David Wyndhamsmith, DDS

I’m currently not knowing what to think but this dentist should really take a tally of reviews as the other dentists that work here are negatively impacting his practice. Dr. Wyndhamsmith I find to be a very competent dentist. There are two other dentists at this location though, brothers, Drs. Joseph and Michael Kim.
I had a previously worked on tooth (root canal and crown) from almost two years ago by another dentist somewhere else loose its crown. This office was on the list and a few blocks walking distance so I figured why not. I saw Dr. Wyndhamsmith, he had his assistant take two x-​rays, looked over the tooth and stated that whomever did the tooth did not do it correctly.
The Dr. checked my other fillings, spotted one lone cavity that he said I should have looked at some time and he even educated me on the bad job I received on my tooth by showing me one of my other teeth which had a proper root canal versus the tooth in need of repair which did not. The root was still there. So he had me make an appointment with Dr. Kim, the younger brother Michael Kim. See, thats’ building a relationship with your patient.
I showed up for the appointment for Dr Kim who had no immediate personality that I could pick up. He had his assistant Mark take two more x-​rays, from the same positions as what Dr. Wyndhamsmith previously took a few days before.
Dr Kim put that jaw opener thing in to keep my mouth open and my jaw started to cramp. I told him I didn’t need that and that I’ve never needed that for ever having a root canal, doing just fine with opening my mouth. He then firmly said «I can’t do the root canal then». I gave him a focused glare and obliged him regardless of not liking his tone. I was in the seat about 15 minutes to 20 minutes in total between the two shots and him cleaning the tooth out again and adding a temporary filling. He said something to his assistant and that was that — poof he was gone. He was off to the next room to work on someone else. I really felt like I was on an assembly line.
I made the followup appointment with Dr. Wyndhamsmith for the new crown and will follow through since they already have at least half of my money. Apparently Dr. Wyndhamsmith, although good as he may be, I am so far under the assumption that he is actually a standard dentist and that’s why he uses other dentists for the work such as root canals and such. Fine, whatever, but I feel that after this experience I wont be a returning customer.
I have family that works for the American Dental Association, I think I’m going to ping them about finding a higher ranking dental office. My last dentist, who has since unfortunately retired, pretty much did everything himself. That is something I more prefer.
i have started journaling my experience just in case I might need to complain to my insurance company as well as the ADA, Consumer Affairs or seek legal guidance. Having previous police experience I write in great detail.
Any doctor should realize though, its us the customer that gives them their business. Without us as customers there is no business. We live in the day and age of so many media outlets to report on companies so, breed a bad practice and it will breed nothing but negative reviews. Dr. Wyndhamsmith himself gets 5 stars for how I was treated, but past that I have trouble past giving 2 stars.

I came in for a cleaning and check up. After x-​rays the Dr came in for a quick exam. He didn’t make eye contact with me and either he was rolling his eyes as he spoke, or nodding off. i couldn’t tell for sure. He explained that both my daughter and I needed 2 fillings each. The receptionist explained that each filling would cost me $ 110. I have dental insurance, and he said this was the discounted rate with my insurance.
I called my insurance provider the next day and asked for a fee schedule and breakdown of my out of pocket expense. Fillings are no charge. I am disappointed that there are health practitioners in this world that aim to overcharge people for care.
Upon reading other reviews i realize this was not an isolated event.
Avoid this place, and if you decided to try this dental provider, i suggest that you request a fee schedule from your insurance provider and show up to your appointment with it in hand for reference.

