Description

Specialties

Boomstra Elite Short Track (B.E.S.T.) is a program of DeMorra Speedskating, a 501©(3) nonprofit and California public benefit corporation established for the purpose of promoting the amateur Olympic sport of short track speedskating and making it more accessible to the general public. Our goal is to achieve a broad base of participants, and to support every skater with the highest quality of coaching, integrity, motivational encouragement, and customer care. We provide year-round weekly training of the highest caliber for participants of all skill levels and all ages, young and old alike.

A Note About Our Schedule

We have early morning hours for on-ice training, and these sessions take place at The Rinks Lakewood Ice, 3975 Pixie Lane, Lakewood CA from 6 to 8AM every weekday morning EXCEPT for Tuesday. Often there is focused dryland training afterward. Be prepared to pay for this training in cash.

All sessions at Paramount Iceland can be paid for by cash, check, or credit card. As of 3÷15÷15, the training schedule at Paramount Iceland is TBA.

Mission and Vision

DeMorra is a charitable sports training organization dedicated to making speedskating available and affordable in the Greater Los Angeles Area as an attractive, year-round, all-ages sports endeavor, serving the novice and the Olympian alike with professionalism and a welcoming spirit.

History

Established in 2012.

Bearing the name of a speedskating club that originated in Los Angeles in 1938 can solicit expectations that the «new DeMorra» would somehow seek to be comparable to the original DeMorra. As the «new DeMorra», we hereby acknowledge the vision, courage, commitment, stamina, resolve, sacrifices, hard work, and passion for speedskating that hundreds of skaters had who were part of the historic and champion-producing DeMorra Speedskating Club.

As the new DeMorra, operating as Boomstra Elite Short Track (BEST), we seek a bright, sustainable future for speedskating in Los Angeles. The advent of the 21st Century has brought with it a high and ever increasing cost for ice. This has certainly affected the viability of not only DeMorra but probably all urban speedskating organizations in America. With incorporation and tax-exemption fully in hand as of 2012, we have a framework in which to build a growing skating program that is focused on excellence with a discernable touch of hospitality.

Meet the Manager

Wilma B.

Manager

Wilma Boomstra is not only our Head Coach, but she was our inspiration for launching BEST in 2012. Her unique and inviting style of coaching has drawn skaters from not only around the USA, but the entire world, to have the privilege of training with her. Today she is our inspiration for building the best speedskating program we can imagine, so that ever more people can discover the multiple benefits of this all-ages, zero-impact sport.

Wilma hails from the Netherlands, where she certified to be a professional coach. She could have gone into any sport, but she chose speedskating, the Dutch national sport and past-time. In her years as a coach in the LA area, she has produced an impressive list of Olympians and World Team members, for example, 2-time Olympian JR Celski and some of his team mates. Having trained a good number of skaters to excel in short track, today many of the coaches in LA are skaters who formerly trained under her. Her legacy is thus multiplied and passed on.
