Andy D Kau, DDS

I was referred to Dr. Andy by a friend who’s a Pasadena native. Although I’ve lived in Pasadena for a long time, I’ve never found a really good dentist, let alone one who took my insurance. I had been using a DDS in Downtown LA who retired, so I needed a new dentist right away. They got me in for an appointment no problem. The staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. Kau is up on the latest dental tech and care, but has a great chair side manner and really tells you what’s going on in an easy to understand and efficient manner. Dr. Kau is awesome!

I have to praise Dr. Kau once again! Earlier this year, I had to have several fillings done and I saw his new associate, Dr. Laura Chew. She is wonderful and she did an amazing job with my teeth. Now, FYI, Delta Dental is being real stingy with new providers, which means, that the patient has to put a hell of a lot more leg work into ensuring that our dentists get paid. Long story short, Delta decided that since the Dr. Chew wasn’t part of the in-​newtork folks (since she is new) they charged me out of network prices, which is WRONG! Well, I went into the office and Dr. Kau and the staff are some of them most amazing people I have met. Not only did they fix snafu with the insurance, they assured me that they will continue to work with my since Delta is being a giant pain in the ass about new providers and such. Thanks Dr. Kau and staff for holding my hand through this process and for the excellent care! If you haven’t found a dentist yet, and are looking for quality work and customer service, this is the practice for you!

I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Kau’s practice, having moved to the Los Angeles area from the East Coast in June. Our family had made a couple moves in the past two years, the first one taking me away from my trusted dentist of 15+ years (who was literally like family to us). After this I had a couple bad experiences before meeting Dr. Kau’s team. I came to them the first time with an urgent need for help (issues with two of my wisdom teeth), and was honestly scared of having another bad experience. This probably showed, as Dr. Kau sat down with me for over half an hour, examined the issue, put me at ease, and got me set up to see an excellent oral surgeon the same week. I’ve since gone back to Dr. Kau for my first cleaning and was so impressed by not only the expertise of the entire staff (very detail-​oriented and gentle cleaning by Elissa and highly professional front-​desk team), but also how down-​to-​earth and personable they are all were, treating me as though I were a family member. After I had my wisdom teeth removed, my Invisalign retainer made by my old trusted family dentist no longer fit, and Andrea came in a bit early THE VERY NEXT DAY to fix it for me as a personal favor. So I have she and Dr. Kau to thank that at the end of the day my teeth are healthy AND now perfectly straight again! Seriously, who does that these days? My personal experience has been that it is difficult to find a dentist who is both up-​to-​date on the latest treatments and technologies AND who you can trust, i.e. who has a genuine interest in each individual patient’s needs. (Full disclosure, my husband’s father was the dentist in his hometown, so we have higher standards than most!) I know I have found my family dentist for the next 15+ years and will be recommending Dr. Kau’s practice to friends and family.

Without a doubt the best dentist I ever had. Andy Kau is a fantastic dentist with a great team around him. I had crazy fears of dentists and after seeing him once all my anxiety was gone. I highly recommend him to anyone and especially those with a fear of dentistry. No pushy up selling and the costs have been very reasonable so far.

I was looking for a new dentist in the area I moved to and as well as someone covered under Delta Dental as provided by my workplace. Found Dr. Kau through Unilocal and just had my first initial visit.
Plenty of parking at the office. The staff and Dr. Kau are very thorough. They informed me that my prior dentists had been doing my teeth cleaning wrong by only using the ultrasonic device. Interesting to note and makes some sense that one would miss stuff when the device is doing all the work.
Only bad thing is that I had to plan 1.5 months in advance. New patient visits are scheduled for 1.5 hrs so they have to be booked far in advance. Also note that the initial new patient visit is only for initial check-​up and asking questions. Thankfully, I had no issues and was able to get my teeth cleaned as well during the initial visit. Otherwise, I would have had to schedule another session for teeth cleaning.

Dr Kau is absolutely awesome! Before him, I hadn’t gone to a dentist for ~10 years. Needless to say I was super nervous about the visit. I picked Dr Kau’s office because they had such high praised reviews and they also take my insurance. I’m so glad I did! He was efficient but still personable. My nervousness quickly went away and as many said, it felt right at home there. I ended up having to have several cavities filled, and Dr Kau did them quickly with absolutely no pain and no hassle. I’ve been going there ever since. I also love my hygienist Susie. All my cleanings were quick and pain free but thorough, and she treats you like a buddy, asking about your day and your life. As an extra cherry on top: super high tech equipments, free 3D imaging on your first visit, and you always walk out with a new toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a healthy clean shiny set of teeth!

Dr. Kau and the staff are the best. My 12 year old daughter and I were there today for the first time and can’t complain of anything. I totally recommend him :) he takes all the time to explain everything to you.

Had a great experience with dr kau. Called to see if they could fit me in for swollen gums and they were able to the same day.
The visit was outstanding. The entire visit was quick and timely. Dr kau was able to diagnose the problem quickly.
Dr kau and his employees were very attentive, pleasant, and easy going. Dr kau himself is down to earth and easy to talk with. It is as if you are speaking with a good friend.
I definitely recommend and will be making dr kau my new dentist.

