Melt It! A Grilled Cheese Co.

Found this place on the fly. I looked at the menu and with all the choices it was hard to decide but decided on a great sandwich and the portobello mushrooms. Both were awesome and would definitely come back here again when in the area.

Service is great here. These guys deserve a tip and they mean well. My gripe is about the food. Found a freaking hair in the south carolina melt. If I wanted to find hair, I’d go to a Tibet hair donations place. I think some hair nets would do the kitchen good.
The sandwich itself is mediocre at best but not worth $ 9 something odd dollars. The meat itself was juicy enough but had an overpowering whisky sauce and the slaw didn’t complement it well either.
Lobster roll. It’s about $ 12. Mostly imitation crab. Enough said.

The Groupon didn’t include random items on the menu (like the Portabella fries). Seriously? Why? Really doesn’t look good and feels unsavory to have them pick out what I can and can’t have. If the Groupon doesn’t list exclusions at the time of purchase, it is totally not fair (and maybe not legal?) to spring exclusions on the customer when they come in to redeem…
Food was largely mediocre, with the exception of the fried snickers, which is heaven.
Will not return.

I love the food, no doubt… The service today leaves a lot to be desired… it’s Saturday about 3 PM no one greeted us, we are standing at the front for almost 5 minutes before someone comes to acknowledge our presence. A guy eating lunch at the last table finishes his food and walks up wiping his mouth to take our order. No hi. No welcome. No sorry for the wait. Just looks at us. I start to order, and he says «wait…what?» Seriously?! If I hadn’t waited too long to eat we would leave now.

My fiancé and I come to Pasadena once in awhile, usually for ipic theatres. Today we came for an event that was held at the Pasadena conference center. We wanted to try a place we never been to before and we started looking on Unilocal.He loves grilled cheese sandwiches so we decided to come here. OMG talk about a long overdue visit. We both had the mac n cheese grilled cheese with pulled pork, which was AMAZING. We shared some fries and the portebello fries. Surprisingly, the portebello fries are really good and I definitely recommend them. We had a fried snickers for dessert. YUM. I didn’t catch the dude’s name that helped us out, but he was very friendly and patient with us first timers. We live about an hr away but we will definitely be coming back!

This was my first time here and i am very impressed. The location is perfect, in Pasadena but not in the crazy of it all. Parking here is a little tough but they do have a small lot to park in or you can do street parking (Its a ONE WAY STREET). The place is very modern and very well kept. The vibe is welcoming and very hip. I tried the Sweet Carolina (Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese) IT was so Delicious! Cant wait to go back and try something else.

Cheesy goodness! I came here at about 6:15pm and it wasn’t very busy. My food arrived very promptly. The hand-​cut fries were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Can’t wait to try the Mac n cheese grilled cheese next time!

Although this place specializes in grilled cheeses, I come for the portobello fires. They are about $ 5 and sooo good! Reminds me of the portobello fries from Bottega Louie, but a fraction of the price.
I’ve also tried their grilled cheese and mac & cheese, both were just OK. The mac & cheese wasn’t creamy, but really oily. I haven’t had one of their specialty sandwiches yet so I would still give one a try.
It is street parking only, but that is easy to find. I also wish they were open a little later than 9:00pm.

A Grilled Cheese is comfort food in sandwich form. Even as an adult, you’re never too old for this simple yet comforting snack. If you’re a fellow cheese lover like myself, then Melt It! is your place to indulge in all the crazy, cheesy and deep fried concoctions you can ever dream of. The portions here are large and generous, so come hungry and get ready for carb overload.
The sandwiches are around $ 4 – 7 but for an extra $ 3.50, you can upgrade to a combo of a fountain drink and your choice of housemade chips, fries or soup. While I was tempted to try one of their more adventurous grilled cheeses, I chose The Legend which is your simple grade-​school mild cheddar on sourdough with a cup of tomato basil soup. Can’t go wrong with that, right? The bread was crisp, buttery and golden-​brown while the cheese was perfectly melted with a nice stretch. Dipping it into the bowl of warm tomato basil soup took me back to my younger days with each bite.
Besides grilled cheese sandwiches, Melt It! is also a mini deep fried paradise in itself. It’s the OC Fair all year long here and you can gorge on deep fried fare like deep fried oreos, deep fried snickers and their infamous, must-​have deep fried PB&J. It may not be diet-​friendly but it’s oh-​so-​good. Luckily, the size of this is perfect for sharing, lest you feel too guilty over this calorie-​laden treat.

