Halter Ranch is a 240 acre vineyard on a 1000 acre property nestled in the beautiful hills of Westside Paso Robles, California.
To this point we have averaged approximately 5000 cases of wine per year since our first vintage in 2002 while selling the remaining portion of our excellent fruit to other wineries in the area.
We have just completed a state of the art, gravity fed, winemaking facility which is to begin production with the 2011 harvest!
History
Established in 1880.
The ranch itself was established in 1880 by Edwin Smith, a wealthy merchant who shipped goods in for the town of Adelaida through San Simeon prior to railroad access. The original Smith farmhouse and barn remain on the property as monuments to its origins. Both buildings have been fully restored and retrofitted to preserve their original aesthetic.
Approximately 40 acres of vineyard were planted to the property in 1996 by the Macgillivray family who farmed the ranch after purchasing 1600 acres of the original 3600 acre Smith property in the mid 20th century.
Halter Ranch came into being in the year 2000 when we purchased the remaining 700 acres of property from the Macgillivray family. Since this transition an addition 200 acres of vines have been planted and 300 acres of the original Smith property have been purchased back from other local landowners.
700 of the current 1000 acres are an Oak preserve that is to remain untouched. The remaining 300 comprise our vineyard!
