Specialties
The Wazu is truly one of the best sandwich shops you will ever experience. That is why it is called The Great Wazu. The food is fresh and delicious. If you want a really great sandwich, soup or salad, come to the Wazu.
The Great Wazu is a family run business. We take a great deal of pride in our food and the satisfaction of our customers. We have been serving great food since our first shop opened in East Hanover in 1981.
Everything is prepared fresh to order. Our sandwiches, soups and salads are made with the finest quality ingredients. We take great care in the preparation of all our menu items and take pride in the quality and freshness of everything we sell. Unlike some fast food sub shops, we use premium quality cold cuts, breads and condiments. Our portions are generous and our prices are reasonable.
History
Established in 1981.
Hi my name is Joe and I own this crazy place. My brother and I had been working for many years at a place called «Long Johns Sub Shop» in Morristown, NJ. You may not know it but the «submarine» sandwich or Sub originated in Atlantic City, NJ, at a place called «Whitehouse Subs», in 1946. It still thrives today. Long Johns is actually the second oldest sub shop on the planet opening in 1948. Long Johns actually invented the assembly line method of sandwich production, a method I’m sure you will see that we have perfected. The story behind our cool name goes like this. It was the summer of 1981. We found a location for our first shop and had just finished talking my dad into second mortgaging the house so we could open. There was a small family gathering that day. Tony & I were in the kitchen brainstorming on a name for our shop, when someone in the den, said to someone else, in an unsavory manner «@#%ing up your WAZU. We looked at each other, smiled, and the rest is history
Meet the Business Owner
Joe D.
Business Owner
I am 53 years old. I like riding my bicycle very much when the weather is nice. I love to watch my kids play sports. My biggest passion is definitely food. I’ve been in the business since I was 14. In the last 39 years I’ve worked in nearly all phases of the food industry. I do still LOVE making sandwiches. Lunch rush to me & my crew is just a blast. We all love the action. In high gear our assembly line pounds out just over 4 sandwiches per minuet. I get to spend about 15 seconds with each customer. I always say thanks for coming in and I always mean it.
