Pines Ice Arena

I read so many bad reviews on this place but it is awesome the staff is friendly and very helpful on the ice and off the music is good and the crowd is live I saw reviews where people complain about the dirty ness but it wasn’t that messy and u have to understand that there is so many ppl in there of course things won’t be in order but I loved every min me and my family will be going back

After Unilocal-​ing around, I knew I was going to avoid the Kendall rink, so I made the trek to Pembroke Pines. I grew up skating on the west coast, and had pretty high expectations for Pines Ice Arena.
The building is shared with an MMA training studio, which now that I think about it, is probably a good idea. When we walked in, there is a single line to purchase your rink tickets (nothing identifiable, just a receipt). We arrived right at 3, so there was a mini-​discount. Our total for 2 skaters and 2 rentals was $ 24.
Once inside, I was bombarded with smells of ice, feet, and popcorn. Which is expected, but there wasn’t much airflow so it was constant. On the right is a rink that was being used for hockey games when we were there. On the left is the dark, loud rink for public sessions. When we tried to get our skate rentals, there was only 1 person behind the counter trying to help 3 families and a couple. Returned skates sit on the counter, and she was not spraying them with any sanitizers before returning them to their shelves…
When we finally got our skates on and our stuff stowed in lockers ($ 1 for one-​time use), we were able to skate one lap before the buzzer went off for the zamboni to come on. Thank god, because the ice was incredibly choppy and «graceful» was out of the question. It was a quick process, and fun to watch the staff spin and dash across the ice behind the zamboni.
But on the Saturday afternoon we went, there were 5 birthday parties for little kids. And I mean little. My SO was sturdy on his feet, but between the private lesson happening in the center and the group lesson on the party side, he was tripped a few times. And skated into. And pushed. It was almost funny considering the size difference, but please. Could the staff not have moved the group session to the edges of the rink where there is more room?
We left after an hour or so, from both pain and annoyance. If there were adult-​only sessions, even just for 15 minutes, that would’ve been amazing. If the shoes were kept in better condition and sanitized between uses, I would come back. The main upside is that staff was helpful despite the chaos, checking on the kids that fell and bring ice packs and first aid immediately. Other upsides: the bleachers were surprisingly neat for how many people were sharing the space. But this rink is not for me.
And also note, snack bar only accepts cash.

My daughter takes group lessons and skates for the club. I love the staff and our Coach. Feel like a part of the family when we go. Clean, fun, and great place to take the family. Never had experience at an ice rink before here and this will be one to remember. Some great skaters here. Go team Pines Ice!!!

Employees almost tripped me. People are skating backwards fast and not watching where they are going, nothing’s being done about it ever. They don’t take cards at the food/​drink place. And the tattoo machine took my quarters. But I love iceskating and their hot chocolate is the best I’ve ever had anywhere.

I take my daughter for her ice skating classes and she loves it. The staff is helpful and the location and arena is clean and well taken care of.
They also have a cafeteria that helps the stay, specially a warn hot drink next to the ice.
If you wanna skate and have some fun at your own risk this is the place.

Full of little teens on Friday nights, so if you’re an adult, consider yourself a chaperone if you go this day of the week. Make sure you call ahead to learn about the crowd norms.

The place looks like it’s never cleaned. I would not buy anything at the concessions. It’s difficult to skate as they have coaches and students throughout the rink in the mornings who take up large portions of ice and the afternoon it is impossible with all of the birthday parties. It’s a very uninviting place.

The rink is a good size but they don’t clean the ice over a three hour session, so it’s crappy to skate after an hour and a half. they’re being cheap
rental skates were okay I’ve seen better.

Pines ice arena does a good job with its public skate, hockey and figure skating programs. Two areas of improvement are the snack bar, which needs to be remodeled and attitude of people running the pro shop. Believe it or not the pro shop controls the three TVs and the manager refuses to show Panthers games, he says he likes basketball better. Maybe he should run a pro shop in a gym instead.