Most unethical dental office with misrepresentation! It’s common knowledge that an endo consultation involves evaluation and examination, none of those services was rendered. The endodontist Kim, receptionist Martin and office staff Patrick Wyndhamsmith (must be related to the GP DDS) are condescending liars.
I made the appt for a consultation for an apicoectomy surgery after being informed that the endo has microscope for the apico surgery.
On 7÷8÷14, an assistant had me sit down and took a x-​ray first. I immediately noticed the x-​ray is not digital and asked if microscope is used for apicoectomy surgery and she said no. I told the assistant I was leaving and she insisted I should wait for Dr. Kim. After a long wait, Dr. Kim showed up with a thumb size x-​ray and had no knowledge on which tooth I was seeking evaluation for. I made the appt for #6 and filled out all the paperwork including failed retreat post a bad root canal for #6. Apparently, he didn’t even bother to review anything. Even though the retreated overfilled #6 was very clear on x-​ray but if he can’t read his thumb-​size x-​ray, it is very concerning to me.
Dr. Kim stated microscope may or may not be used in an apicoectomy surgery. He wanted to proceed with an examination on my tooth. I told him I could not let him to go through with an examination and bill insurance without the guarantee that microscopy will be used in the surgery. During the conversation, he was speaking to me in such a condescending way as if I were an uneducated patient. I am a seasoned Wharton MBA alumni with basic medical and dental knowledge from my research and family background.
During the brief conversation, I was standing the entire time. Then, I decided not to have my consultation done in the office and left with my caregiver. Upon arriving home, I called my insurance and reported the reasons I didn’t feel comfortable with this office, esp. with the equipment and therefore didn’t have the consultation done. Insurance company showed understanding and changed office code to a different endo where I had a thorough and objective examination and consultation.
I was surprised to receive a billing statement from Pasadena Dental Care, I spoke with Martin, the receptionist on 7÷14÷14 who stated the thumb size x-​ray was taken and I did speak with the endo Dr. Kim so the charges can’t be waived. He stated if I don’t pay the bill, it will go to a collection agency. Even though the office was aware that I never proceed to have the actual consultation and evaluation performed, they still want to rip patients off. This office has been dishonest, shady and unethical from the time my appt was booked.

I don’t really get this place. I made an appointment for a check up and cleaning. I hadn’t been to a dentist in two years and was surprised by how little time the doctor spent with me (he literally spent under 2 mins in my presence). A technician gave me an x-​ray and he was the only person to ask me any questions. When the film was ready the doctor swept in. Looked at my teeth for under 60 secs, glanced at the film and said everything was fine. As for the cleaning, it took me two months to get an appointment. They apparently only have a hygienist there on Fridays. Very strange. I don’t think I’ll return…

The worst dental office I’ve ever experienced. I was told my 6year old needed over $ 2,600 urgent work done and when I called to discuss an inexpensive, less invasive procedure I was told to follow up in 6 months… What happened to the «urgency» of the matter??? I guess $ in their pockets was the urgency. Then it was my turn, I was told deep root cleaning with irrigation and antibiotics would be $ 420 with insurance and when I called to question why my insurance was quoting $ 110 they got very rude and asked «well do you want to cancel your appt then?!» Like no shit Sherlock, hell yeah! Not only did I cancel the appt which they never call to confirm I cancelled them as my dental provider. Just a Big C for cancel when it comes to this dental office or should I say gold digger office of dentistry.

My sister and I have all been to Dr. Wyndhamsmith’s office. Both of our experiences have been poor. I would not recommend going to his office even for a routine cleaning.
My sister went to Dr. Wyndhamsmith for a cleaning. They only did a partial cleaning and cleaned a few of her bottom teeth. Here’s the zinger: they charged insurance for the full cleaning. When we called my sister’s insurance company, they said we would have to work it out with his office. When I went back to talk to the receptionist, he said he would talk to the hygienist and get back to us. He implied that it would be up to the hygienist. We never heard back. Since they charged for the full cleaning, my sister cannot get another cleaning for another 6 months.
When I went there, the hygienist was incompetent. She kept hitting me accidentally with the instruments. The dentist was getting a bit upset too.
Overall, not the best dentist I have been to.

It is because of businesses like this one that Unilocal should consider negative stars.
This is the worst dentist office my husband and I have ever encountered. We have been trying to get my husband’s wisdom teeth removed. Our insurance isn’t covering all of them because they say that have not received all of the necessary paperwork for the dentist. We have had the misfortune of having to interact with staff Martin for the past several weeks in an attempt to resolve this issue. We have gotten nowhere, however, because Martin literally yells at us every time we call to try and resolve the issue. Martin believes that we are upset that all of the teeth were not covered and doesn’t shut up long enough to hear what our question actually is. We are under no impression that the dental office is responsible for getting our insurance to cover services and if Martin would listen, he would be able to understand that. Instead, every time we call, Martin lectures us on he doesn’t have to do anything for us and «we need to understand that he doesn’t owe us anything.» Furthermore, Martin informed me that I don’t deserve customer services because «I’m not at a grocery store or a restaurant, and I’m just a patient.» JUST A PATIENT. That is a direct quote. Martin proceeded to then hang up the phone on me, without once giving me a chance to speak. When I told Martin we don’t have to do services here and go somewhere else, Martin, «Yes, you should do that.» I called back immediately, requesting a phone call from a dentist so I can address the incredibly rude way I was spoken to, yet we have not received any phone calls. It’s obviously of no concern to the dentist, which is fine because we have already taken our concerns to the Dental Board of Ca.
I think it is vital that all potential consumers know that this dental office has no concern for patient care or customer service. I was informed that they don’t do customer service because «we are just patients, who don’t deserve anything.» I don’t know about you, but that’s not how I like to be treated anywhere. They view patients as dispensable thus I would advise that you heed the advice in these Unilocal reviews and avoid this dental office at all costs. DO NOT GO HERE!!! They don’t give a shit about you or any of there patients. The fact that the would keep Martin on staff is most concerning.

