LIMITEDTIMEONLY! This pop-up shop & gallery is the newest addition to Roosevelt Row and features clothing and artwork by two local urban pioneers. The shop offers locally-made, original works of art, urban street wear, hip-hop apparel and accessories. Now, I am by no means this«street» myself, but I got a killer 11th Monk3y t-shirt in XXXL by local street wear designer, Bboy veteran and artist Ruben«Herx» Gonzales. Looks FANTASTIC and I’ve already gotten compliments on it. Yes, I cut off the sleeves. The space also features amazing artwork by local Artist, Bboy, and founder of «The Rise Project», Joseph«Sentrock» Perez. The shop has a bigger purpose as well — 30% of the profits go to fund The Rise Project, a youth program offering teens classes in learning and performing Hip-Hop elements: Beat Making/Rhyme Writing, Break Dancing, DJ’ing, Graffiti Art, and Hip-Hop Choreography. The Pop-Up Shop will be donating 30% of all proceeds to «The Rise Project», supporting continued access/classes to the inner-city youth. According to the owners, the pop-up shop was inspired by the spontaneity of street art and will only be there a scant 2-months in the current incarnation. The Rise Project is collaboration between ASU Downtown College of Public programs and City of Phoenix to bring arts to the teens of central PHX. Due to funding cuts, The Rise Project lost significant subsidization in this economy and urban youth are directly impacted by this, so get yourself some original works and feel good knowing that you helped the local community, youth and economy in the process.
