A note of caution to anyone else who is thinking of leaving a bad review, because this might happen to you too: Marci, the owner, confronted me today in public while I was at the farmers market (which happens to be right across the street from Lula Mae) and threatened me in front of my friends about my bad review here. «I would watch it if I were you. You are a scary person. Stay away from my store.» I was stunned at how creepy and unprofessional this was. As a business owner, she had ample opportunity to prevent a bad review from happening in the first place (see original review), but confronting and threatening people about it after the fact is just plain scary.

Whaaaaa… Did I really just buy this cute ornament to gift and they wrapped it in tissue paper and placed it in a cute Lula Mae pouch?! I was so looking forward to a janky plastic or paper bag. Haha. All the ladies at the store are super nice. They definitely are a positive pick me up since they put off awesome good vibes.
The price range of items are perfect! Ranging from «Oh I could totally buy this» and «Oh, I so have lots of money to spend». I’m no baller and I was able to buy something. Hehe.
They carry a huge selection of goods made by us regular folks and the largest selection of greetings cards not made by Hallmark, American Greetings, etc. You get the idea. There are just so many good things here! Crystals, pillows, soap, perfume, jewelry, notebooks, and the list goes on.
You must go here!

This is my go-​to gift shop. I’d prefer to give it my business vs larger, corporate businesses. The owner fills the store with reasonably-​priced, adorable, high-​quality items and stock changes regularly so there’s always something new. Sometimes there’s an animal friend behind the counter, which is always a plus.

From notebooks to vintage dresses, quirky magnets, and unique knick knacks… Lula Mae carries some of the most eccentric and wonderful gifts in all of Old Town. They also have the BEST selection of cards for any occasion (most of which are done by local artists).
If you follow them on Instagram, you get an in-​store discount and you get to see all of the new and adorable items they’re carrying. The owner Marci is super sweet and always puts a sweet treat or jelly bean in your bag!

The best gift and card store in Pasadena and LA… always come out with a bag full of wonderful one of a kind items… now that I have moved to east coast still buy on line. Marci is the best

I walked into Lula Mae hoping to find the perfect card for my lover. Hands down the best greeting card store I’ve ever walked in to. I couldn’t stop giggling at all these great cards. Perfect little boutique to put a smile on anyone’s face.

Monsieur Know-​It-​All created this poem yesterday. As he wrote it on an elegantly decorated greeting card, he made himself cry because it was so romantic.
Boys, Monsieur would like to share with you the proper steps of writing a «love card». Yes, a tangible card that captures your intense feelings so that when she opens it, those feelings will erupt all over the place. Needless to say, she deserves better than a pre-​messaged Hallmark card from a pharmacy chain store that also sells hemorrhoid cream.
STEP 1: Take the time to compose a message that expresses your burning love. Even if it requires sitting at Boba World for an hour with a blank stare… write it yourself. Don’t worry if it sounds corny, has misspellings, or doesn’t rhyme… write it yourself. It’ll mean so much more to her.
STEP 2: Ink your message on a special card. Where does one find a «special» card? Monsieur will tell you his secret: it’s a quaint little shop called Lula Mae. Never heard of Lula Mae… that’s the point. Lula Mae is esoteric. The cards they carry are mostly artsy and feel one-​of-​a-​kind. They also have a collection of cute trinkets to go with your «carte de l’amour».
The thing is, you want to show her that you devoted an extraordinary amount of effort and thought into creating her «love card». You can even notch it up by spraying your cologne on it… or better yet, enclosing a trinket with her initials. Prior to delivering said card, be sure she’s met you before in person or you’ll come across like a stalker.

This shop is a gem! It’s always my go-​to shop for greeting cards and when I need a really fun gift. Plus, the owner, Marci is one of the coolest chicks you could ever meet. She is amazing at supporting local artists and Etsy makers. You should feel really good about shopping at Lula Mae because you’re indirectly supporting LOTS of small businesses! Aaaaand they give you a piece of candy when you buy something. yay! ;)

Wit and Whimsy for sure! NO Hallmark boring card at Lula Mae! You will find the most unique cards here for any occasion. The USPS should send Marci a fruit basket to say thank you for the increase in snail mail. I can always find a unique gift or card for any occasion.

I’m one of those really simple girls, and stationary makes me happy. I just walked out of this store and I immediately thought– I NEED TO Unilocal THIS PLACE RIGHT FREAKING NOW!
Lula Mae is my new obsession. I walked in thinking to myself, «let me kill some time» and walked out an hour later with a cute blue druzy necklace and a handmade birthday card. Cutest knick-​knacks, cutest greeting cards, cutest simple/​minimalist jewelry, sea salts, organizers, literally the most random, feminine, adorable, dainty stuff you could possibly imagine!
The young lady working kept checking up on me and asking if I needed any help. She was really sweet and seemed happy to be there. They have been open for 12 years now. Where have I been??? Well, I know where I will be from now on… shopping at Lula Mae for all my stationary needs!

So seriously… Marci the proprietor of Lula Mae NEVER CEASES to amaze!!! Not only does she support businesses that keep things «made in America» she shops vendors who are local and shops small!
She is a dynamo and inspiration not only as a business woman, animal lover, friend and entrepreneur… BUT she can do anything!!! She always gives the best customer service and her staff is fabulous too!
Lula Mae has their own brand of cards Alabama Brown. They are so sweet and creative. Funny and tell it like it is!
In addition to the amazing gifts of whit and whimsy, she holds LULA SCHOOL on certain nights after hours. She is an amazing teacher! Truly gifted in so many ways!!! Tonight I was lucky enough to take her cross stitch class! She rocked our stitching socks off with super cute patterns and treated us to yummy cream puffs and some bubbly! She even sent us home with some goods in super sweet burlap bag so we could continue stitching. Classes are priced right! The experience is priced right and I HIGHLY recommend taking a class!!!

