Wait in waiting room — about 15 minutes. While there I asked if this would be covered under my insurance and the lady said yes (she looked to be about 70 years old to me — age for identification purposes only).
They took me in and his assistant did almost all of the testing — at least 20 minutes worth. Then Dr. Miller RUSHED in and spent about 6 min with me. He seemed like he couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I tried to slow him down to ask him questions. He answered perfunctorily and left.
Back in the waiting room, I presented my insurance card. Then the lady told me «Oh, we don’t take the insurance card as payment. You pay us today and send the bill to your insurance company and they reimburse you.» So I put $ 325.00 on my credit card on the spot, not worried as I’d soon get it back.
WRONG! It was denied by my insurance company as it’s a routine exam (annual routine exams for your body are covered under health insurance but not for eyes).
So I was stuck with a $ 325.00 bill and couldn’t yell at her because she weaseled me out of the office long before I found out she didn’t know what she was talking about.
With so many competent ophthalmologists in Pasadena, I’ll find one who isn’t in a hurry to get out of the room — it can’t be that hard to find ONE.
