtown Phoenix, this hotel is a perfect option and nice value.
