Our #1 specialty is in the research, engineering, design, and manufacturing of custom built torque converters for high performance racing and street applications.

Our Powerglide, TH400, and 4L80E transmissions are among our best selling transmission products. We also have a wide variety of product offerings for Ford and Chrysler applications.

We have torque converter and transmission options for applications producing anywhere from OEM horsepower output to 4,000+ flywheel horsepower.

History

Established in 1971.

Hughes Performance was founded in 1971. Founder Bill Hughes, Sr. began the humble beginnings of this company in a small shop that rebuilt OEM torque converters. Bill’s son Jim Hughes took interest in the design and engineering of torque converters for racing purposes. Jim’s involvement in the company took Hughes Performance to the next level, and resulted in a dynamic change within the company that quickly elevated Hughes Performance to the upper echelon of high performance and racing torque converter manufacturing. The time came for Hughes to jump into the transmission side of the industry. Enter Bill’s son Jeff Hughes. With Jeff’s in-​depth understanding of automatic transmission function as well as his machining abilities Hughes Performance enjoyed immediate success in the high performance and racing transmission market. Hughes Performance employs 30+ people and continues to proudly manufacture the finest torque converters and transmissions currently available in the aftermarket.
