The first time I had the pleasure to eat here I was still in high school and I was blown away with how great and fresh everything was! I then forgot about this place for about 6 years until one day I googled «restaurants in Parksville» hoping to find it. I was so happy that I learned they were still open! I told my fiancé (also another food lover) that I was to take him and it would be my treat! We went on a Friday night and there were only 2 other tables but we decided to sit upstairs. The whole place just has such a great feel. Rustic and artsy! We were greeted promptly by a very friendly waitress, who was knowledgeable on the menu. Their beer and wine list had lots to choose from and they had a great selection! I ordered their homemade veggie burger and my fiancé had their special for the night which was Thai Pork. Both were absolutely amazing! We skipped on dessert even though everything sounded delicious. Our visit was 100%! We will definitely be back and thank you to the staff who made our visit a memorable one.

Quit Stalin! This charming Soviet-​themed restaurant by the side of a babbling brook is one of my favorite places in NY state. Try the «Putin’s Tears», a tiny appetizer of cured fish, rye bread and a shot of vodka. Their dumplings (pellmell) will have you humming «Georgia on My Mind» all the way back to your dacha.

Have you ever yearned for a bygone era? Wouldn’t you just love to step back in time; step back… perhaps to a time where innocence was not an inconvenience?
Tonight Pilar and I stepped back to what seemed like a wartime café in the Europe of the late 30’s and early to mid-40’s. Louis Armstrong playing in the background while old black and white love stories played out on the TV screen tucked in a corner of the room. Granted Audrey Hepburn was more of the 50’s and 60’s yet the effect remained the same. I felt almost naked without my Navy dress blues on.
The walls feature work by local artists and photographers.
We decided to dine at the The Rolling River Café — Gallery — Inn tonight and what a pleasant surprise it was! This place is so teeny, we’d driven past it a number of times over the years and thought nothing of it as it looks more like a bar for ruffians from the outside.
Tonight we stopped in and stepped into history so it seemed. Both stories reeked of wartime Europe from the warm fire burning brightly in the stove downstairs keeping everyone comfortable, to the dark yet forebodingly inviting solid and polished staircase leading to the second floor dining room, to the teeny Parisian tables and chairs… the only thing missing was the warm and inviting smokiness and odor of a good pipe full of tobacco leaf.
First thing we noticed when we stepped in was the tiny front counter which also serves as the bar, which by the way features quite a number of European Beers, and the lovely and mysterious Iliana standing behind it, greeting us with a smile. She offered a table downstairs or upstairs and we chose upstairs to avoid the inherent noise associated with the bar section of any restaurant, though as time passed we came to realize that did not apply here.
As you can see by the imagery provided with this review, the place, though very small, exudes comfort; it’s a place where you can sit at a table and chat over a good bottle of wine or a tall glass of European Pilsener for hours and as long as they kept the drink, the bread and the cheese coming, you’d lose yourself in time.
So we sat down at a snug small, yet surprisingly comfortable, table for two upstairs and Iliana brought our menus and a little plate with pieces of bread along with a candle heated herbed olive oil dip, with whole olives included. They were yummy. I love olives, yes I do. That didn’t last too long. Pilar order a German Pilsener and I stuck with a liter of San Pellegrino.
Though the place bills itself as international, the menu seems to lean toward Eastern European and Russian cuisine. The chef, Rob, is a self made culinary artist. Brought much of his kitchen from the old country so to say.
We immediately noticed at the top of the menu that the Rolling River Café sources from a very many local farms and dairies. In fact, we started our gastronomic adventure into the unknown with a plate of cheeses exclusively from the local Tonjes farm near Callicoon I think it is. We have stopped there many times though not recently and purchased fresh cheeses from the owners. The plate included Gouda, Goat Feta with smoked Pine Nuts, and a Tonjes special they call «Cow Hard» Cheese. There was another cheese but I cannot recall the name. There was one extra cheese there from Armenia — a sheep milk cheese called Manouri, and it too was delicious. The cheese plate was served with soft and hard breads as well as a fresh made apple sauce and a baked pear. It was all very yummy!
For our main courses, Pilar chose the Chorizo with dill herbed Fried Potatoes in rendered Duck Fat, Shallots, Garlic and Rosemary topped with a fried egg and I went decidedly Russian with the Pelmeni plate MINUS the fried mushrooms and onions featured on the menu as Iliana told us that as a child she always had it only with the Sour Cream, therefore the onions and mushrooms were a typical Americanization of a purely ethnic plate. Pelmeni are Russian Dumplings made with a choice of meat. I chose beef. This was quite yummy as was the Chorizo (I swiped a couple of pieces from Pilar’s plate!) Next time we come, I think I will go for the Kinkali. Pilar already has her eye on one of the Red Caviar dishes, not on the table menu, but definitely available on the specials of the day menu. Check the image of the menu to find out what it is. Our side dishes were a Fried Cauliflower with smoked pine nut sauce and a Sautéed Kale with a pumpkin curry sauce, both being fantastically delicious! Mind you I hate curry and the sight of Cauliflower makes me gag as it looks like a brain, but these dishes were spectacularly flavorful and the Cauliflower did NOT taste like what I can only imagine brain tastes like.
Dessert was the topping on a fabulous evening of new flavors and now new friends. Pilar had a freshly made Crème Brule and I had a Baked Apple Pastry with Cocoa Sprinkled Whipped Cream, both of which the chef made in his small, yet glorious kitchen!