I’ve only just started with my first cleaning and exam but I am very happy with my change to this dental practice.

I have had nothing but good experiences here with extensive work being done at intervals over the years. I think the Kim brothers are great, I can vouch for their painless root canals & competent care. Dr. Wyndamshmith is a pro & was extremely considerate when I had severe nerve pain. By the time I walked out of there, the pain was gone.
Today I had a cleaning done by Phyllis whom I can highly recommend. She was extremely gentle and best of all, it was quiet! No music (alas, not the case in the exam rooms).

Do yourself a favor and keep looking for a dentist. I have healthy teeth and just needed a place close to my home with routine 6 month check ups and that’s it but with this office they wouldn’t let me see the dentist when I would schedule a cleaning. They wanted me to make a separate appointment for a quick 5 minute visit with the dentist just so they can charge my insurance for a second visit. What a crock… the only plus sides to this place is its very nice looking and the parking isn’t too bad but they will do a half assed job on cleaning your teeth. I was in and out in 20 minutes… not what I wanted in a cleaning!

I’m not even sure where to begin. I had a gum infection in early December 2012 and went here b/​c they could get me in the same day. Technician bungled x-​rays, customer service is poor, dentist is disinterested, there is a general lack of communication that goes far beyond bedside manner, a request to «please hold on» because I was in so much pain during the procedure was met with «Oh it doesn’t hurt that much, does it?» I was scheduled for two 45 minute procedures over two weeks and the doctor did both in 31 minutes without telling me beforehand so I was charged double what I was expecting to pay that day, I unknowingly left the office with blood on my face, I was quoted $ 35 for mouth rinse and then charged $ 40…I’m still in disbelief over this entire experience. I’ve never had any problems at the Dentist before, let alone a nightmare like this.

I’ve been going here for a couple of years now and I have always received very good dental care/​service.
1. Dr. Kim is great. Yes, he’s very «focused» when attending patients (but I don’t come here for chatty conversation). He does his work efficiently and professionally. AND painlessly. That’s what I look for in a dentist.
2. They are very accommodating to my schedule. I never have a problem making an appointment at a convenient time/​as soon as I need it.
3. The dental assistant and dental techs are also courteous and professional.
4. Doctor Kim’s brother — an endodontist — who works across the street is great for root canals. No pain at all!
These folks provide great dental care!
(I don’t understand the other Unilocal reviews of this provider. I am a real client of Pasadena Dental Care and I think they are great.)

The reviews on here are all acurate. He is definitely the worst dentist I have ever been to — talks down to his staff for everyone to see/​hear, very rude attitude, and unnecessarily aggressive.
He told me I need to «toughen up» after he stabbed me in the gums and my eyes were watering. I am no stranger to dental work and I am not at all afraid of the dentist and needles and I can definitely say that my experience with this dentist was not okay.

This place is really bad with customer service. I set up an appointment for teeth cleaning which took me two months just for the next appointment. After my xray, they told me my teeth was fine and I need to set up and appointment for teeth cleaning now. That took another month and a half and the only thing available was Friday’s only. Dr Kim wasn’t really nice because since my teeth was fine he wants nothing to do with me. The front desk was not professional at all, and they were really rude.

