Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft

This Joann’s is bigger than the Ramsey store but for some odd reason I never remember this store exists. As mentioned the parking lot doesn’t have the best but I luckily found a space quickly. I did not see anyone in customer service or any sales people on the floor. I generally run across one or two friendly staff asking me if I need help when shopping at the Ramsey store. I went to shopping to buy yarn. I found that section well stocked, organized nicely and plenty of sales labeled. So I bought lots of yarn Caron, Lion, and Red Heart yarn for the baby gifts I make. The check our process was quick and pleasant. I grabbed a flyer for the list and was pleasantly surprised over the variety offered. Overall I had a good shopping experience but not great. I can easily see how this store can cause lots frustrations but I also never see floor staff at Michael’s either. Joann’s had some really good yarn sales.

This place used to be awesome. Maybe two years ago I would have NEVER written a poor review of this JoAnns. But after my experiences the last four times I will never shop at this location again. Each time I have gone recently if I’ve needed help with someone no one is around to help, I have to spend 10 minutes just trying to find someone, and then when I ask them a question about where something is located they either don’t know, or they direct me to the wrong part of the store.
I spent nearly 45 minutes trying to track down an sewing machine oil that I had checked online and known that it was in stock. After being told three different places to look by three different people, I was directed to a display for a separate partner company who is not part of JoAnns proper they just come and advertise their products occasionally and even they didn’t have what i was looking for. After all of that I ended up leaving the store empty handed, after being told they «never carry it.» (which makes no sense to me to have it listed in your inventory online then… but hey, what do I know?)
The last straw was when I went there yesterday. After finding an item and wanting to check the color (it was Offray ribbon and it doesn’t show the color unless it’s scanned) I went to ask for assistance at the customer service desk. I stood there for ten minutes minimum, not a soul in sight. One or two eventually walked past me but didn’t stop to ask if I needed help. There was one lone cashier standing at the check out counter staring at me and she didn’t try to call anyone after she saw me waiting there for a while.
Then «help» arrived. A JoAnn’s employee showed up, scowling at me like I was a waste of her time, VERY slowly walked over to the computer behind the guest services desk and stood there. Typing on the computer… I was standing right in front of her, she didn’t say, «can i help you?» Or, «is there anything you need?» finally she lets out a BIG SIGH and goes, «need something?»
(Well, gosh golly no! I’ve been standing here for almost 15 minutes now, surely I DON’T need any help. Don’t you think that if I could have avoided dealing with your lousy attitude I would have done so?)
I simply replied and asked her to scan the ribbon, it was the wrong color, I left, and I’m not going back. Waste of my time and patience. Save yourself a headache. If you need to go to JoAnns, go to the smaller one Ramsey’s Interstate Shopping Mall, they are much more accommodating, nice and knowledgeable. I went there after work and they had me in and out in 5 minutes no problem AND they found me the sewing machine oil that I had been looking for on my previous trip.

Terrible quality items, overpriced, and bad customer service. I bought a organizer for my 9year old daughter and day after realized top cover kept opening due to bad manufacturing. I didn’t have my cash receipt and any packaging since I didn’t think we’d have problem with merchandise bought from Joann. I went back with my kids to return for a replacement item, but they refuse to take it back sighting I didn’t have receipt or packaging. She gave me a very unconvincing excuse that Banana Republic won’t even take back items without tag. Are you kidding me?
They sold me junk and now they won’t even replace it. Even my son couldn’t understand saying «there are exact item on the shelf. Why can’t they just use that to scan it in?»
I won’t be shopping at this place anymore. I can’t afford to buy junk at full price and treated with bad customer service.

I like JoAnn Fabrics. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. You can’t beat the array of cotton fabrics that JoAnn offers. In fact, their selection of cotton fabrics is better than many expensive store (read Mood) in the city.
JoAnn does not have designer or high end fabrics but their selection of fabrics, besides cotton, is very good. They also have a variety of sewing products.
Michael’s now has a store in the city. Let’s hope that Jo Ann can make an entrance.

What horrific service and the sign on the door states that they offer classes… On how to be rude? The lady at the fabric section just pointed to where I should go. Nothing more. Which made sense as to why she had her name tag tucked I. Her cardigan. Now no one could call and allow someone to know who have then the bad service.
Never again.

Employees here were very helpful and knowledgable. Both people I spoke with were able to quickly point me in the right direction and I found what I needed quickly. They were pretty busy when I went (around lunch time), and a line formed quickly so perhaps they need a few more employees. It was also slightly hard to find someone to help me, but as I said, once I did, they were very helpful. They do offer some classes (cake decorating, various crafts, painting) as well as activities for kids on the weekends. My only gripe was that they seemed slightly understaffed but otherwise, a great store.

