Travis County Tax Office

I can second Christina G’s review as I saw numerous people miss their place in line and get treated like garbage. I was lucky enough to not miss my number, after waiting 2 hours, but was treated very rudely and spoken down to This was my second experience with that and I will not be going back. If you have such a small location and are asking customers to take a number and wait outside how about you have a number display sign on one of the outside windows so that people don’t constantly have to open and close the door to check the status? The place is over crowded and filled with arrogant, self-​important, rude employees who obviously have no fear of losing their job. Recently I’ve been making the longer drive to the large facility, which has 20+ employee stations. The longest I’ve ever had to wait there has been a half hour and I luckily have not had to deal with any rudeness.

Pflugerville happened to be closer than the old airport office this particular day, but it certainly wasn’t faster. This tax office location is tiny and is bundled with a community center and social services center. When you see the bingo sign and the flags flapping, just drive around back. Country living at its finest.
You have to walk in to grab a paper number and then watch the wall monitor closely to see when your number comes up, because they don’t call it out.
There were over twenty people waiting that day and only three employees working the counters, so most of us waited around for an an hour to get our car titles transferred or registration stickers or whatever mildly unpleasant task we were attempting.
There aren’t many chairs inside, and the number indicator outside wasn’t working, so those of outside had to continually peer through the tinted windows to keep an eye on our turn. No outdoor seating except the ground.
They accept checks without an additional fee and credit cards with a 3 percent fee, because the Great State isn’t going to absorb that bank charge, you are.
Luckily I had a check and all my docs and my turn went quickly. The Airport Blvd location has a bigger staff, more seating, and a better number call system, however, so if you’re thinking you’ll save time driving out here, you might want to reconsider. Too bad they don’t have a true north Austin location.

Went there ⁶⁄₈₁₅ hrs post on the internet 8−5pm was closed at 430pm. Typical Government agency! No Clue.

Watch your numbers!!! Because your whole day and your next day will be sacrificed.
This place can be pretty chaotic. Waited over an hour and realized my number was skipped so i waited patiently till i could ask them what to do? Well the lady smiled relly big and said you need to get a new number and wait all over. Rude! an very unkind people.
So I was really hurt and upset so I left because I was on my lunch hour and had to go back to work and could not wait in line for another hour and a half.
What is the whole point of getting a ticket and waiting in line for? Because obviously tons of people just randomly go up and say they got skipped for no reason and want to jump ahead of everyone. Oh wait maybe because you can’t hear them call the numbers. My bad. I just wanted to hangout in a random line, treated like a child and go home a happy camper.
Day 2
Today I went again to get my registration sticker and I heard this lady say her number was skipped or she did not hear her number called and she went up to the window. She asked what she should do and the lady Said no problem come right up I’ll take care of you. I was sitting in the same seat i sat in yesterday stared at the lady and felt really bad that they treated me like crap but could treat another person differently. Obviously this happens on a daily basis and they choose who they want to be nice to and who they want to be mean to. I looked at the lady who ignored me yesterday and smiled because she knows what she did to me and smiled again… And wanted to be real nice to her and thank her for being so awesome… but what can I do except let it go and get the hell out of there and never turn back

I am so happy we have a Pflugerville location! The staff in Pflugerville are always professional and gracious, even when we customers get angry because we didnt bring proper documentation or because lines are long. I have seen several incidents where customers cause a scene in front of everyone over something that is no fault of the staff. The staff always keep their cool… The Airport location in Austin is also fabulous! The wait is not bad at all because they have so many reps, they just keep the customers moving! I am so thankful we have gracious hard working people that serve the public.

The wait is short and the employees are patient. God bless Yvonne, who not only listened to my stuttering explanation of my complicated dilemma without a single eyebrow raise, but also actually retrieved the proper paperwork and FILLED IT OUT FOR ME. Thank you, thank you, thank you tax office gods.
Bring cash; for the use of a card, they charge a $ 3 convenience fee (for charges under $ 100) or a 3% fee (for charges over $ 100).

The wait time was fine.
As with everything in Texas, the rules in Travis County are different from the ones in other counties. Where we were expecting to pay $ 52 dollars up front and $ 90 within 30 days, we were actually in need of $ 180ish dollars or so. Not their fault that I didn’t have enough money, but the attendant definitely could have been kinder about it and just explained that it’s different here than other counties.
The Texas State Government website is not at all helpful when trying to determine what you’ll need in Travis County. So the Tax Office website for the county is the best resource:
The woman did misquote to me how long you have to get a new license. According to the DMV it’s 90 days. She insisted it was 30.

No kidding ! I was in and out in 3 minutes. They even have a drive thru window, how cool is that. Too good to be a government office !

Maybe it’s because I am so used to waiting 2+ hours at California DMV, but transferring my registration from CA to TX was so much easier than I expected at this office based on other Unilocal reviews. Granted, I looked online to find out exactly what I needed prior to showing up… Maybe others should do the same and they will have the same experience that I did.

