I am responding to Mark’s response to my review. He did in fact represent me when he had his offices in Burbank in the Disney Channel Building 3800 Alameda Ste 1150. He did in fact do exactly what I said. Without my knowledge and without any prior discussion as to what he planned to do, as soon as the proceedings started he asked the judge to go into conference leaving me in the courtroom not knowing what was going on. He went behind closed doors with my son’s mother’s attorney and the judge and made a deal that I had no idea that he was making. I was waiting in the courtroom wondering what was going on. They came back into the courtroom and the deal was made. The proceedings ended quickly and we went out into the hallway and discussed who gets my son on birthdays and who pays for the birthdays. The amount agreed to that I was to pay in child support was $ 1,100.00 monthly exactly. This is highly unusual to get an exact rounded figure if you use the standard Disso Master formula. I should have been in the $ 800.00 range but it became very clear very quick that the Disso Master formula was not used being that a rounded figure of $ 1,100. was reached and the figure did not make sense as far as income and visitation. Mark should have, on my behalf being my attorney, demanded the use of the Disso Master formula but it was very clear that he did not and agreed to a rounded number that was hundreds higher than it should have been without my knowledge or consent. You hire an attorney to lead you through the legal process and work in your best interest. I don’t feel that I got the results I should have and it comes down to simple math and getting the monthly support amount correct based on income and expenses from both parties, and visitation time. The numbers didn’t add up and I got stuck with paying more than what I should have for many many years. He also suggested that I go for full custody which would have been a long legal process and would have certainly have helped with the home in Pasadena that he said he was working on at the time. It made no sense for me to go for full custody. After the proceeding, feeling like he won, Mark invited me to lunch at a coffee shop near the Burbank courthouse. The entire time I was eating I was wondering what the hell just happened and Mark was acting like we won. Mark was generous enough to pick up the tab which I laughed at because he was paying with my money. Again, I was left in the courtroom while the Judge, Mark and my son’s mother’s attorney went in chambers and cut a deal that I had no idea of the details until it was done. It was 2001 in the Burbank Court… I am not a competitor I am a sucker that picked the wrong attorney. One very important thing here is that my motivation for going to court was to establish the correct amount to pay and to establish the visitation schedule. My son’s mother wasn’t consistent with visitation and was not consistent in what she considered fair child support. I not once wanted pay less than I should based on the correct criteria. I just wanted everything established correctly so that there was a format to go by to which we can refer to when paying monthly support and visitation. My son now lives with me. Good luck with your case folks and Mark look further in your records you will find the case.
