Delicious food and fun ambiance but most of all, we appreciated how attentive the staff was. Score!!!

Really charming, simple little spot with a laid back atmosphere. We like to come here for breakfast. I favor the kale and lentil breakfast bowl. The bread of course is wonderful. And they have nice pastries. Indoor seating as well as a small patio(uncovered.) Limited menu but enough to keep us coming back. Today I had my usual kale lentil bowl and my fiancé had the ham cheddar panini with a fried egg on top. We shared a tart that had apricots and blueberries, really tasty, and not too sweet. Knocking one star because they don’t use organic milk. Although they do use organic grains in their bread, and organic eggs. Please switch to organic milk

Great place in this area! Food is great and bakery is even better. Indeed a lot bread can be sold out in the morning, so probably you need to plan to be there early if you are super into bread. My favorite is the oatmeal scone. For breakfast we also had the French toast, which was a little too heavy for me. And the chard and egg was very delicious. Espresso drink was okay, maybe can skip. The only problem is the service. Very slow. I think they need to figure out a way to run the order and get paid. I was waiting in line one weekday morning try to get some bakery. The lady working there had to write out the order, pick up the bread, and collect money, and the process is super super super slow! I was not in a hurry, so I’m okay of waiting for almost 10 min with only 4 people in front me. So if you are in a hurry, don’t come over here to get your bakery!

The one thing I can say for those who’ve had a «bad» experience: do ask questions ahead of ordering a meal, this way you won’t be surprised at how it’s made. Do not assume that it’s prepared the same way as everywhere else. But that’s a good thing! Staff are very courteous as well. I tried their option 1 for breakfast, eggs with greens; their lentils with kale and eggs; both really good selections. I’ve also tried their peach Danish pastry, of course paired with a cappuccino – and haven’t been disappointed. I appreciate that they use organic grains and make a great effort to mill them on premise. You might even sit next to a stack full of grain berries. Apparently they opened this location in late 2015; and lucky for me it’s right around the corner from where I live. I’m definitely coming back.

I only give 5 stars when I find the good exceptional! The owner Joseph goes out of this way to provide healthy food to the community. Grateful to have found Seed Bakery. I love that the grains are sourced from the farmers, that the grains are freshly milled at the premises, and are made the old fashioned way, through fermentation. So far I’ve tried the 100% rye, spelt, and a mixed grain bread they serve at the restaurant. All delicious! The quiche was unbelievably great! We went to meet up with Joseph and arrange to have his bread for our CSA members. Our clients love quality food and we are looking forward to adding Seed Bread to our subscription list. These are the type of businesses I enjoy eating at. Thanks for an incredible lunch!

despite the pros of this bakery’s bread, the cons are what make this my first and only visit to seed bakery. kalamata loaf, very very good & piping hot from oven. if condescending sanctimony is what you are looking for in bakery staff, then this is the place for you! if the japanese-american woman who waited on me, but not before implying i was lying that it was my turn, is the owner or manager, then i totally understand where all the other employees have learned their attitude from. no prices on breads in case, no price list on wall, no menu with prices listed for bread. if this were france, the bakery would have already been cited for non-disclosure. i guess they’re trying to hide the $ 7 price tag of the modest sized loaves. will absolutely not return to patronize this bakery, with its smug, self-satisfied, & rude staff. plenty of other loaves in los angeles offered without the attitude.

I really wanted to like this spot. It’s close to home and I heard good things about it. When I asked the gal behind the counter what ingredients were in a certain pastry she literally said«I have no idea». I think if you work there you should know at least what it’s made of maybe a customer has an allergy etc. Then we ordered peanut butter and honey toast to go, it literally was two pieces of bread with a big clump of nasty peanut butter barely any honey on it, it tasted horrible! looked like poop. Probably won’t come back :(

Amazing food, very fresh. Coffee is great too I had blueberry pastry and avocado toast(little too much oil for my taste), and ham and egg with arugula– it’s the must to try! Clean place with great service. Recommend!

I have yet to sit down and eat here, but I did pick up a loaf of bread, and I gotta say… it was hearty and lasted about a week out of the fridge. It was on the pricier side($ 7ish), but healthier than conventional bread. I’m happy such an option exists nearby! Parking is kind of cramped in the back. Also, they just got more signage, which is good because I kept missing it.

