Self Salon

This is one of the best salons I have been to… and I’ve lived in a lot of cities! The atmosphere, the staff, the owners are so upbeat & positive. There is no added stress by any type of drama that can be at salons. I also love the fact that when I walk in I’m not blasted by House or Hip Hop music. (and I like both) It’s calm, relaxing and they do a great job with my hair! Katey is great with my color & cut — It THE place to go to if you have curly hair!

Great salon, very good energy and very friendly staff. Thank you again! I’m typing this review on their free wifi while my girlfriend gets her hair cut. She refuses to have her hair cut anywhere but here and I totally understand.

Update 2015: Unfortunately I believe Brittany no longer works there so I have been seen the last few times by Jackie. She is easily the best hairdresser I’ve ever gone to. Very attentive, detail oriented, quick, and masterful at cutting curly hair. I recently went to Self Salon to get a dramatic cut and Jackie made my frizzy mess into a beautiful modern sleek look. I couldn’t be happier with the service!

I had my haircut by Austin 3 weeks ago, after a great recommendation. I have a very short haircut and I an extremely particular, because any mistake shows up on my hair. From the moment I entered the Salon, I felt at ease and very welcomed. Austin asked lots of questions so that we can make my first experience enjoyable. Pam and Carlos, both the owners, also made it a point to stop by and introduce themselves while I was getting my cut. I will definitely be back and I plan on taking my daughter so that she can experience the Quidad method haircut for her curly hair. This is a professional, knowledgeable and family owned salon and a great find in Pensacola!

Hands down, I have never had a better haircut or color. Mandy is absolutely amazing. I keep my hair long, and she completely respects me wanting to keep my length when I go in for trims and shape-​ups. In fact, she’s more generous than I would ask for, and she explained to me why, and is very direct and frank in her approach to my hair. I go in for trims about every three months and have been doing so for a long time. I have been to Mandy twice since January 2012, and I am hooked. I will not be seeking another stylist elsewhere. She is caring and talks to you honestly and candidly, but rest assured she is paying attention to her work. I have long dark hair, that’s not got much going on by way of a specific «style,» but her technique is unlike any other I’ve experienced. She put subtle layers in it, fixed a botched bangs job like the pro she is, cleaned my ends up while keeping them looking natural and not like they’ve been chopped in one fell swoop, and she does this technique at the roots that gives me volume that no product could achieve. She corrected my color on my ends that I’ve been working on for months now, and her color job has yet to fade (other corrective color treatments have faded within six weeks, and it’s not cheap). Their products are also top of the line, and they explain their every move and used product to you, so, as the patron, you know what you’re getting and why — IE her explaining my haircut/​color to me when I may have chosen otherwise. It’s disappointing to see someone’s mistake smear this salon’s rating — things happen — and it is certainly not reflective of their work as a whole. Carlos is extremely personable and helpful — no one here is «over the top,» they talk to you on your level — I think it’s refreshing. I never have a problem getting worked in for an appointment with my girl, and they’re never short with me when I have to cancel or reschedule… repeatedly. I love this salon. I recently moved from Pensacola to Mobile, and I gladly make the drive.

At first the staff was amazing. Very welcoming and great guest services. We were finally happy we found a great new salon. Well this was short lived when Brittany a very nice but very unskilled hair dresser screwed up my daughters hair up so bad we had to go back the next day and have the owner Pam try to fix it. Pam made up every excuse for the mess up from hormones to why the sun rises at 6am! OMG just admit your employee screwed up! They never took ownership of the hair disaster but attempted to fix it.. Don’t let their nice personalties and over the top friendliness fool you. It is all an act. I feel bad for Regina she does great waxing and if she ever leaves the Self Salon I would follow her. In the few months I was using them they had 2 employees leave. They hire inexperienced stylists so beware.

I went to Self salon this past week while visiting Pensacola from DC. Never having visited Pensacola, I went to Self by accident because they are now occupying the former Revolution Salon that had decent Unilocal reviews.
My experience there was great. I was met by one of the owners at the front desk who gave me a very warm welcome and offered me something to drink right away. My stylist was Brittney, and even though she was a bit late for the appointment (the first of the day), the wait was worth it. Sweet and talented, she was meticulous with my trim and layering. When she was finished, you could tell she was sincere when she asked me if there was anything I wanted changed, I didn’t, it was a fantastic cut.
Besides for being a great stylist, Brittney was great to talk to, easy-​going and engaging. A great deal at $ 33 for wash, cut and blow dry, I even received a thank you note in the mail when I arrived home in DC. I would absolutely recommend Brittney and Self to anyone visiting or living in Pensacola!
