I have been going to Monterreys since I was a young girl. we visited the one in Pasadena that used to be on Richey close to Southmore. That was a very long time ago… back then they put praline candies in the bottom of the chip basket for each guest… they always had just the right amount! We visit at east once a week at the Southmore location and are treated like family! It’s nice to go in and sit down and have the friendly excellent service each time. Food is good and usually pretty quick. One of my favorite go to places!

When I was a wee youngster, my family would go to Monterey House a couple times a month. It was my FAVORITE restaurant… We used to go to the one on Richey in Houston near Pasadena. The Monterey factory used to also be located on Richey. When I was a kid… I remember it being the BEST Tex-Mex one could ever want. I even requested to go there for my birthday dinners. In those days… they used to put Mexican candy in with the chips. There was four kids in our family… so I sure you could only imagine how we fought over that candy. Now it is a few years later… and Monterey House has changed to Monterey’s Tex-Mex. There is one located near where I work. They still pretty much have the same menu… it just isn’t as GREAT as I remember it. I think they have adjusted their recipes quite a bit over the years. Don’t get me wrong… they are still pretty good for a quick meal… but by no means do they rank way high up there on the Tex-Mex chain. The red and green sauces are pretty good… and the chips can hold their own. They are a little thicker than what you would usually expect to get… but they have a great corn flavor. I like to put salt and lime on them and eat them just like that. Delish! As far as their main dishes… I have only tried the chicken smothered in Chili Con Queso… It’s pretty good… Although, I would not recommend their beans or rice. BLAH! Neither of them has a good flavor… I could swear that today my beans tasted like they had margarita mix in them. What’s up with that!!! I understand two great tastes going together… just not in this case. Anyway… the service here always been wonderful… so maybe that is one of the reasons why I keep coming back… the wait staff is always on top of their game.