This was the only ice rink I have ever been too so I have nothing to compare it to. I had a good time. Double up on your socks. My son got a big blister on his foot. There should be more or better refs. Some kids were skating in the wrong direction. There are lockers to put your stuff in. Didn’t have any food but the hot chocolate is good. All in all it was a fun time. I went to try to feel a little wintery being that it’s Feb. and 80 degrees out.

Great time for families! Don’t have much for first time skaters as far as stability aids or quick lessons. Also the direction of skating isn’t enforced so skaters sometimes skate directly into you which wouldn’t be good if you’re a first timer. Also they didn’t seem to keep people from speed skating which could get dangerous. Other than that though it was a great time. They have activities a few times a day such as chicken dance and dancing with Olaf and snow falling from the sky. Hot chocolate was great!

This is the only ice arena I’ve been to and it was pretty alright. Only problem is that the ice skates are worn out and gross in my opinion. I doubled up on the socks.

This place is defiantly a fun place to be with friendly staff, but everything seems old and nasty. Their skates are broken and smell horribly and their bathrooms are not useable. Out of roughly 7 – 8 stalls there was only one that was okay. The other stalls were either missing working locks or doors! Update the place and it will be worth 5 stars.
Also, if you plan on coming here to just watch — bring a jacket! It gets very cold when you’re not moving.

Just don’t go, bad service all around. I’ve been here about 4 or 5 times before I found the good places. Every time it was empty and depressing. It really does smell and the skate shoes they rent you are ancient, very uncomfortable, and smelly.
And there is nothing worse for a business than to call the people fat on a sign outside their doors.

I went here for the first and last time. The birthday party room had a disgusting smell. It was like smelly feet and mold all in one. The skates are so cheap and look like they are around 25 years old. The stereo system was just as bad as the skates.
Do yourself a favor and go to Incredible Ice which I would give 10 starts compared to this place.

At the risk of sounding old, I use to come to this place every week when I was a kid. Now that I have two daughters of my own, i figured they may love it it. I was right! I have brought them and some of their friends a few time, and can’t help but reminisce about the times when i was there with my friends. So I know just how much my girls are loving it! The prices to skate and rent aren’t bad at all. My only complaint was that out the the 3 times that i recently went, the last time, the man at register charged me $ 5 to sit and freeze my butt off while i watch my kids skate. The first two times I wasn’t asked to pay to watch. Hmmmm

One of my favorite places as a kid, and it still lives up to that spot! I love coming to Pines Ice Arena. Staff is friendly, the rink is big and it is never too crowded to the point where you can’t skate without bumping into someone (at least the nights that I have gone!), and they have great music.
Prices are fair, the offer private and group lessons, and I even think they have a men’s hockey league. Only reason this place is getting ⁴⁄₅ stars is because it is a little old! I wish they would renovate the café area, it has so much potential!

Staff is friendly but conditions
Of locker rooms are deplorable. This place needs a major face lift.

This is a great place to play hockey.
I know there are other ice rinks in the area that look nicer, and are actually in better shape, but this place is fine. I do not play for the NHL, my college days are long behind me, and this place will do just fine.
The ice is hard, and fast, except that there are ocasional problems in the summer, but since we live in Miami and are trying to play hockey, this is to be excused. The nets are always there, they clean the ice between each game, the boards are solid, the glass is not cracked, the benches all have doors and the safety catches. The rink supplies pucks, and there are always 2 refs for every game.
The locker rooms are cold, cramped and exactly like every locker room I have been in in every hockey rink of my life growing up back in the mid west.
The adult hockey league is well organized, not too expensive and a nice comfortable enviornment. it is hockey, they let us hit, there are fights, and goal scorers score goals. There is never a sense that things are getting out of hand, or that this is about anything but fun.
If you are looking to play hockey, I play here, and have had a ton of fun. You will as well.
Just remember none of us are playing at Joe Louis Arena any time soon.
