Fight Academy Pasadena

For a good, hard workout, come here. Savant’s kickboxing class is full of people who actually fight, and it’s because he actually trains. I’ve tried half a dozen kickboxing/​boxing/​fitness martial arts places in the area, but you can’t beat this for the real deal. Well run, nice people to boot.

I’ve taken Debbie’s Afternoon Kickboxing class twice, and I love that she keeps the momentum going for the full hour. Punching, kicking, push-​ups, and squats all over our section of the gym. It feels more cardio than boxing, but as a lady, I appreciate burning the calories vs. creating defined muscles (I get that from other workouts). Not a ton of instruction, so if you’re looking to hone in on your boxing skills, this is prob not the class for you.
Debbie has good energy and is welcoming, but it’s hard to hear her. She’s got a fierce kick, but an inside voice. If it’s your first class, try to get a bag in the middle, near hers.

If I could give more stars I would. Fight Academy is the place to go to to get in shape and learn martial arts, and self defense at the same time. I know you expect a gym named FIGHT ACADEMY, to have brutes and meatheads, but that is not the case. Their is a team atmosphere, and it is family friendly with possibly the best children’s program in the SGV. I recommend you to come on down and talk to Savant Young, the head coach and owner.

Hands down (or up in this sport), best Mma facility in the SGV. Savant, the owner, truly cares about the progression of every person who shows up to classes.
Over my 14+ years of martial arts training, I’ve never found a more complete Mma school. The building is clean with plenty of mat space, the weight area is neat and functional, plus there are 3 restrooms! The coaching staff are all top-​notch: you have professional fighters that, if met elsewhere, you’d think were just friendly sweethearts, but on the mats they have skillsets that are tried and true. Plus, the community who frequent fight academy are of all age groups: kids classes are rapidly growing, often with multiple instructors per class. Adults have a variety of class types to choose from: kickboxing, cardio kickboxing, gi and nogi jiujitsu, strength and conditioning, and wrestling.
I don’t see myself ever quitting training here since everyday I’m seeing guys on the mats twice my age an still rolling (even competing)!! My favorite part is watching the fight team prepare for fights and eventually going to actually watch them compete LIVE, wearing my favorite «Fight academy» short of course.

Full disclosure: The owners of this establishment are good friends of mine. If I wasn’t satisfied with their establishment I would simply cancel membership and not leave a review at all. Truth be told, this gym is a wonderful place for my kids to learn self defense and fitness in the form of world class Mixed Martial Arts training. The vibe here is one of family, it’s not just a gym. The people who work there as well as those who work out and train there are always positively interacting, even right after having a roll on the mat. My children are learning life skills, discipline, self-​respect, respect for others, and esprit de corps. The team of talented instructors Savant Young has put together are skilled not only as fighters and trainers, but as mentors, teachers and coaches. Great family owned gym with a very friendly group of people to train with. Savant is extremely skilled with proven success in MMA himself. At this gym you will find people with all levels of skill and everyone is eager to help each other learn and grow. Go in for a single day training and you will find everyone is very welcoming and there is no gymtimidation. You will learn, sweat and have fun. This is the place to be!

Awesome academy to train at! The instructors here are very friendly and encouraging. Full of tough, but friendly students. Great place to learn MMA. Very supportive, family environment. Coach Savant, Gabe, Heinrich, and Nick are amazing with the kids.

Took an intro class because a friend wanted to try it out, only for the friend to bail out after I showed up. The people here were very friendly and gave good instruction. I will probably return. Thanks flakey friend, I found a new gym.