If Etsy had a brick and mortar location that only sold their best stuff, it would be similar to Lula Mae. Probably not as good. This place sells amazing fun, ranging from cards to clothing for chicks. Sometimes they have so many good cards, it’s tough to choose only one. And a lot of what they sell is made in LA/​SoCal, so you’re supporting local artists and craftspeople.
If you’re lucky enough to go in when the owner is there, she usually gives you some candy with a purchase. Not so sure about the employees, I think they gobble the sweets up when no one is looking. :)
Seriously, check this place out. You’ll never search online again for awesome gifts and cards.

I can’t give a store a good rating just because they’re a small shop or family-​owned. I was around the corner at The Container Store and wanted to check out Lula Mae. Based on Unilocal reviews and photos, it looked like they had a great selection of stationary, which I was looking forward to.
Upon arrival, the shop is really crammed and smells of old wood (so much that my mom immediately remarked that it smelled «bad»). It’s distracting, but I could look over that fact considering how old the building is. But the selection was disappointing for all of us. Yes, there’s a wall of various cards, but they all felt kinda «one note» — very similar to each other and similarly styled/​drawn. (i.e. All printed on white background of the same size.)
When you walk in, immediately to the left of the door, there’s also a small section with vulgar cards. I thought they’d be more amusing and fun than they actually were after going through all of them. Again, kinda felt flat to me, and there weren’t any that were witty enough that I’d purchase for a friend.

I randomly found this place while walking to the chocolate store (Mignon Chocolate) next door.

The store is a bit cozy with a bunch of neato items everywhere. There’s a bunch of small trinkets that you can get here. Candles, cups, books, and AMAZING CARDS!
Lula Mae just recently celebrated their TWELVE years in the business and once you come in here, you’d love ‘em too!
You can find a card for every occasion — Sorry I effed up, Birthdays, I miss you, blank cards, etc.
Most of the cards were simple yet very tasteful cards. Some of the cards were inappropriate but hilarious. I mean, nothing says happy birthday to your BFF than a «Happy Birthday, @$$*&» or «This is your awesome birthday card.»
The cards can be quite pricey, but it’s not a lot more than a typical hallmark card.
The cherry on top of Lula Mae is that the owner is EXTREMELY nice and outgoing. She was very excited that this was their anniversary and you can sense passion and authenticity that she had. She also told me about a discount which knocked off a couple of dollars, which made me happy.
I would definitely come here again!

I love, love, LOVE every single corner of the store. The owner, Marci, has a passionate love affair with Lula and it shows. Her employees do, too. Every time I come in, there’s a new display, new cards, new jewelry, new people laughing hysterically at some new item Marci just HAD TO CARRY and is FLYING OFF THE SHELVES (because that’s what happens around there), new therapy sessions. Get it?
A lot of the stuff at the store is made locally and how could you not support that? They carry the absolute cutest cards and fabulous gifts for any occasions. I’ve received at least a million compliments on my switchblade knife necklace, just one of the gorgeous pieces she carries from bunniesinLA.
I have friends in other states that request specific cards from Lula’s instagram and get monthly card boxes. Her cards are everything. I’ll stop in here on any given day and know I’ll leave with something perfect. In case it’s misunderstood above, you need some Lula in your life. stat.

I happen to be in Pasadena for my best friends bridal shower. When I got to the bridal shower I realized I had forgotten her card at home. I Unilocaled a nearby greeting card store and found Lula Mae. This store is so cute! They carry a lot of arts and crafts items. But I was looking for a bridal shower greeting card, not items to make an Easter basket. The person working at the time immediately greeted me with a warm smile and I asked her to guide me to the bridal shower cards. She directed me to a corner of the store and then all the way to the bottom row, there I found a total of 2 bridal shower card options. A greeting card place with 2 bridal shower cards? Womp. Womp. If you are looking for birthday cards there is an entire wall for them.
The service was great. This is a good place to come in for arts and crafts or for your birthday cards. If you are looking for wedding, congratulations, or baby shower greeting cards and want to have many options, this is probably not the place to visit.

Heading back to my care, after checking out the Pasadena Farmers Market one Sunday morning, this quaint little knickknack shop on the southeast corner of Fair Oaks and Union, caught my eye. Upon entering, I was greeted by a voice from somewhere in the store. It’s a very small shop and there is so much merchandise one can’t see from one end to the next.
As I start my self-​guided tour, I see so many items that remind me days gone by, toys that were handed down from sister to sister to sister to me… things from the 50’s and 60’s, when toys and knickknacks were made of good quality. Their merchandise is a cross between Urban Outfitters, less the clothing, and Hallmark. With items such as Bacon Soap, Irish Accent mouth spray, items with sexual innuendo under tones, like a cock blocker wine bottle corker, to name a few. Cards, they have cards galore, for every occasion or no occasion at all, as well as scented candles, cloth shoulder bags, unique purses for women, and comical note pads.
As I made my way through the store, I noticed a sales associate at the register using a calculator, perhaps working on the month end sales or something. I didn’t pay her much mind as she didn’t pay me much mind. I was a bit annoyed, as I’m sure if I had a question or wanted to make a purchase I would have annoyed her.
If you’re looking for hard to find items, might want to check out Lula Mae, you might be surprised at what you can find.
I’d like to give this store a 3 ½, ½ off for the lack of attention from the sales associate and another ½ for the tight fit. With so much merchandise in the store it made it slightly difficult to move about.
