We loved it.; First time there. The Sushi chefs Jay and Nyng were great even though they were obviously under pressure. the Sashimi and Sushi was super fresh and very nicely cut large portions. This will be our go-to sushi place in P’ville.

I had a date night with my hubby. I tried Beef Sashimi which is great. Loved it. The fried calamari with spicy mayo was awesome and the salmon rolls with crab meat was outstanding. Service was quick and personable. Overall one of the best evenings we’ve had in a while.

Tonight was great. Didn’t have to wait long before we were seated at a grill. Our chef was nice and tried to joke around with us even with the language barrier. I had the steak and chicken hibachi combo and it was delicious! My gf had the cypress sushi roll which she loved and it was good even to me and I don’t like seafood! Always a good experience here. Guess I’m just lucky by reading other reviews! But I recommend it

Being a frequent customer of Ichiban on Burnet rd and Odaku Sushi on Parmer, I am quite a sushi expert. Shogun Grill was absolutely the worst sushi I have ever had in my life. I’ve had better sushi from a 4 day old sushi roll from Randall’s. Even the miso soup had spoiled tofu! I never ever throw away food, but I only managed to stomach half of it before throwing away the rest. Don’t be tempted by the groupon. Buy a bag of noodles and stay home and eat it! Trust me!

Extremely disappointing experience. Prices are good, but even good prices can’t make up for indifferent service and cold food. Maybe it’s my fault — but when I order shrimp and my husband orders steak — I expect the food to be hot, I don’t expect«refrigerator cold» food. We told the waitress the food was not hot, she took it back and said something to the cooks. A few minutes later, she brought the food back — hey… improvement, the vegetables were at least«room temperature» — Sent it back AGAIN and asked for a bill for the watered down diet coke. Never once did she apologize and the manager was too busy giving me dirty looks — that he didn’t apologize. It’s easy to tell when a restaurant gives up and just doesn’t care anymore!

No one came to seat us. We were handed menus by the bartender and was pointed to a seat. All the tables were dirty except for one in the corner. No one came to get our drink order within the 10 minutes we were sitting there, and they weren’t even that busy for a saturday. Maybe four tables and some hibachi tables. And I mean, no one came to our table. Three servers were standing around the bar socializing after several servers saw us sitting there with no drinks. We ended up leaving bc of the lack of service. Probably won’t be going back.

The dish is about average and nothing comes good! The charge is fair for daily lunch! So I would give it 3 stars! But the service is so poor with some terrible attitude! During 50 mins dinning period she only came by once to ask then she is gone like back home off work! Both of our tea are all finished. Do we have to ask for more or why she can’t just come by to ask since we will tips! But trust me there were only 4 tables taken so this was not busy excuse! Then finally we have to wave our hands to her to get our ticket to be paid and it felt like we are waving for a yellow cab inside a Japanese restaurant… awkward! .Thank god she said«thank you» when we dropped the ticket ! So I gave it 2 stars minus!!! Plz hire someone nice then we don’t mind to go back again!

To give myself and two other friends something to do on a very rainy windy day, I decided to look on Unilocal for a fun restaurant to go to. I came across this place and thought, why the heck not, lets have some hibachi tonight!!! Plenty of parking available in the area(located in a shopping center) We made a 730 reservation and while waiting for our friend to arrive, two of us sat at the bar. The bar was nice, and the white wine was decently chilled. The bartender could have been a little more attentive and didn’t seemed to be too experienced in my opinion. The place in general is very big an spacious. Very clean bathrooms, I love the sink in the ladies room! Idk why I felt the need to point hat out but apparently I just wanted everyone to know that. I think it is kind of cool you have the choice to eat food at a regular table or do the whole hibachi experience. Of course we decided to go for the whole hibachi experience. After our other friend arrived, we were immediately brought to our table? Grill? whatever you want to call it. Ashley was our waitress for the evening and she did an outstanding job making sure our party had the best experience. She was professional, attentive and extremely nice from start to finish. We started out with an appetizer – their crab rangoons, and they were absolutely delicious. I decided to go for the banzai dinner which was teriyaki chicken, steak(medium-rare) and shrimp, total cost was around $ 28.00 The dinner came with an onion soup and a salad with ginger dressing. The salad was awesome, crisp, delicious and fresh. The onion soup however was a little bland in my opinion, definitely could use some more flavor. The dinner show was fun to watch and entertaining. I have been to places to have put on more of a «show,» however it was still a great experience. The guy we had made a lot of funny jokes, but more importantly – he made amazing food!!! The fried rice, veggies, the steak chicken and shrimp all cooked to perfection. The sauces served with the meal were also nice as well. There was actually a lot of food on my plate and as full as I was, I couldn’t stop eating. Overall, it was a great choice and so happy I had the chance to come here. Without a doubt, I will be back!!!