These people robbed me.
I made an appointment and after arriving I had to literally sign all my legal rights away if I wanted to have my teeth looked at. I should have suspected something right then and there but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
My bridge had fallen out and I brought it with me to see if it could be put back in. The dentist gave me the usual exam with x-​rays and a consultation. They claim to accept all insurance. I was told I needed extensive work, most of which my insurance wouldn’t cover. They said in order to start work they would need a deposit of $ 300. For some reason my red flags were out to lunch that day. I handed over my credit card and they happily swiped and charged me.
After I went home I decided to google them. That’s where I saw the worst reviews of all. I decided I would never go back. I was so angry that I gave them that deposit. I called, canceled my appointment (I had 48 hours in which to cancel) and asked for my deposit back. I was told there would not be a problem. Here it is more than a year later. I never got my deposit back and the credit card company really didn’t help me with that either.
So I gave them $ 300 for nothing.
Here is my advice to you. Don’t go to any dentist without checking them out first! You may find negative reviews on just about every dentist out there because everyone has at least one bad experience but this place is the worst. Don’t ever go there.

The other reviewers are right on; there is something very shady going on here.
As a new patient (or if it’s been a year since you got your teeth cleaned at their office) they require you to make an «assessment» appointment before they will schedule your cleaning.
Dr. Wyndhamsmith is rude. When I told him I couldn’t afford to get precautionary filings he left the office saying «the health care system is only getting worse.» No goodbye, nice to meet you, nothing.
They use your cleaning as leverage by not allowing you to schedule an appointment until you get things fixed. He told my friend her year-​old crown was not close enough to her gum line & needed to be replaced & they wouldn’t clean her teeth until she did. He also discovered a cavity between two molars &, when she inquired about metal filings to save money, the salesman in the tie (who comes in after Dr. Wyndhamsmith abruptly leaves) said she would have to go to another location to get the metal filling but «most people don’t want to go through the hassle just to save a little money.»
What happened to the good old days when you go in, get your x-​rays, get your teeth cleaned, then the doctor comes in to discuss the x-​rays?
DO NOT TRUST THIS DENTIST.

Their customer service is the worst. At least pretend like you care about the patients. I’m not asking for foreplay, but damn.

Do not go here. I have been a patient for years, due to laziness and due to the fact that I have required little care beyond xrays and cleaning. However, it is true that it is a dental mill, with a very impersonal atmosphere. I had the worse experience ever with a dental hygenist. She actually showed me some bloody food particles. Talk about being scared straight! There’s no need to scare someone this way, as if dental visits are not bad enough. I do plan to write to them, not that they would care.
While I know that I should floss more often, I have never had such a bad experience before during prior cleanings. The dentist even complimented the health of my teeth prior to this cleaning!

Yes, this place is horrible. It has been years since I visited, but running across the previous post from Jennifer M., sent shivers up my spine and just reminded me of my consumer obligation. I chose this place from my insurance catalog based on the owners credentials (Dr. Wyndham Smith) I swear it said he was an MD and DDS, but maybe Kaiser’s insurance catalog was wrong. You would think the place rocked! Not! It is like a dental billing mill. You never see the same dentist twice. I come from a medical related background and Dr. Kim was really blah when I asked him a simple, intelligent question regarding my own mouth. A real wet blanket personality. I even felt super dirty when they sent me across the street to another Dr. Kim (they are related and have about the same depth of personality) for another procedure. Anyways, the staff was not too friendly, but ghetto comical. I just remember sitting in the waiting room, on my second visit, wanting to warn the others to run. Too late for me.
The absolute best part was listening to one of the dental assistants, speaking in Spanish, openly bitching about her man to a coworker after a breakup. Totally ghetto, but funny in an East Los, kinda way. So much potential, but absolutely, not happening. RUN!!!

Dr. Wyndhamsmith saw my wife and made her cry. He was very rude to her. She told him that she had to have some of the work done there for insurance reasons but would have implants done elsewhere where she can get a discount. He then REFUSED TO DO ANY WORK UNLESS SHE LET HIM DO THE IMPLANTS.
My wife had to get a babysitter for the appointment. She was extremely upset.
I called to complain and was told (condescendingly) that the dentist was «not allowed» to only do some of the work. Why not? The ADA. The ADA is an organization; what specifically prevents the dentist from doing some of the work only? The ADA is the American Dental Association. I know that, but are you saying there is a law that prohibits the dentist from doing only some of the work. Yes. Well, I’m a lawyer and I can tell you you are wrong.
I am going to call the insurance company to see what they think about this. I can’t believe that refusing to provide services unless the patient gets additional work done is proper.
I agree with the other reviewer who suspects this operation is a scam. I have the same suspicions.