Don’t get me wrong. The food here is great.
But there’s so much more than that that makes a restaurant good.
I work a block away from here and often come on my lunch break. I’d always suggest ordering ahead because I usually spend my entire break waiting for my sandwich to be cooked.
Also, they have two soups on their menu, a tomato soup and a «soup of the day» I’ve been here now at least 10 times and all they ever seem to have is the tomato, so don’t bother asking for anything else.
Today I went for tomato soup and felt like I stepped into a nightclub. How is anyone supposed to enjoy their short lunch break with crazy loud house music blaring over the speakers?!
Pretty annoyed.
Staff is sweet and food is good.
My suggestion would be order ahead and take your food somewhere else to enjoy.

Came here for lunch one day to try it out. Walked up and looked at the menu. I asked the cashier what he thought about the cheesiest Mac and cheese and he said it was his favorite so I gave it a shot. It’s Mac n cheese with pulled pork on sourdough bread. I thought this thing was going to be amazing and it was not that great. It was a little disappointing. After tasting it I thought to my self I should have tried something else. The mac n cheese with that sweet pulled pork just didn’t do it for me but I tried it. Give it a try maybe you will enjoy it.

Very good… and very heavy! Tried this place out a few months ago, I love grilled cheese but mainly came here for the novelty factor. Portion is pretty big, so one sandwich was two meals for me. The Melt It fries reminded me of animal style fries.

The Cheesiest Mac N Cheese (with added pulled pork): this sandwich is so good! Especially if you love Mac n cheese its good! It’s even better when you add pulled pork too! It’s worth the extra few bucks for more flavor!
Philly Grilled Cheese Steak Sandwich: for those of you who love Philly cheesesteaks, you guys won’t regret ordering this one :) it’s perfectly delicious with lots of cheese!
Sweet Carolina: this sandwich kind of reminds me of the philly grilled cheese steak but I love the purple pickled stuff with the pulled pork. Kinda reminds of me an Asian fusion version with some tang to it :)
Deep Fried PB&J: this is a MUST ORDER!!! It is so delicious! So bomb!!! Probably the most popular and loved item on the menu! Who can not love PB&J?! And those who already do, it’s sooooooo good!
Beer Battered Fries: these were just okay. Can’t tell that they’re BEER battered and honestly, so oily and fried I could smell the heavy unhealthiness. I couldn’t stomach much of them. They’re good with the secret sauce though. But ugh. Personally too heavy for me :(
Pros:
–first of all, bomb service! Super nice, outgoing and friendly people!
–delicious delicious delicious! What else can I say? Especially for those Mac n cheese lovers!

Cons:
–there are none? Except maybe the fact that it’s like giving yourself a delicious heart attack from the unhealthiness!

As a cheese lover, I had such high expectations for this restaurant. After finally trying this place, I don’t think that I will go out of my way for anything on their menu again. This place is not for lactose intolerance, lighthearted eaters.
The Turkey Melt: this somewhat spicy, cheesy, turkey sandwich was quite tasty, at first. This melt sounded like one of the «lighter» sandwich options on the menu but it was actually very heavy, greasy, and filling.
The Cheesiest Mac n’ Cheese: adding pulled pork to Mac n’ Cheese on sourdough bread may look/​sound like a good combination but it’s not something that I would want to reorder. I can guarantee that you will get sick of the bland Mac n’ Cheese/​overly sweet pulled pork before you are halfway through the sandwich.
French Fries: hand-​cut and twice-​fried; tastes exactly like In-​N-​Out fries but thicker. I may be bias because I do not like In-​N-​Out fries.
The tables and chairs were clean, and the employees were welcoming and efficient. As there were no other customers dining in at the time, the food came out quickly and steaming hot.
I am glad that I finally got to try Melt It! but I will not be back any time soon. Overall, the taste and quality of the sandwiches were not worth the money. I will stick to eating bowls of Mac n’ Cheese and sandwiches separately.