In terms of wait time– this office is great.
Everything else however is absolutely horrible. The short blonde woman, I believe Katie is her name, mentioned in many of these reviews is exactly what everyone has said. She is curt, condescending, rude and a terrible person to interact with. I understand that its not the most fun job to have but i would expect some form of politeness. Not only was she rude and unpleasant, she also gave me the wrong information TWICE forcing me to come back again (after going to the larger Airport Blvd. office where they also misinformed me– at least the guy helping me had a better attitude.) Her response to misinforming me was «whoops» without even a glance in my direction.
I do not recommend going here and if you do– avoid the short blonde.

Why cant we just privatize everything? Everyone knows these bureaucracies are complete nightmares dealing with which lack any potential to be a streamlined, efficient business. I try to come into these places with an open, friendly attitude but of course as soon as I entered the place there was a long line with people pissed off because they were here several times before being told something different every instance. Then of course my name came and I gave the worker my legal pile confirming I was who I said I was in several forms with a vehicle confirming the obvious we spent at least 15 minutes explaining what each piece of information represented. Really, what put the «cherry on top» so to speak was a week later when I started getting spam in my mail which had intimate details which ONLY the DMV had. Great to know they are handling my personal information well!

Amazingly organized and efficient office!

Katie at the Dept of Tax office, the short blonde, was rude and condescending and is an embarrassment to a office that serves the public.
I went to the tax department to register my car and get new plates. Katie was not helpful. She spoke down to me telling me the documents that I brought was unacceptable. The second day when I showed with the documents that she demanded the first day she took them from me, marked them up with a highlighter held them in the air — shaking them at me telling that the information was invalid. My insurance company said they provided me everything I needed and if there was problems the tax office could call.
I understand there are polices and process but they should be communicated in a professional manner. After my business was finished I stood back to watched how she interacted with the next CUSTOMER (yes we are customers) Her behavior and mannerism was pathetic… so it is my perception this is the way she treats everyone. Do your self a favor — Got to go to the Dept of Tax… avoid Katie, the short blond, and you may have a pleasant experience at the County Tax Office.

Well, I had to go there two days in a row (because the first time I was missing some documents). Both times, the place was not that busy. I got called up right away. So, it’s fairly quick.
Unfortunately, the lady I worked with was curt, condescending, and had a stank attitude. Doing chores like vehicle registration are already no fun… the least they can do is be pleasant and patient. It’s not my fault you hate your life.
If I knew her name, I’d call her boss because it’s really unacceptable for an employee to act like that in a job that requires so much interaction with people.
Overall, a convenient but unpleasant experience.

Wow! Jon and I had the same experience at the Travis County Tax Office in Pflugerville. Just like Jon, I hadn’t even finished writing my name in before they called me over.
Now, I was really dreading registering my car in Texas, mainly because I’d had a name change since my car loan and they refused to change my title or registration until the loan was paid off. Well, I paid it off this autumn, but then New Mexico wouldn’t correct my title because I no longer lived there.
I took about 2 filing cabinet drawers worth of documentation in with me… and hardly needed any of it. They put all the info into the system for me, did the correction on the title, ordered my personalized plates, issued my paperwork. All in under 10 minutes while being very friendly and nice!
Wait a sec… this was a car registration experience? No way!!!
If you live in Travis County, you need to go to the Pflugerville office for all your car registration needs. They.Just.Rule.

It seldom happens that any state-​run office will get one star from me, much less four, so it must have been a blue moon on a leap year when saturn aligned with neptune, because I am giving this place props!
After many hateful and threatening letters from lovely folks at the California DMV reminding me that my registration is expiring, I figured I better get my papers in order here in TX. Growing up here, I have fond (read: foul) memories of the long lines and strange smells of the DPS. So, I was utterly confused when I learned that I had to go to the tax office. What is this tax office? I already did my taxes. What’s up? You’ll never audit me, f*ckers!
I went to the Williamson County tax office in Round Rock which is close to work and after waiting for 20 minutes in a small dingy room on plastic kindergarten chairs, I was told that I can’t do it here because i’m a Travis Co resident. But of course. Process driving records for a neighboring county? We don’t have the technology for that – that is the stuff of science fiction movies.
So I drove my very visibly irritated self over to the Canada of Travis county, aka Pflugerville. Walked into the pretty-​much-​empty office there and before I could finish writing my name on the sign-​in sheet, the lady asked me — «I can help you over here sir.»
I did the goofy DeNiro thing where he looks around, cocks an eyebrow and says «Me?»
“Yes sir. You.“
A few minutes later I was being handed my license plates (wow — I remember having to wait for them in the mail before!) and being told «you know, we can waive these extra fees since you’ve been registered in Texas before.» SUHWEET!
In conclusion, Pflugerville Tax Office, you turned a painful experience into a much less painful one. Pfreakin’ A.