Smelled the pumpkin candles before I even walked in.

Friend bought a canvas to paint and I bought some fabric to throw over an old armchair. Took a couple of months to get the pumpkin candle smell out of it.
That parking lot is the Bermuda Triangle. And it’s not your vacation Bermuda – cars disappear without a trace Flight 19 style. I did find mine, tho. Some soccer mom tried to back over me (probably Unilocaling&driving), but I ran away.

Best fabrics place in the area, once you brave the hellacious traffic and parking. I love their huge selection of notions, fabrics, and patterns. Their sales on patterns are not to be ignored.

Great big arts and craft store. With a great variety of fabric.
My mom comes here all the time. She’s a regular customer. Today my mom and I went here to return a few ribbons, it was no problem.
Last year in September my mom paid for a cake decorating class. She went to Joann’s and the teacher never shower up. Today she asked about that class, and they told us to go to customer service. The supervisor named Daphne came over to us. She already came off with an attitude. As we waited, for about 20 minutes she told us we could not get a refund. My mother didn’t want a refund, she just wanted to put the money towards taking another class. As my mom proceeded to ask a simple question «do I have to take a prior class for the cake decorating class?» The manager came back with a smart answer telling my mom, «there is no number before 1, is there? No? Then no.» This manager had made my mom so upset, my mom asked to speak with the store supervisor. As we walked out, I said God Bless to her.
We won’t be coming back to this store location ever again.
If you’re a manager, that is no way to treat customers.

I’m sorry I don’t agree with all the rave reviews of this store. I agree that it is very large and there is a selection of crafting supplies which you will pay full retail for if you do not have a coupon.
But my review is for «fabrics» which this store has in its name. Several times I have come to this store seeking upholstery fabric for chair seats but I have to leave empty handed because the vast majority of the fabrics are all marked that they could bleed onto other fabrics if used for seating. HELLO. I checked into this with the sales staff and they confirmed that you could walk away with the fabric stained onto your skirt or trousers after sitting on the fabric.
Well the positive is that you are at least warned — IF you take the time to inquire into the markings on the labels. But if you are seeking fabric to actually use, this is not the place.
I have to let you at least know that the Ramsey Discount Fabric Warehouse is everything this store is not if you are purchasing fabrics. That warehouse has my highest recommendation for selection and price.

Very huge collection, but making sure you have coupon on hand. Other wise if those material are in full price, can be very pricey. For craft item, you can use michael’s store coupon. The fabrics, make sure you got the coupon from the joann website, newspaper or on their mailing list.
the people who works there are very nice and helpful. make sure checking behind the the cutting counter if you can’t find your mateial. And make sure you take the numbers before you’re waiting for your material to be cut.
the store is very huge, after you enter the door, right side is the fabrics and left side is craft. So make sure where you’re going, don’t get lost!
If you want to take classes here, I don’t recommend it. The schedule was very mess up, they are not so well of making communication with the store, instructor and students. The instructors are hit or miss type of professional. So if you really wants class? Youtube is better than it.

The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because there are times I’ve shlepped up to the store only to find they are out of stock on the thing I traveled there for. This happened once when I went shopping for patterns, another time for buttons, and another time for fabric. The best thing about Jo-​Ann is the coupons. There is no excuse for going there without at least one.

Went to Joann’s yesterday to pick up a few things for a craft project. Store was clean and organized but it was a week day and the kids were still in school.
I just found one thing puzzling, It was me and one other person waiting to pay. I was told that I could not stand at the counter — «the line is over there» I had to walk through a maze (with no one on line) and wait 20 yard away for the last person to be checked out until the «sarge at arms» called me up and then had to walk through the empty maze again, squeeze past someone at the other side of the register and go back to the place I was standing. Just STUPID.
It seems that the rules of waiting in line should be slightly relaxed when there is no one on line? Ya think?

Good middle range crafting supplies. They have a new iphone app where you can get all the available coupons!

OH MY GOD this store is huge! They sell everything you need for all sorts of crafting including fabric, sewing supplies, sewing machines, scrapbook stuff, painting/​art supplies, household décor, frames etc. Checkout is quick. Overall this is a good resource for crafting needs.

A lot closer to me than the one near the NYS border. Wish that the outdoor sign was lit up. Was somewhat hard to find it in the eveningtime.
