Niko’s Reef

This store is were I got my first clownfish and started my first saltwater tank going. Now I’m still doing the hobby and these guys have been helping me. The guys here are nice and know what they are doing. Lots of freshwater and saltwater stuff come here and you won’t be let down.

Best service, knowledgeable staff, great prices on coral frags and fish. Long drive for me but well worth the trip!

Best fish store in Austin if you value customer service, enthusiasm and actual knowledge. I’ve purchased my entire reef stock from Niko’s, everything has been healthy and well identified. I’ve caved a couple times and bought an emerald crab and a diamond goby from Petco. The diamond goby is dead, the emerald crab is now alabaster white. Emerald crab I bought from Niko’s the same week? Dark green algae monster.
When I was setting up my tank, not only did the store owner let me use a bunch of 5 gl buckets to fill it, he stayed open past close to let me get more water when I ended up short.
I have to address the 1 star review. Clearly this person does not know how Unilocal works. Niko’s is overpriced, yet a north Burnet store that is easily 3x the cost is 4 stars. Huh? (I got my betta there for $ 20, great store, not cheap).
I’m a complete beginner in the saltwater world and even with my obsessive internet research, there’s no chance I’d be even a fraction as successful as I’ve been without the assistance of the Niko’s staff.

Love this place! I’ve actually become good friends with most of the staff since they have open. Love the spot on check in program they use, gets me discounts just for visiting! Love their coral selection never let down. Check them out.

Not impressed at all. Small store that is totally in disarray. Zero organization with very little stock. Maybe 20 tanks with way over priced fish. I suggest going to the aquarium store on burnet rd. Not to mention dirty, disorganized and dark.

Decent store. Good selection, particularly their coral selection. The staff was very nice. They have a LOT of tanks to look at and their prices are good.
It’s kind of a fire hazard! They have open plugs everywhere and the floor is concrete and would be very slippery if wet. I think if they fixed these things, this would be the best LFS in town.

Great place! I have been looking for some live plants for a tub garden. The big boxes had a few individually packaged in tubes for way too much money. I did not know of any other aquarium stores in the area, but did a search anyway just in case. Niko’s popped up and I am so glad they did. They only had a handful of plants at the time. I bought them out for $ 3.00! The cheapest individual plants at the boxes ranged from $ 4.00 up. Besides the good price I also got to see the plants actually living in water; not in suspended animation in a tube. They offered to add any types of plants I wanted to their next order and call me when it was in. This is exactly the kind of independent store I love. I neglected to get the names of the two men who were there that day, but I would not be surprised if one of them was Niko. They said they had opened in February. The store is still a work in progress; not as sterile and pristine as the boxes, but that is not a negative in my opinion. It will be a joy to watch this labor of love grow.