Tried a number of their loaves the other day. The Whole Wheat Rye was the best by far. Excellent flavor, very nice crust and crumb. Nicely moist inside, chewy crust. The whole wheat was pretty good, worth eating, but nothing that makes me jump for joy. The seeded ciabatta was very, very dense for ciabatta — nothing like the light and airy Italian loaf it should be. It was okay flavor wise, but not what I expected. The Kamut loaf was absolutely horrible. Gummy. No flavor. yuck. Avoid that one. Get the ww rye — worth the money, definitely. I am a lover of bread. Everywhere I go I seek out the best bakeries. This one is pretty good. It seems like they could benefit with a bit less hydration in their loaves(a bit flat and not as high and rounded as they could be, somewhat flat ears) and a bit more time in the oven(or higher temp oven). And ditch the Kamut. It is all well and good to have ancient grains — I am a big fan of them myself, for the most part — but they have to taste good.

Had brunch here with a friend and we were immediately smitten by their display of pastries and freshly baked loaves of bread. You can peep their bread making process as well and it looked all sorts of magical. One of my goals in life is to make bread on Sundays with my future kid(s) and this place was the perfect refresher of this seemingly mundane dream of mine. Ah. Service was prompt and friendly and our food came out in less than 10 minutes. Blackberry Custard Tart($ 4) — They had a bunch of these on display and it all looked oh so pretty. I’m glad it didn’t disappoint taste-wise. Avocado Toast($ 6) — Oh boy, I’m still dreaming about this one. I’m a sucker for avo toasts and theirs was exquisite! The avocado itself was perfection– creamy and lemony(just how I like it!) They topped it off with beets and a bunch of seeds/grains. Genius. The beets complemented the avo so well. Also a very nice colour contrast. *insert heart eye emoji* They of course used their own bread for the toast. Tasted so fresh. Ham, Cheese, & Leek Panini — My friend ordered this one and it came with a beautiful side salad with greens, edamame, and watermelon radish! Easy peasy parking situation. Park on the street or in their parking lot. Lots of pastries I have yet to try. Also, definitely would like to try their Schwarzbrot(this is German for black bread) or Dark Rye Bread and see how it compares to some of the best that I’ve had while living in Germany.

tl;dr: Surprised at how dense the rye bread was, wasn’t what I was expecting. Viennoiserie and other pastries are good but I like EuroPane better. Heels, watch out for the steep ramp in back… **** Really wanted to love this place but after an unexpectedly bad experience with their rye bread I would say that they still have room in my book for improvement. This was mildly shocking since this is supposed to be at the heart of what they do. Their rye loaf had just come out of the oven and I had made it a point to come back for it but it was incredibly dense, more than I think it was suppose to be even for rye(i.e. think pumpernickel). I was looking for a rye bread for a Reuben using my left overs from my St Patty’s day boiled dinner but this wasn’t going to work. We tried to salvage it as french toast but it turned out super heavy like a veggie meatloaf… =P I’m not a bread baker but I’m sure that it all has to do with their process… They don’t bake a lot of loaves of bread, once they sell out of the few they have that’s it for the day although you can call ahead to have them hold a loaf for you to pickup at your leisure. This involves more planning and less spontaneity on my part… Have been a couple of times and have enjoyed their pastries and coffee in the morning. The plain croissant is not bad and my wife said the pain au chocolat was good too, but I have a special place in my heart for Sumi Chang’s over at EuroPane’s. Also had a custard tart with seasonal blood orange slices which was nice. All of the pastry dough seemed just a little less buttery to me. The coffee is Kickapoo for all you java hipsters, it tastes pretty smooth to me… All of their stuff in the morning looks temptingly good, I have yet to try anything on their menu but everything sounds interesting. Someone here said that their prices are a little inflated and I would have to agree even if their rye bread isn’t…(wonk, wonk… sorry…) I don’t think it’s the Lavender and Honey crowd here. I think I’m going to give them a little time to shake out the process before trying to order the bread again. Other than that I’m down to have a pastry or an occasional chocolate chip cookie…

Delicious delicious! I got a loaf of the country and ate it over a few days. Even on day 4, it was still good(wrapped in a wax bread wrap) after a light toasting. I love the sourdough flavor. It was everything I was craving after watching the bread episode of Cooked on Netflix. I tried a bite of the roomie’s pear tart, and that was a real treat. They had just come out of the oven, so still dangerously hot. but it was the perfect level of sweetness and the textures were amazing together. Worth burning my tongue for. I could tell they put a lot of care into their baked goods. Definitely looking forward to trying other breads and pastries. Service was also very friendly. One weird note though, the bakery/café was really, really stuffy and warm. It’s probably from all the baking, but luckily we took our treats to go because I don’t think I could’ve sat inside to eat.