Coaches at Fight Academy are top notch. Our family started working out here about a month ago. We like the kickboxing classes the best. My wife and I take Savant’s 6:30pm kickboxing class. We are constantly being challenged and enjoy every minute of it. It’s not just a gym for fighter meat heads. Regular people just trying to get a good workout just like us too. I think the lack of reviews for this school/​gym is because we are to tired after the workouts to type :) Anyone who checks it out doesn’t leave they stay and train. I am coming up and a year from when my gym closed and felt like the workout part of my life was never going to be the same… well that was an understatement. I joined Fight Academy almost a year ago and I cannot thank my gym enough for closing. I am not a person who likes the same boring workout every week. I love that never know 100% what we will be doing in class but I do know I am going to get a work out, learn something new and always feel challenged. Never have I seen such a level of professional approach to training the average individual just wanting to get a good workout learn a skill and have fun. When you are new everyone helps you learn technique and is so patient. Whatever class, whatever your level (I was a beginner) whoever the instructor they all take time to help you so you learn correctly. It’s not a franchise, it’s a family. One of the coolest part of this place is watching the kids. Kids come in a bit shy and in a couple of weeks you see such a change, they are standing tall and feeling confident. If you want a work out that isn’t boring always a challenge, and fun this is the place to go. If you have a kid and are looking for a good place to take them for better health and to learn how to protect themselves and build self esteem, please do check it out.

As good as it gets. All the instructors are as easy going as they are passionate about their craft. After the first session they are greeting you by name when you walk in. I’ve been taking the MMA & kickboxing classes, and BOTH are incredible workouts, safe, and fun.
One day during a workout, one of the original teachers of Savant & Martin walked in. They paused all of the classes to introduce him and give thanks and credit to him in front of everyone. Its great when the people you are learning from don’t have big egos and set a good example to all the kids in the room.
Id give this place 10 stars if I could.

My son takes the kids classes here, we love it. Savant and Martin are top of the line trainers! Not only do they teach the kids MMA fighting, sparring, striking, take downs but they are just a great group of friendly people running this place that feels like one big family! The owners and their wives genuinely want to help you! The mens and women’s classes are just as awesome!

I was introduced to Fight Academy by my friend/​co-​worker. His wife asked me to join the FIghTness Bootcamp when it was 1^st rolled out and I did. I had been no stranger to weight training, but I had no prior experience with MMA, Ju Jitsu or Muay Thai.
The coaches I trained with were attentive, offered guidance and were very supportive. The women’s Bootcamp got me hooked and I joined the gym and started taking advantage of the wide range of classes offered. I feel very strong and empowered in the FA atmosphere.
When you’re new to training like this, it’s good to practice with people who are more skilled than you and everyone is very encouraging and supportive.
There is a true team atmosphere and all wins, accomplishments and team members are celebrated.

Brought my daughter her because she was being bullied at school and needed a self esteem boost!!! She trains with Coach Savant and Coach Martin AWSOME guys!!! In one month of my girl being here she walks much taller and holds her head up higher!!! Thanks guys!!! Love Fight Academy!!!

I can’t believe this place only has two reviews.
I recently came here because I had one of those one month Groupons.
I’ve always wanted to take up some form of martial art and these Groupons make it easy to sample different places without a big $$$ commitment.
I will start by saying that everyone I meet at this place was great. Registration was easy and I was off and training the next day. Registration is the only thing that is easy here and I mean that in a good way.
The classes are challenging and the trainers do their best to push you within your level of fitness. There are usually multiple classes going on at once, so you should be able to find something you enjoy. If you are thinking about getting in shape or would like to learn some form of self defense I would recommend this place.

Come train with Professionl Fighters, TUF’s Jamie Yager, Savant Young, Herb Dean, and David Dunn all teach at the Fight Academy. You’re not going to get any better instruction than this!

I’ve been going to Fight Academy since the age of 20 and it was one of the best decisions i’ve made. Coming in with no experience at all, coach Savant Young and Joseph Del Real have taught me a lot and i feel truly honored to have them as coaches. Aside from great coaches all the members and other staff are great people all around, its really more like one big family. Everybody really works together and we help each other in the best way we can.
Training with coach Savant has been a real good experience. He is a great teacher of the game who works hard to train his students and make great fighters like him. What i really enjoy about being coached by Savant is that he is able to teach every aspect of MMA but more important he’s able to help us put it all together in a great way. Savant is a very wise person who uses that intelligence to progress in his own career and also teach his students.
Coach Joseph is our striking coach and has a great way of teaching that is very effective and i find very fun and helpful. Joseph is very knowledgable of the Muay Thai art and boxing, along with some Tae Kwon Do and he is able to put it all together perfectly creating his own style. He is able to help each of our individual styles adapt to his fighting style which i believe is very important. I really feel lucky to have him as a coach and am very thankful for all the teachings.

