I totally hear Susan about being from Chicago and seeing a chain restaurant try and pay homage to something she holds dear. She probably watches and seethes as people go nuts for food that’s subpar compared with what she knows back home. Its exactly how I feel when I travel to other places and see people with what they think are real cheesesteaks. But I must respectfully disagree. I just added the newest Pizzeria Uno location — on Route 73 South in Maple Shade, NJ — to my list of favorite hangouts. I met a girlfriend there for drinks and dinner last Wednesday night to celebrate her closing on her first house, and what a perfect place to hangout on a weeknight! Sure there’s likely to be some hole-in-the-wall place in downtown Chicago that serves better deep dish pie, but here in Philly, we’ve got UNO! Good food, good service, bartenders who remember your name and see to it that everything’s okay… try that at T.G.I. Friday’s!

Booooo! Come on Susan! It’s not THAT bad. True, I’ve only been to Chicago once, but Pizzeria Uno MUST be given credit for: 1. Having no transfat in their food. and 2. Having really awesome music from the 80s and 90s rocking on as you eat. To be honest, this is the only corporate restaurant that I will ever voluntarily eat at. But alas, thanks for the tip on the dry ice pizza. I might do that when I’m bored one day!

As a Chicagoan, Pizzaria Uno is a disgusting example of Chicago style pizza there, and it’s even worse in airports and in other cities. Order a Lou Malnati’s pizza online and call it a day. They ship it to you on dry ice. I’m getting a heart-shaped one for valentine’s day.