I have eaten sushi all over the world and with that being said this is the worst place I have ever been. The miso soup was weak, the service was terrible and I felt taken advantage of when I got the check. Additionally my daughter got sick eating some sushi. there are much better sushi places in Pflugerville that I would recommend.

BEWARE!!! If the menu says crab meat BEWARE its imitation!!! I won’t be back! I’ve been a few times, it was just ok, today NOT!!! We got a Shaggy roll. It says crab meat on top, it has a few slices of imitation, it says rolled in sesame seeds, there were none, it says shrimp tempura inside, it was half fried empty tempura with no shrimp wraped by rice! They are not the only people who have that roll, but that was disgusting! The sushi guy behind the counter said nothing, no personality at all. Worst experience ever. I told the manager that I’m not here To buy imitation shit, he says some people are allergic to crab, LMFAO!!! Really! If your allergic to fish would you sit at a sushi joint??? I told him that’s is the worst answer I’ve ever imagined. To make things worse, I’ve been in bed ever since. I GOTFOODPOISONING!!! We had a plate of assorted sushi, 11 piece. Some of it looked freezer burnt, so we left half of. ITWASFREEZERBURNT!!! Find another place, there are so many to choose from. Hope I feel better tomorrow I’ve never felt so crappy burping up fried tempura stuff ewwwwwwww

Below is what I emailed the Manager of Shogun. I brought my family in tonight to celebrate my sons 10th birthday. I have to say, this was the worst experience we have ever had at shogun. It started off with the chef twirling a knife and a spatula like he was 105 years old. My son could have done a better job than him. Then, there was the poor attempt at lighting the fire, making a volcano and a bunch of under the breath comments and grunts. My wife and I couldn’t believe that we paid $ 85 to see what I would call a rest home show. Then there was the waiter. He took the orders, brought the soup, someone else brought the salad, gave everyone chopsticks except for my wife. I asked him to bring her a set and it took forever. Then, not once did he ask if we needed refills on our drinks, except for my wife who was drinking wine. And I’m sure that was only because we had to pay for every glass she drank. I had to ask for a tea refill for me and a soda refill for my son. Halfway through the meal, I told the waiter that it was my sons birthday and he said«ok», so I figured he had it covered. I was wrong. He disappeared for a short while then right away brought the checks for everyone and told us to have a good night. 2 minutes later he was back to see if everyone was ready to pay the bill. This was the quickest service we experienced all night. My wife said«what about the birthday»?? «Oh», he said, then rounded up everyone to sing happy birthday to him, AFTERALLTHEPEOPLEHADLEFTOURTABLE! On my way out we noticed one of the other tables chef. He was happy, cheerful and putting on a great show for them. We were on our way out, when I decided to put a note on my receipt and leave it at the hostess stand. The hostess wasn’t there, she and other workers were huddled around talking to each other at the end of the bar. She did look at me and took notice that I put a note on her stand. And I’m sure she didn’t let you see the note, because I put my phone number on it and I still haven’t received a phone call. I’ve always said, when a business isn’t very busy, you will get the worst service of your life. Shogun proved it tonight. There were around 25 people eating and your wait staff decided that talking to each other was more important than waiting and talking with paying customers. If you don’t celebrate birthdays or want to give good service, please put that on your website, menu or front door. This would alert everyone wanting to celebrate that they should take their business elsewhere. If you care to talk about this, please give me a call at 512-xxx-xxxx. Date: 2015-10-06 Time: 8:02 pm(when my credit card was swiped) My order number was 106258 Server: Jorge Table: H6 My next stop on the web tonight is Unilocal

While we always enjoy our Japanese Steak house this one was less than meets the eye. The location is great and we were able to get in right away which is abnormal for a good steak house. Our cook was just okay, I felt he did the minimum and just wanted to get it over with. Especially, when we watched the cook at another table who was very lively especially, when you have a child sitting there. Please, at least entertain them! Our food was pretty good. I know we are going to eat the leftovers tomorrow which is always a plus. We also got the volcano sushi roll and was a hit with even our seven year old.