Good dentist but very expensive

I had an amazing experience. Dr. Andy Kau really took the time to explain every single detail and answered all of my questions. The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Highly recommend this place. It has been the best experience I’ve had so far.

I usually feel intimidated going some kind of clinic or hospital, but all the staffs in Dr. Kau’s place are super nice. They melted down my nervousness. I had Dr. Chew for my teeth exam, she was very sweet, concerning and professional. I am visiting there again for other appointment. Strongly recommend :9

Dr Kau and his staff are amazing. He was very honest, professional and patient. He explained everything to me and was very thorough. He never rushed me through my appointment or through any of my questions. I am excited to come back again!

I have had dentist related anxiety ever since I was a child. I avoided going as an adult. I was referred to Dr Kao’s by my nutritionist and that completely solved my «afraid of dentist» problem.
Pros:
* Everyone at the office is SUPER friendly and nice (They treat you with respect and you feel like everyone sincerely cares about your well-​being.)
* Dr. Kao is extremely honest and transparent with the procedures (he laid out several options for a complicated thing I needed to have done. He also explained everything in detail so I knew what was happening and when).
* Dr. Kao is very efficient. I think he is a superb dentist that helped me save a couple of teeth.
* THEY TAKE INSURANCE YAY!
Tips:
* Because they are amazing, they are always booked. Make sure you call ahead.
By the way, I am never going anywhere else to get my teeth looked at. So, there we have it. I have finally found my dental home in Los Angeles! Yay!

I refused to believe that a dentist actually deserved this much praise… but he and the staff really DO deserve the highest praise.
I imagine this is what doctors and dentists were like many decades ago — when they actually cared about their patients and appreciated their business. Hi-​five to Andy and staff.

Was living in Pasadena for a year and he and his team of staff have been excellent in terms of service, professionalism and competence. His strong foundation in knowledge, his friendly personality and the tram’s efficiency are inspiring. Such excellence is reflected at all levels of staff, making my dental experience so much more bearable. If I had not move away he would still be my dentist. My current dentist pales in comparison to him.

I brought my 86 year old Mom here for a denture consultation. I was in the room with her and Dr. Kau, and he was extremely clear in his explanation of her options (some of which included recommendations for dentists not in his practice). Even my Mom understood clearly all the ins and outs of the different procedures available. I’ve never come into contact with any Dr. with this much professionalism combined with personableness. Seriously inspires confidence.
Not only was my Mom sold, but I am switching dentists to him as soon as possible.

I had an A+ experience at this dentist. I don’t have a phobia of dentists, but I also don’t look forward to going. (Who does?) From start to finish, this office did everything right.
I had put off going to the dentist for over 2 years since I didn’t have dental insurance, and I didn’t care for the last dentist I saw who racked up a $ 7,000 estimate for «suggested services» like a custom bite guard, teeth whitening, and a deep cleaning (that Dr. Kau’s hygienist actually said that in no way I would need, given the good condition of my teeth). So, I kept putting off visiting the dentist. But, being pregnant and then having some slight tooth pain in one of my wisdom teeth (which actually went away after less than a day), I felt like I should be seen before the baby arrives and complicates my scheduling options. Everything went smoothly and I was so happy with my experience here. I feel like they take a conservative approach to dental work and don’t pressure you into getting a bunch of unnecessary procedures done.
Everyone from the receptionist to the hygienist was super friendly and helpful. The cleaning was thorough but not painful. Dr. Kau has a great way about him, explains everything really well, and you never feel rushed. He was respectful of my decision not to get X-​rays performed until after the baby is born.
The parking lot does have limited spaces, but there is fairly ample street parking on El Molino, provided that your appointment doesn’t run over 2 hours.

Andy Kau is hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. His staff was incredibly friendly and Andy is a cool dude and very very professional. I would give them all 10 stars if I could. High quality service at a very fair price.
I will be back in march for another cleaning.

I never liked to visit the dentist, Until Now.
I broke my tooth and decided it was time finally go to the dentist. I searched on
to find a dentist that was well recommended in the Pasadena Area. I reviewed each dentist I found, read the good along with the bad reviews. I wanted to make sure I found a good dentist after all we only have one set of teeth!
I notice Dr Kau had 5 stars and everyone seems to really like his dental work.
I called and made an emergency appointment and visit his office, I let the dentist inspect my broken tooth. Seems I had more than one cavity that needed attention.

The Dr. Removed the decay took impressions and put a temporary in until the lab sends the new crowns I will be needing. It was a 2 hour simple procedure.
Dr. Kau hand is extremely light; meaning I did not feel any injections nor did I feel any pain when he was doing the work.
The staff is extremely pleasant, smart and they’re there to help out the Dr. with what ever he needs to make your visit smooth.
The entire team is devoted to making sure you get the best dental care and service possible. They respect your time and make sure you are in and out according to your appointment. He did not rush any of the work and made sure that the temporary felt right before I left the office. He called the next day with a follow up phone call to double check if I was ok for the weekend with the temporarily filling, because I grind the crap out of my teeth at night…
I highly recommend Dr Kau, if you are looking for the best dentist in the Pasadena Area; you have found him. He has all the latest technology to determine what you need to have done with your teeth.