When I think of grilled cheese, I sort of expect a light meal, but the sandwiches here are nowhere near light.
This is all based off what the food is like when ordering to-​go. I ordered the Tabasco Melt, which had avocado, bacon, cheese and tabasco sauce. For the most part, it’s really enjoyable. There is only a hint of tabasco so it’s not too overwhelming with spiciness and a good amount of avocado, which is fortunate because they charge $ 1 if you want to add it on to any of their other sandwiches. However, it’s extremely greasy. I only got through one half of the sandwich because of how heavy it was. I also got the Melt Fries which looked nothing like they did in the photos. There was pretty much no thousand island on it and the cheese was tough and made the fries stick together. It was so-​so; flavor was a little bland.
I spent a good $ 12 on two things and even though most of it was decent in taste, it’s not really worth that much.

The sandwiches here are hit or miss. The first time I really liked the Mojo and the Mac n cheese. The second time I tried a plain grilled cheese and it was overcooked and slightly burnt. The strawberry salad with arugula and goat cheese was too sweet.
What I did like both times was the portabello fries. It’s a nice wedge size and golden crispy. I’m not a huge fan of the dipping sauce but it needs something so I dip anyway.
Service is always super friendly and they are really accommodating.

Melt it! A Grilled Cheese Company!!! Shut up and take my money!
The team at Melt It! has brought the grilled cheese game to the next level with sandwiches like; the Legend, which is a twist on the classic, or the Turkey Melt with roast turkey, pepper jack, tomato with Cilantro Jalepeño Aioli, but the real winner is the Lobster Mac N Cheese! It’s all killer, no filler with so much sweet Lobster chunks held together with their delicious Mac n Cheese.
I found heaven on Earth and it’s called Melt It!

Had a hard time avoiding this place, since I knew that the food would be sinfully good and ruin my day’s work at the gym. I actually decided to go to their neighbor (Teriyaki Madness) but got allured by their pictures of the Friend PBJ sandwich.
After picking up a LOT of food for just myself (Portabella fries, Mac and Cheese w/​Pulled pork, and Fried PBJ sandwich), I knew I would regret it. Overall all the dishes were good (4 stars), but the excessive oils and fat in the 3 dishes I got, was just too much in the end.
I may come back for just their Fried PBJ sandwich (my favorite of the three, and more unique).

I bought a $ 8 groupon online for a $ 18 value and decided to try out Melt It! since I love grilled cheese sandwiches.
For $ 18, I was able to order their pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich, the homemade potato chips, tomato soup, and an assortment of soft drinks. I loved the potato chips, they were delicious and addicting. The tomato soup tasted fresh, not full of those preservatives you usually find in pre-​made soups.
Don’t make the mistake I made and take the grilled cheese sandwich home to eat. The 20 minute drive home will decrease the quality of the sandwich and ruin the texture of it. I did enjoy the flavor of the sandwich though!
Service was very friendly and the restaurant was clean!

I was forced. FORCED, I say, to buy a coupon off of Groupon for this place. $ 10 for $ 18 worth of food seemed like a good deal, I must admit.
Walking in, I could smell oil in the air. The place looked clean and modern although really empty for a Thursday night. I expected it to be really busy.
Knowing full well I’ll never go back, I decided to go all out. My dining partner could only nod his head as a go signal when I pointed out everything I wanted to try.
Philly «grilled cheese» steak sandwich (4 stars)
Not a fan of too much cheese, I liked how I could actually taste the steak in there.
Cheesy Mac and Cheese Sandwich with Pulled pork (2 stars)
All I could taste was the oil/​grease in the bread. I tried another bite an hour later (of course I took it home so I could give it another chance) and this time I tasted the pulled pork. A bit on the sweet side.
Deep fried PB&J (3 stars)
Tasted great on the first 2 – 3 bites but I felt my cholesterol levels increase with each one after. Tasted like donuts with lots of peanut butter and jelly inside. I might have enjoyed it more if I had it with coffee.
Portobello fries (2 stars)
I like fries that I can enjoy without having to use any dip. I liked the dip more than the fries. It was just deep fried mushrooms covered with flavorless batter.
Not my choice of food if I want a cheat day. Great and friendly servers, tho.