I would have loved to try the food but apparently I was not dressed correctly. We walked in to an almost empty restaurant and were looked at by the guy behind the bar like we had 3 heads each. I realize we just came from the water park, but I was wearing a sundress over my swimsuit. Plus, we can’t have been the first people that have been there directly from the water park! We were seated in the dining area where a few tables were finishing up. I saw at least three waiters walking around. We looked at the menu, had a few discussions about what to order, looked at the menus again, decided what beer to order. It was then that we noticed we had been there at least 10 minutes without anyone even bringing us water. The two guys in the kitchen were looking at us and smiling, then looking away. I looked around, noticed two tables had left and no new patrons had walked in, so what was the problem? We didn’t wait around to find out. We chose instead to leave and find a place that wanted our money. Never again Shogun!

Loved the place. I sat at the hibachi grill. Of course, when wanting to sit at the grill they seat you with a group of other people. I ordered the Banzai dinner since I wanted steak, chicken and shrimp. It comes with the onion soup, salad, veggies, and shrimp appetizer. The onion soup had no flavor whatsoever. Very bland. I added pepper and soy sauce in attempt to add some flavor. The salad was good! The chef was cool but I saw anothet chef there that was very into putting on a show! The waitress was amazing. she refilled my drinks quickly and was very attentive to the group. The Banzai dinner was amazing! The mustard sauce for the steak and chicken was delicious. Not a fan of the brown sauce for the veggies though. Everything was so good that I can see myself going back for sure and I recommend it to anyone in the mood for teppanyaki or teriyaki.

Shogun is personally my favorite restaurant. The food is GREAT. High quality in food.(A bit on the expensive side, but you get soup salad, & your entrée so it is worth the money you pay) The experience I recently had with shogun was a bit frustrating. We were waiting for about 25 minutes when there were open tables available. We were told they were understaffed which is understandable. When we finally got seated, our server was everywhere but at our table. Our water clearly needed refills. Each time we got a refill it was someone other than our server. She rarely went to our table. I tried to be understanding that maybe our server was having a bad day but sometimes you need to put that aside. Anyways, my experience will not stop me from referring others! :)

The saki tasted watered down. This place smelled ‘sour’ and seated right away the chair was greasy/dirty which the hostess took right away. The one sushi chef I saw behind the beverage bar and wiped his face/nose with one hand then went back to make sushi whatever. YUK. Seriously? This was disgusting and had I observed that at the beginning of my meal I would have left. I come from San Diego and know my sushi. I had the Gyoza(pork fried dumplings) to start and they were soggy and greasy. Grease was pooled on top of them. I told my server and she did not remove it from my bill. Then the Houston roll with spicy tuna. The tuna was so mushy. It was okay over all but did not rock my world. A good attempt for beginners. The server recommended the Lobster Bento box. They take the lobster out of the tail and sauté it then put it back in the shell. Served with deep fried onion rings and shrimp, vegetables. It was to be served with soup and salad which I never got and did not realize it until now when I reviewed the menu for this review. Hmmmmm? Nice. I went there last Thursday night. Pflugerville has limited choices for restaurant and the quality may be due to the demographic but COMEON people!!! Let’s get some good restaurant competition here as I am tired of driving to other areas when I want a quick dinner. Oh, another note, what is with the Pop/Rap music and sports TV in Japanese restaurant? I was confused where I was… :)

I was very impressed by my experience here. The set up is nice and open. The chef that cooked for us was pretty cool. He was not just our chef but a comedian!!! My favorite quote from him: «Japanese vegetables… from HEB». HAHAHANICE. The food was really good. The steak I had marinated in the juices he cooked with came out to be packed full of flavors. From their house made butter to their«authentic» vegetables. Everything was delicious. I would go back soon but it’s kinda far from my side of town but I do want to hit it up again. Peace and Good eating my friends.

Honestly, I think I was spoiled by their higher-end version, Taisho, in Sugar Land… so maybe I am a tad harsh on my rating. I was so excited to find out that Shogun was owned by the same company, but I have been very disappointed. I have been here multiple times and most times the food is mediocre at best. One time, I ordered Teppanaki Steak and got Teriyaki Steak. When I tried to get the order corrected, I was told that is what I ordered and the waitstaff ignored me after that. I couldn’t even get a drink refill. The most disturbing experience was when a large bug ran across the hibachi grill… this was my last visit!!! Management was proactive, killed the critter and moved us to a new table but never actually cleaned the grill that we witnessed. They were setting it up to seat customers there when we left. Ewwwww!!!

I have to give this place a 5 star! I Don’t know why this is only a 3 star rated place. I almost didn’t go here because of it. I had dinner at the grill(hibachi). It was great! Better than most of the ones I been to Austin/Dallas/Houston. We had a party of 5 and it was very enjoyable. I celebrated my birthday dinner here and it was a first for my parents. They loved. I would most definitely come back. The food was great and the experience was awesome!