I myself don’t train here, but have gone more than once to do some sparring when I was invited. I do know a few people that train there (having once lived in Pasadena for ten years lol) and have gotten to know a few of the staff and an owner. Yes it is an mma gym, which means it’s not the same as a traditional martial arts school… BUT the instructors are all old enough to have come from traditional backgrounds and not only respect those styles, they have improved on them. There isn’t a better school to teach the various aspects of mixed martial arts, including the mentality it takes to compete and even train, anywhere near Pasadena then Fight Academy. On more than one occasion I have wished that they’d been there during the time I lived there.

My wife and I started training at Fight Academy about 8 months ago. I hadn’t exercised in 10 years and was at my highest weight ever at around 210. By training with Savant and Joe just a few days a week and mixing up my diet I was able to get down to 170 – 175 in just a few months.
Fight Academy is not just an MMA gym it’s a lifestyle. Imagine going to Ballys and getting a professional trainer any time you wanted to workout. That’s exactly what you get at this gym. Egos are checked at the door and everyone at this gym supports each other. A lot of camps will claim they offer a family environment but nothing compares to the friendships formed here.
Work hard, play hard. Sound good? Come train for a few days and you’ll see why this place is 5 stars all day.

I LOVE FIGHT ACADEMY!
My boyfriend and I were trying out CrossFit Pasadena when I discovered Fight Academy practically next door to them. My bf ended up doing CrossFit (he loves it) but it wasn’t for me so I migrated next door.
I’d been looking for a nice gym/​mma/​muay thai place for the longest time and I’m so glad that I found them. I started out by doing the week trial and all of the instructors were super nice, even personally coming to me to show me how to do something. I tried the Saturday jiu jitsu class, MMA with Savant, and women’s kickboxing before committing myself to a one year contract. When I started, I went in twice a week for the women’s kickboxing class with Dustin, and I loved it so much I’m going in 4 times a week now (also classes with Jay). The instructors WORK you and I’m soaked with sweat every time I leave, but a great workout feels awesome (and sore) afterwards. They mix it up and workouts are different from class to class — sometimes its about technique, sometimes, as many reps as you can, other times, cardio, sparing, bags, partner drills, etc. Keeps me on my toes.
The people at fight academy are also really cool (and welcoming). I’ve met some pretty friendly and awesome people who motivate me to push myself harder. I’m fortunate that I live in pasadena and it’s a relatively short drive for me, but I know people who live in El Monte, Monterey Park and Downtown and drive out just for FA after a long day at work. I was signed up at Gold’s Gym about a year ago and sort of slacked off after the first couple months, but the people you meet at FA and the relationships you build keep you coming. There are quite a number of ladies who come in for not only the women’s class but also the MMA and Muay Thai classes so if you’re female and worried about getting a creepy vibe like at some gyms there’s no need to worry. This place is also very kid friendly and judging from the kid’s classes before the women’s class, they get worked out too! It’s actually really inspiring seeing the kids practice take downs and spar with each other.
The facilities are amazing (ample space, clean, nice spray painted and bright colored walls, equipment in great shape). The attitude is humble yet strong and confident. The events (ie. Proving Grounds) are a must attend.
I’ve gotten in MUCH better shape — I feel stronger, have more stamina (hiked the grand canyon for 2 days and I wasn’t sore!!), and overall a lot healthier. I have fight academy to thank for all that. I’m proud to wear the FA logo on my shirt/​shorts. Thank you Fight Academy for having amazing instructors in a great space and for all of the hard workouts, I’ll be there tomorrow.