If you want your tastebuds to experience NIRVANA, then run don’t walk to this little Oasis in Sullivan County. We have a business in the county and it’s hard for us to get out but we revisited Rolling River last night and it was pure BLISS! The food choices are so eclectic with so much love and care put into everything they prepare and the authenticity of the vibe there is so comforting and serene. Miriam is off the charts friendly with a wicked sense of humor and her dad is the chef along with Kim and the great staff, all are magical. The dumplings are a gift from God and you will feel yourself lift off your seat a little higher and higher with every bite. Don’t wait, go and have yourself a delicious meal at Rolling River. It’s not to be missed.

I came here for lunch
Food was good, but you are mainly coming here for the place. Beatiful, next to the river. A great place to stop by before continuing your trip.
I had the baba ganoush and the lux crêpe there were both ok and so was the veggie burger.

Great spot for lunch. We had burgers and beers by the river on our way to NYC. It’s a cool, rustic, spot and has a great farm to table menu. Check it out.

Physical atmosphere is lovely, however, there are not enough servers, they are overwhelmed and rushing all about. Its hard to get their attention they seem to focus on the local regulars more and ignore rest.
Had to wave them down. Server did not know the menu specials and my dish was not what she described. The meat was very tough. Wine okay

We were on our way up to Cornell and got hungry and happened upon this little restaurant. I was a bit skeptical due the remote and location and the fact that not too far away there were several abandoned and destroyed buildings. Nevertheless, we decided to give it a try. I’m so happy we did.
We opted to sit outside and made our way down stone steps and over branching roots and found a quaint table near the river edge.
For starters I had the Curry squash and pork soup, which was quite unique and tasty. I then had the Russian dumplings (Russian sour cream sauce), my daughter had the Chorizo and potatoes with egg while my husband enjoyed the Avocado bacon and cheese panini. The food was very different and I’m very glad we stopped by.
The waitstaff was great and I enjoyed the idea of eating by the water, tucked away in a fairy-​esque garden.
If you happen to be in the area and looking for a place to stop for lunch, pop in and enjoy a peaceful and delicious meal.

The food was OK, but certainly not good enough to make up for the deplorable service we experienced.
We waited over an hour for just our salads and another hour for the main entrees. It made us late for the show we had plans for.
One of our party had a simple request, which they got wrong and then had an attitude about it with us.
All in all, a most unpleasant experience.

This place was a total surprise. Was looking for something to eat with a friend in the dead of winter. Most of Parksville seems closed down except this one little café inside a house. Walked in expecting something pretty scary but instead had an amazing meal. Friendly conversation with the staff, and a nice pint of beer from the local Catskill Brewery. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Even better in the summer or spring when you can sit along the river.

You just can’t beat the view and serenity of the river as you sit under the trees, enjoying your meal. The menu had a couple of vegan options and I chose the organic veggie burger with pear chutney and avocado. It was delicious! My husband also enjoyed his burger.
The staff was kind and accommodating; they allowed my dog to sit with us in the outdoor dining area and brought her a bowl of water.
Definitely recommended for a healthy bite and relaxing dining experience.