After being on a nutritional reset«diet» for over a month, I wanted to reintroduce gluten-containing breads and pastries that are made the way they’re supposed to be — with minimal, pure, organic ingredients, and using traditional techniques. Seed bakery fulfilled these qualifications, and introduced me to a whole new baking world! (+) Rustic Country Bread: Beautiful crust, with a pillowy, almost cloud-like interior. The loaf appears quite hard on first appearance, but it’s only to house the fluffiness inside. Smells almost like sourdough, but the flavor is uniquely distinct. A good sandwich bread, with a slightly rich, grainy taste. (+) Pear Tart: Holy crap, I was not expecting this to be freaking awesome! Granted, I was lucky enough to get one fresh out of the oven! Large, fresh pear pieces in the pastry, with some(toasted?) nuts on top. There was a hint of almond/marzipan too. Surprisingly, it wasn’t sweet at all, except for the fruit itself. The pastry crust was dense and nicely buttered, but it never left a sickly sweet or greasy taste in my mouth! A perfectly balanced tart, something I never thought I’d get except in Europe! I can’t wait to try their other treats as a comparison, or if it was just really good because it was fresh :) (-) However, their prices are a major deterrent for me…$ 7 for a loaf of bread, and $ 5 for a pear pastry. Practically $ 13 with tax for 2 items, I’m gotta have to find a way to justify these purchases… I also learned that they sell at the South Pasadena Farmer’s Market on Thursdays. Go there for more variety, since it seemed they brought more products there, rather than keeping them in the store.

Nice finding Seed Bakery at its location. The seating is limited for its hipster popular stats. They are new, so have lots of room for growth. Their drinks need to be refined as their coffee/espresso drinks are very diluted. New lunch salad. Missing some flavor/sauce. Would be delicious of some small tomatoes and mushrooms were added. I requested a pesto sauce and it made all the difference. An OK Vegan dish Their brioche French toast is a must try! Very good! Their bread quality is tasty. I will return at a much later time when they’ve squared a few things away. Keep up the good work! I would love to see this part of Pasadena gentrify.

This place is legit. All freshly baked, delicious and naturally leavened/fermented bread. The naturally rising bread breaks down more of the gluten and your body can digest it better. I had the avocado toast with marinated beets. The wifey had the mozzarella sandwich. Both insanely good with fresh ingredients and made with whole grain rustic country bread. We bought a loaf of this bread and it was still warm! The coffee was so good too. We were there around noon and it got a bit busy and they serve breakfast all day. As we were eating they brought out freshly baked olive bread. We’re getting that next! I found this place after learning about the practice of naturally leavening bread without commercial yeast. Basically how you’re supposed to be making bread all along with 4 – 5 ingredients vs 30 in commercially produced bread we buy at the stores. Seed ferments their bread for 18 – 24 hours. If you have a gluten sensitivity, try this place but maybe not commit to a whole loaf like us! Enjoy good bread!

I’ve eaten a lot of tasty breakfasts in the LA area, and I’m rarely compelled to leave a review, but this place is amazing. Simple dishes with loaves of house made bread. I got eggs and toast with a side of bacon. The eggs were deep yellow and buttery, soft scrambled, sprinkled with fresh dill, the bread was warm and soft and the bacon was perfect(all their meats are humanely raised at Creekstone, Niman, and Sun Ranch). Great lattes and friendly staff. So good.

Absolutely enjoyed the my experience. The food is delicious, locally grown and humanely raised. All the artisan bread offered is made on site and absolutely delicious. Personally I got the quiche of the day with whole grain crust which I have to admit was really good. I am a huge quiche lover and wasn’t too convinced about combining that experience with whole grains but was pleasantly surprised. My friend got the brioche french toast. I sampled a bit and again pleasantly surprised. I am not one for sweet breakfast foods and tend to stay away from but the plate was just the right level sweet. The brioche definitely made dish, providing a distinct flavor and texture that brought life to a usually standard breakfast plate. The place is a little small and easy to miss. There is lot for parking that can be access on Mentor(the cross street). The seating on the inside is quite limited, but the do have some seating outside in the back; not necessarily the best view and glam but seating none the less. The employees are quite nice and friendly. They were very helpful in gearing us to various selections and were pretty knowledgeable about the options they offered. The service was a little slow but with the quality of food I believe the only slightly longer wait was indeed worth it.