Beautifully fresh, tasty, beautifully prepared organic veggie burger with fresh local vegetables — sitting by a babbling brook (or rushing river). Friendly, peaceful, refreshing, high quality. The very best.

If you’re looking for a unique restaurant (with incredible food) experience, please go to this place. It’s basically a two story home that was converted into a restaurant. If you go here, expect an up-​close-​and-​personal dining time. Depending on where you sit, you can look into the kitchen and see some serious artists at work. The drinks and food were simply delicious. The staff was very attentive and nice. This place is a little gem in the middle of the woods that can be a great place to meet friends for dinner, or a great place for a romantic dinner. I’m not sure what else to say other than I truly enjoyed myself here last night and CANNOT wait to bring my wife here. What a fantastic find!

Started with oysters two ways; baked and raw, a gin and tonic and mulled wine. Full rack of lamb with chile blue cheese sauce and chorizo and potatoes with a side of Latkes and veg platter all mouth watering and cooked to perfection. Latkes were crispy clouds and the lamb melted on our tongues. We finished with the house made crème brûlée and cheesecake, and wow, we made the right choice. Lovely staff and atmosphere, definitely a new regular stop on trip upstate.

We found this on Unilocal and went in, hoping the reviews were true. OMG, the food was delicious, hot, fresh, beautifully served. The atmosphere was friendly and the waitress was super. We were able to sit outside near the river and enjoy some late September sun. We had to try the dessert, the meal was so good. Ice cream and a crêpe, superb.
We will find reasons to travel on 17 just to be able to stop here for a meal.

I’ve been here a few times and it never ceases to disappoint. This past weekend, I was completely blown away by the perfection of the food, service, drink selection, atmosphere, everything! Had all the craziest items on the menu — boiled tongue, Siberian beef and pork dumplings, chorizo hash, red herring, and fois gras. Every bite was amazing. The server suggested a beer — Baltika 9 to pair with the hash and he was dead right. Could not have had a nicer afternoon.

I had to give this place 5 stars, because it truly was as good as it gets.
This place is a little out of the way, but completely worth the trip.
I went with a party of 8, so i got to try a lot of things on the menu. One thing was better than the next. I had the rack of lamb and it was flavored and cooked to perfection.
The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The environment is extremely welcoming.
In fact, i ended up singing with the sous chef who also happened to make the most delectable cheese cake i have ever had. (Amazing crust!!)
Most of there menu is locally sourced, including the bourbon! We all ended up walking out with a bottle. Hope we didn’t clean them out :)
The menu is not large, but it is diverse and offers substitutions for vegetarians. But come on now, you don’t need a big menu when everything on the menu is amazing.

This café is tucked away but worth the discovery. The food is locally sourced and always fresh. I stop here whenever I am traveling anywhere near them. I have eaten here 3 times. It is always spot on. The staff is friendly and well trained. You simply can’t go wrong.

I hesitate to write this because it’s small and so perfect and I kind of don’t want too many people to find out about it. But it deserves a great review so here goes.
It’s easy to miss… in a very small house next to the inn. Only three small tables downstairs and a few upstairs and a few outside by the river. So quaint in a totally un-​commercial kind of way.
The food was amazing!!! We spent well over twice as much at 1906 in Callicoon last night and this was ten times better. The dumplings were out of this world… we kept asking if there was some little Russian grandmother in the kitchen — seriously it all tasted like the best home cooked dumplings you’ve ever had. We had potato dumplings and these other little ones (see photo) that had meat and chicken in them. Couldn’t eat them fast enough. We ordered borscht and it was by far the BEST borscht I have ever eaten — the service size was huge and the taste was lip smacking good. I never tasted it like this… I think there was clove in it. If it’s on the menu I recommend it! Also worth noting was the «Rob’s Puff» which was a caramel pair delicacy in pastry puff. Outstanding. So worth the calories.
The waitress we had was on the job only four days but I never would have known. She was great. The chef came out to explain some of the dishes to us. Great food, great experience. Great prices. Please don’t go there…

This is a review for the Inn only: Super-excellent-clean-comfortable-«great energy» as many guests have written in the guest book. The inn has a lovely river /​stream in the back yard and there is lawn furniture available as well as a back porch to enjoy the outdoors. Kim, the innkeeper, is approachable and professional. I am totally looking forward to future stays at the Rolling River Inn.
